The End Of United States EV Tax Credits and the Future of EVs
Переглядів 4,2 тис.Місяць тому
EV Federal tax credits will probably be repealed. The times, they are a changing...particularly after January 20, 2025. What impact will this have on the price of new and used EVs and future infrastructure development? Will this bring about the end to EV production and development? Principal Bob breaks out the crystal ball and tells all! Note: Of course my crystal ball is cloudy and predictions...
Lease or Buy a 24 IONIQ 5 Now or Wait Three Months For the 25 Native NACS Update?

The answer is...it depends! There are a lot of advantages to purchasing a 24 including the fact they have been produced for years and are solid cars that have won car of the year in multiple magazines. On the other hand, the new 25's have many improvements, including a rear windshield wiper. I try to look at the two sides of the coin and tell you what I would do in this situation, but my soluti...

This video shows you how you use the self park system on the IONIQ 5 Limited. I demonstrate what buttons to push and when to make the IONIQ 5 back into a standard parking spot, or how to move the car forwards or backwards in tight parking situations. I have shown this system to dozens of people and it is just about bullet proof.
Foundation Cyberbeast VS My Ford Lightning

Would I trade in my Lighting for a Cyberbeast? I was fully prepared to dislike the Cybertruck, but I was pleasantly surprised by its capabilities as a real truck. The Tesla is a real showstopper and has more bed space and load capacity than the Lighting. Despite the early productions issues, it might be the best Tesla ever.
Mini Cooper SE is the Best Quality, Small EV, for the Money.

In Colorado, people are getting $17,000 dollars in credits when they lease certain 24 Mini Cooper SE electric cars. I love the mini and it is the best value on wheels for a second car or a short trip specialist! I do not work for Mini or BMW, but of the eleven electric cars I have owned the Mini is still the KING of most fun for the least amount of money.
The Refreshed 25 IONIQ 5 Must Steal These Features From the New 24 Kona EV!

After spending two weeks in an New 24 KONA EV I really want to see Hyundai put many of the features in the refresh of the IONIQ 5. Hyundai addressed many of my pet peeves about my Ioniq 5 in the Kona, and to be frank, I hope some of them can be added to my 23 IONIQ 5 via a software update. Also, the Kona is a terrific little EV for the money.

VW Update On Production and Why The Pro Plus May Not Be Worth The Wait!
This political pandering is a turn off
Click and Clack, I love it!
Glad to see you starting a podcast.
Good for you two! Forgive the brag, but I've got you beat. Been driving on electricity for 14 years now. All powered with sunshine from my roof!
You Da Man!
You deserve to brag…I tried to make up for my tardy arrival at the electric party by owning/leasing a dozen of them in four years. The current fleet is down to four cars.
Wish the gv70 electrified got the new larger bat.
You want a dealer to show things about and electric car? What kind of dilusional world are you living in? These are middlemen interested in only one thing -- to get the most money out of you as they can. A vehicle that requires very little to no service is not what they want to sell you. The more confused and less informed that you, the better for them, in that you don't want to get another one.
Dealers are based in communities and need to have repeat customers to survive.
@electricprincipal543 The vast majority of dealerships today are owned by multi-million or multi-billion dollar auto groups. There are very few mom and pop dealers anymore.
Even if a group owns 20 dealerships, each one of those dealerships needs repeat customers to make a profit. Vote with your feet.
If it changes the push for EV's then great! The biggest scam of the decade is EV's,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I don’t understand how someone can recommend a 24 over a 25. The software upgrade (big deal) and usb ports alone are reasons to choose the newer vehicle. As a very happy 5N owner, I appreciate these upgrades immensely (N driving differences aside). Wireless carplay, etc.
Price, price, and price. New production factory, etc.
Fair and I should watch your other video! But as a person that keeps my car for as long as possible, I always want the newer ports and software I can get at the time. Thanks for the great videos!
Sorry, what app are they using?
