Thank you! I’ve now been in the space for three years and I still feel so fortunate and lucky to work in this beautiful space.

I used mulberry paper. Here is a link to the company I use: www.mulberrypaperandmore.com They have tons of options. I used either the: Thai Unryu/Mulberry Paper - WHITE 40 GSM or WHITE 25. I don’t recall and I’ve order both. I hope that helps.

I also recently bought this 1/8” wide double sided tape and liked using it with the mulberry paper. I don’t like being around stinky spray adhesive so it is a nice alternative when your environment calls for another option. Yes, Gorrilla Glue needs some water to be added. I’ve been told by a friend that it foams up a lot more if you added a bunch of water (maybe like using a sponge). You’ll have to practice to get the right amount for your project. This friend introduced me to a fine mister used with plants, that is what I’m using in this video. I spray the air above my work as it nicely helps distribute the mist instead of directly spraying the veneer. I recently say David Bedrosian on IG use Gorrilla Glue on thin commercial veneer (and with a wet sponge) and he looked super happy with the results, but has t applied finish yet and it looks like there was some glue squeeze out through all the pores. Great question. There are a lot of veneer glues that are made for commercial veneers which are considerably thinner then this shop sawn veneer. I actually bought some veneer from www.veneersupplies.com and got it out to use on this project and realized on the label that it wasn’t meant for this thickness. I then started studying what Philip Morley does since he has recently been doing a lot of shop sawn veneer glue ups. I checked in with him and he uses Gorilla Glue. I got some good tips from him about wrapping in plastic, wearing gloves, using a fine plant mister, and misting the air above not spraying the panel directly. I’m pretty sure he learned a bunch of these techniques from Tim Coleman. I definitely not a glue nerd but I think it comes down to the amount of solids in the glue and how rigid the glue holds. I did a few practice rounds to experiment on how much Gorrilla Glue to use as well as water and now you are seeing those results. I hope that was at least a tiny bit helpful.

Hi Reese, your comment had me go check out what jointers Laguna is currently offering on their website. And you are correct, the lineup has really changed. I purchased this one thru Seattle Woodcraft in 2016, it has the carbide insert cutter head, 12" wide + lots of cast iron. You might have to search for a used one in your area or maybe you have a local company that sales lightly used or scratch/dented new power tools and let them know you are looking for one of these. Tomorrow when I'm in the shop, I'll pull out the manual and get you the specs/official name on this jointer.

Hi Reese, I finally dug up the info on the jointer. Model MJOIN12X86-5-1-0130, 220 volt, 1 phase 5 HP, made in Taiwan. I paid $4,999 for it brand new. That is super sweet that we both shop at the Seattle Woodcraft. Do you still live in the area?

Thanks for the kind words. It is kind of common for me to end my sentences at a higher note, not sure why I do that because I'm not trying to ask as question. The finishing room has been awesome!

I started out with a wish list when I first met with the architect to design the shop. I wanted 10' ceiling somewhere in the shop to flip boards over and for vertical storage. I wanted lots of power as I hope to run classes with 2 or 3 students (so that is kind of unique for a home shop) so more power had to get connected to our house. I wanted about a 4 car garage foot print with on "bay" turned into a clean space for storage or being about to do finishing work. Then my architect pitched the idea of the shed roof as it mirrors our house. He also added a similar window layout as our house. Tools quickly picked their locations based on where windows were located and ceiling height. The fine tuning of tool locations has come by using the space and having enough power in the shop that it is easy to try moving a tool and that I can still easily plug it in. At this point tools still tend to move a foot or two in most directions if I'm working on a big projects. I'm hoping that in the next year I can start to add permanent ducting for dc now that I know the shop is functioning well.

Good idea! Have you heard of Texas Heritage? It is run by Jason and Sarah. I took a 5 day leather working class with them and then spent tons of time outside of class working on that leather case. www.txheritage.net Since then I've been teaching myself more leather working and have a few videos dedicated to that on my channel.

Thank you!! I really lucked out on being able to buy this house when it came on the market in 2019. The previous homeowners had done such a nice job with the house architecture and the yard landscaping. It just didn't have a big shop like I wanted. From there I got connected with an architect and he came up of the grand idea of adding so many windows and using the shed roof like the rest of our MCM house. So now it looks like the shop has always been on our property and let's me take in so much natural light and all of our nice landscaping (many