Tesla app.
I have a Chevy bolt and a looking into the Ioniq 5 but I replace my tires very often on my Bolt. Which Ioniq model is easier on tires? I rarely drive in the snow but would consider AWD if it will save on tires.
All EV’s are tough on tires. Much depends on how heavy your right foot is! I’m not sure if driving a two wheel version of the car would be easier around the tires overall because all the energy is being driven from only two tires. You’ll need to rotate tires frequently.
You had the XRT listed with a ground clearance of 8 inches, but I think it’s 7. I only noticed because I’d like it to be 8 because that’s what I have on my current car and I like it. The I5 sits a little low for me, but I figure I’ll get used to it.
A key reason to wait for the 2025 is that the dash is now harmonious with other Hyundai cars such as the new Santa Fe. We have one and I would not want the old model as it is opposite to that car. Also it has real physical buttons for climate seats/wheel now. It seems small but that was enough for me to wait.
What do you mean by the dash is harmonious?
They did a nice job with the 25...I would just hold off and not buy one of the first cars out of the factory:)
@@Molishious on the pre-25 models the steering wheel controls like the cruise control etc are on opposite spokes to the new Santa Fe. I heard that all their electric cars were like this. But now it seems they have moved back to having all controls laid out the same on the wheel.
Don’t thank Musk for opening up the network. It was done in order for Tesla to qualify for billions in NEVI funding. And your Ioniq 5 will get ~100kw there, compared to 240+ at a 350.
Agreed. I use Tesla chargers with my IONIQ when they are convenient. There are two magic docs on my way to Denver. However, when the V4’s finally hit, will charge very quickly at Tesla stations that have been upgraded. I know Mr. musk is getting a lot of federal money for opening up his chargers, but as far as I’m concerned Those chargers were the best thing about Tesla. People will have few reasons to consider buying a Tesla now that the networks are open to all makes.
@ You’re still gonna get 100kw at v4s in your car. He’ll get not a nickel from me unless I’m 110% desperate.
V4 chargers will support 400 to 1000 volt car architecture. Your car will charge faster with these chargers.
@ That’s an unfounded assumption.
@ Seems Google Gemini AI disagrees with your assumption: “The charging rate for an 800V Kia EV at a V4 Tesla Supercharger is expected to be significantly improved compared to V3 Superchargers. While initial reports indicated limitations, recent updates and improvements have shown promising results. Here's what we know: * Initial Limitations: Early tests with the EV6 and V3 Superchargers showed limitations due to compatibility issues between the 800V architecture of the Kia and the 400V system of the Supercharger. This resulted in slower charging speeds, often capping at around 42 kW. * Recent Improvements: More recent reports suggest that Kia EVs, including the EV6, are now achieving higher charging speeds at both V3 and V4 Superchargers. Some users have reported reaching speeds of around 97 kW, which is a substantial improvement. * V4 Supercharger Potential: The V4 Superchargers are capable of delivering up to 500 kW of power. While it's unclear if Kia EVs will be able to fully utilize this potential, the 800V architecture of the Kia vehicles suggests that they could achieve significantly higher charging speeds than previously possible. It's important to note that actual charging speeds can vary depending on factors like battery temperature, state of charge, and the specific Supercharger station. However, with the ongoing improvements and the potential of V4 Superchargers, Kia EV owners can expect faster charging times and a more convenient charging experience. As more information becomes available and real-world experiences accumulate, we can expect a clearer picture of the charging capabilities of Kia EVs at Tesla Superchargers.”
Musk's comment about the tax credit going away is because he knows that Tesla is the only company that manufacture EV's at a profit without the federal government stepping in and giving away taxpayer money to subsidize the rest of the manufacturers EV's high sticker price. I think you're wrong about EV's going up after Jan 20th. Tesla has demonstrated that they can compete and have dropped prices of their vehicles in order to hit higher volumes but still maintain a good profit margin. They will do that after January 20th too. The rest of the car industry better decide if they want to stay in the EV business and change their business model in order to compete by being more vertically integrated/ in-house manufacturing.
Nice upgrade on the 2025!!👍🏽 I do luv my 2023 Hyundai ionic and performance. But through Hyundai I got a good deal on the 2023 ionic 5 dual motor which i upgraded from the 2020 Santa Fe turbo. The difference between the 2 I notice is that the Hyundai ionic 5 doesn’t require oil changes but very quick on acceleration but the Santa Fe was more responsive on rough roads then my ionic 5 which skips and looses traction if you hit a bump or pothole in roadways at higher speeds not sure why🤷🏽♂️ But on the Santa Fe I spent a lot of money on fuel cost like $350 and $400 monthly.
Are those rims 19"? Not sure why Hyundai insists on hurting range on the Limited with the 20" rims.
Americans seem to like big rims. I would love 18" wheels.
I agree. Seems crazy to me to worry about designing a car for efficiency and then put wheels on it that reverses so much of the other engineering. I also don’t find the larger wheels to be more attractive. Although I have heard they can help with handling, but not with ride quality, which is probably more important to most people.
The J3400 port is no big deal to me. I already have an adapter for when and if Tesla gives Hyundai the green light -which I would only use in an emergency. I get all kinds of compliments on my Limited's wheel covers. As for the cupholders, I much prefer them side-by-side. As for range, the 84 kWh battery boosts my range… only 9 miles. No big deal, if you ask me.
Until Tesla gets out a significant of V4 chargers, it is still faster to jump on a 350 Electrify America charger...when they are at full power.
@@electricprincipal543 Agreed! On a recent 1,689 mile roadtrip to CA, we averaged 13 minutes per charge at the Electrify America stations.
I’m perplexed about why the range improves so little on the limited compared to other trims. My guess is they are making up for the fact that they had the same range before for the cars with different wheel sizes and are now taking the wheel size into account with the 2025 limited. Just a guess though of course.
@@Molishious I think you are right. I wish they would ship them all with 18s.
When will it be able to charge at non MagicDock chargers? Is there any definitive word?
When Hyundai starts shipping the 25s from Georgia, the chargers will open. That will be Q1 of 25...soon!
Great Video. Thank you. Definitely worth a subscribe. I am really intrigued on the functionality of the Ioniq 5. The only drawback I see is the fact that it only haz a Centre Console and not a full console. To me it is still a deal breaker. But everything else about the Ioniq 5 is great, especially for the 2025 which now has a rear Wiper.
Gotta say, the Buzz got this childless guy thinking about a 3-row vehicle but the Ioniq sold me. With 300 miles of range, this is gonna be the road-trippin' land yacht of my grandparents' dreams.
I can't see how on January 20 the tax credit will magically go away. It would require a bill to be passed by both houses and then signed by the new dictator...I mean president. I'm guessing it would be at least another year at best.
The I9 seems really cramped in the back compared to the Buzz.
7500 dollar discount for a brand New Toyota Hybrid is going to be beautiful, I love the smell of those brand new Toyotas and they last forever!!!!
Damn i thougth i had learnt everything about my 2 month old ID.4. But now i know how to silence the stereo, see the range outlines on the map and wash my rear camera. Thats awesome! Thanks! I really missed a physical mute button, i used to use the scroll-down menu and there's a mute button there, but i wasnt really happy with that. I also didnt knew about how to wash the rear camera, i was so used to always have a clean camera coming from mercedes so that was really annoying because i tougth i always had to wipe the camera with my hands. But now i know! :) I love my id.4 even more now, such a great comfort, cheap to drive and now i know how to use it a little bit better! I totally agree that the salesguy should have had a better course of this
Love those wagons and vans. Hope we see a rebirth of the wagon and mini/vans again. I hated the way the original images looked for the I9. Now it looks a little better. I think it is the right size. Replace those mirrors with cameras for sure. Especially on the big rig semi tractor trucks. Cameras for the win. I disagree that charge speed is the bar and that we should continue to tolerate the 90-100 mile jumps between chargers. If you don't have good range during the winter to be able to go a good distance between charges even when it is cold and the weather is bad is every bit as important as charging speed. If you keep the battery in the sweet spot of 80-20% SOC the overall range needs to be quite good if you are going to have good travel range with that usable power. I think you MUST have both range and charging speed. 800v+ architectures for the win in the charging camp. Hyundai needs to put a LOT of effort into the software. Better routing, charging, and configuration. They are way behind here. I like the Buzz, but VW has too much stuff to get sorted. I don't think they listen to customers at all or they would be doing something to get ID4 sales moving. The list of complaints and wants has to be well known and VW just plods along like a deaf blind horse carrying a load. I like the format of the Buzz, but I would trust Hyundai over VW at this point in time. Besides the I9 should charge like a beast.
The Ioniq 9 is a real winner for large families, sports teams, car pool, shuttles. I think it has leapfrogged all other 3-row EVs, no question. The only reason I would opt for an ID Buzz over it is if VW released a "Westfalia" type of camper model. Wouldn't surprised me if Hyundai/Kia beats them to the punch with such an RV.
I think the Korean or maybe European versions of the Ioniq are better suited to camping - not so much with a kitchen or that, but more for just sleeping in w/ ample charging and good cooling.
Who cares? Not me..I ain't buying one...when Obama canceled the child tax credit, nobody cared enough to stop him...
Have been looking at a i5 for a while and finally bought one last week and your videos have been awesome! Really appreciate you putting out this information in such a nice formatted way!
Very thorough just like we wanted it.
Colorado 2-yr lease on an Ioniq 5 SEL here. The free charging is limited to the first 30 minutes per day so your "charge to 80%" is important. The preconditioning (warmup takes as much as 30 minutes in the cold) is also important. During your 30 minutes free, you want to be getting the fastest charge available, so arrive warm and ready. Once the charge reaches 80%, the car slows down the charging rate so stop charging there. That might leave you a few more free minutes for the day for a top-up later.
Thanks for your important. I’ve been using Electrify America for five years for free in various cars. I’ve never had an issue with Electrify America when I’ve had to charge multiple times during the day on a road trip. I have rarely ever had to go on 30 minutes per stop. Enjoy your car!
Colorado ioniq user here. Just got mine today , thanks for the tutorial!
What apps are the best for reading battery health info? Used leafspy for my Nissan Leaf before. Saw online that there were a few options for ioniqs so curious if you have a preference or don't use them.
You forgot the emergency boot lid release (especially relevant for the Ioniq 6) which is a loop inside a little panel beside the left rear passenger seat. I found out about it as my 12V battery went flat, and then there was no way to get into the boot, where my jump-start battery was stowed. Regarding regen levels, I mostly stick to Level 3 with auto mode (the level does effect how much regen is given in auto; very different in level 1 & auto versus level 3 & auto). That is giving me great efficiency, a smooth ride and excellent braking when cars ahead suddenly slow down.
Thanks for the comment and for watching the channel. Excellent point.
I love your videos. You're the best. When I bought my VW ID.4 early this year, I didn't learn much from my salesperson (I think it was the first EV she sold). I learned from your videos. Now I'm an expert and give advice to new VW owners on the ID.4 Owners Facebook page. But it all started with you. I've also been very surprised to experience the most hate I have ever received for anything in my life simply by owning an EV. You might be quite insulated from this living in CO, but in a deep red state like mine, everyone is conditioned by incessant Right Wing propaganda that they should absolutely despise EVs as unpatriotic. Their lord and savior, DJT, has made it his mission to "Drill baby drill" and it seems that everybody and his brother makes it their mission to tell me just what a Libtard I am for falling for the EV nonsense. I hear the exact same Fox News talking points from everybody, even the lady who cuts my hair. I was even surprised to get an outpouring of hatred from solar power enthusiasts when I posted a video of my solar EV charging station. They liked the solar, they hated that I was using it to charge something as vile as an EV. This is a more recent thing, but so far I have driven over a thousand miles on pure solar energy. No grid involved. I believe, like you stated, that given a chance to an open minded person, EVs would be found a superior mode of transportation to most people--NOT everyone, but most. However, what you might not be considering is how strong the anti-EV sentiment is in Red states. Identity politics has made tens of millions of people vote against their own interests, that's how strong it is.
Thank you so much for your comments. Keep spreading the joy of driving your EV. It is pure pleasure. I still have fond memories of my first EV, a Chevy Bolt. Driving that car was a life changer and most of the critics have never driven one. It is unfortunate that EVs have become political. I have a good friend who is a conservative and loves his Audi E-Tron. He should...it is a great car!
Will the 2025 model still come with free 2 year charging?
No…1000kWH from ChargePoint.
I wonder who encouraged you to prepare this video of complete nonsense. Are you aware that the public in the US and in Europe and many other parts of the world with the exception perhaps of China is rejecting battery powered electric vehicles? And nobody cares that just because you have the luxury of recharging in your own home that you think electric cars are wonderful. This is not the point. The animosity that the public harbors toward electric vehicles has to do with the fact that they are forced to pay for them with direct subsidies and mandates. And all of this for a form of transportation that does not address the needs and concerns of the majority of the public. Furthermore even a high school physics student can tell you that low energy density power sources are not suitable for transportation. So when the buffoons running the car companies decided to transition to battery electric vehicles they soon found out that their engineering teams had to jump through hoops to make up for the shortcomings associated with the excessive weight of the traction battery - not to mention the thermal management issues. This comes at considerable additional expense - so is this what you're encouraging people to buy? You belong with the buffoon crowd.🤡🤡🤡
Thanks for watching the channel. Lets see what happens in the next ten years. Are you aware that the 91% of new cars sold in Norway are electric? Also 21% of all new cars licensed in Europe are electric. EV's are just in their infancy and will do nothing but get better. You ever drive a 1923 model T? I have...not a great vehicle, but cars certainly improved since then. I own four EV's and won't go back to gas. I love my low density fueled electric car that I have driven across the country multiple times. In conclusion, you penchant for insults and name calling just demean your point of view. Why don't your try just making an intelligent comment without all the insults? You might even find people will take you seriously.
Why should I pay for another persons car? Thank god Trump won in a landslide. Elon believes that the debt that the US has is unsustainable. Go DOGE. I'm a public government worker and I have been living off the taxpayers dime.
GREAT VIDEO. SAVED!
I am sure all the ritewhingers who complaining about the economy and the price of eggs will flock to the Tesla shop to pick up their cyber truck now😂😂😂😂😂
EVs in general will definitely drop prices at a minimum $7,500 even at my location new unsold 2023/2024 Hyundai and Kia EV models are dropping prices up to $20,000 on their Ionic 5 and EV6
Where is that location area you are referring to? Those discounts are very tempting for those like myself considering an EV purchase. Thanks!
@slobodantrendic22 PuertoRico, but the same is happening in New York and Florida.
All of the OEM’s that are producing BEV’s or hybrids are not gonna let the tax credit go away without a significant amount of time for them to prepare. They’re already in talks with the Trump administration about it. The EV tax credit is not going away right at the first of the year through executive order.
I hope you’re right. Trump is going to want some wins, and if the Republican Party sticks together, they have the votes to amend the inflation reduction act.
I am heavily pondering this exact scenario -- to buy now or wait. Given the end of the (specifically used) tax credit is highly likely, its effect on EV prices I'm not so sure about. Every time I go to find a good deal on a used EV which might benefit from the $4,000 tax credit, the dealer has usurped the credit! None of them are passing the credit onto you. In other words, everything is inflated $4,000 in price almost automatically. The bad dealers even include it in the advertised price! Because of this, I don't think the credits are working or helping in any way. And if they go away, the dealers will be forced to lower their prices. Does that make any sense?
1st. If the 7,500 credit is the reason you’re “able” to afford a EV, then you really can’t afford it. 2nd. The EV tax credits are impacting depreciation in a big bad way. So you’re not really saving money with the credit. 3rd. Once people get over range anxiety and the chargers keep expanding, then the adoption will explode
@@badtoro Good points on depreciation. dealers are also just inflating the price to compensate so that they can get higher prices on the car. Particularly speaking of the used side of the credit which is a max of $4000. What's your advice if someone can only afford a used EV with the tax credit? Don't buy one? I figure a Tesla at this point isn't much worse to maintain than any other expensive used ICE vehicle? I know some say insurance.. but the difference between a EV and likewise ICE seems to be also marginal (80-120/mo for ICE vs max of 200 /mo for Tesla)
@@badtoro another thing to ponder is that, as the new administration comes in and they eliminate these tax credits this will provide Tesla more of a monopoly on EV - thereby allowing them to raise prices and reverse depreciation? this is because US manufacturers want to focus on ICE and they're going to be handed EPA restriction cuts in favor of letting Tesla have the EV market? This is somewhat widely predicted?
Wonder why there so many sitting on the lots . gas will be under 2.00 soon .
Why do you think that? World crude prices are not US based and historically have little correlation to who is in the White House.
There are a lot of cars sitting on the lot that aren’t electric. I went to two Hyundai dealerships in different parts of the country the past two days and I sure see a ton of brand new Santa Fe Suvs. They get great reviews sitting on lots. The Santa Fe is a fantastic car and should be going out the door quickly and they are not.
I was going to buy a Modely Y after we test-drove it a couple of months ago but after seeing him for full nazi (Never go full nazi! lol - Tropic Thunder ref), I'm getting an F150 Lightning.
The way batteries have plunged in cost over the last decade, EVs should already be cheaper than similar sized ICE counterparts. I think manufacturers are keeping prices artificially high.
I think manufacturers of slash cost of EV’s so much in the past year, that many of them are probably losing money on EV’s. Are you talking about the battery manufacturers?
@@electricprincipal543 We've seen the graphs of how battery costs have dropped over the past decade, and seen predictions that battery costs will fall another 50% in the next two years. We're also told that the battery makes up to 40% of the cost of the vehicle. So if today 40% of the cost is going to halve, the car price should also drop by 20% in two years. Have we seen that decline in EV prices in the past as battery costs declined? I didn't think we had, but I haven't been studying new EV sales prices that much. But when a new EV costs less than the same model with an ICE engine, EVs will sell themselves, and we won't need complicated tax rebates and other incentives.
As someone who in month 2 of a 2 year lease on an Ioniq 6 I'm already thinking it maybe be better just to but the car when the lease is up
If it weren't for the $7500 tax credit I wouldn't be driving a 2024 model Y nor would my brother be driving a Chevy Bolt. The credit was the main reason to pull the trigger on a $48,000 Tesla that became a little more affordable to me. It goes without saying that Orange Julius Caesar will do the dumbest , most illogical thing possible so the credits will be gone until we get another democrat in the White House. I can understand a reluctance to enhance Musk's bottom line but I got my car before he became trump's besty and became a permanent fixture at Mara Lardo. Vote with your feet , it's a tried and true way to say what's on your mind.
Tesla is 100% off my list.
Does it have to do with Elon Musk?
Me too, both the Musk factor and inferior products. It’s not 2015, or even 2019 anymore.
Proud of you for speaking your mind, buddy. How was kindergarten today?
@@WeisLending Someone thinks they’re cute. You sound like a DoucheBro Cybertruck driver.
Costing me $7500, not happy.
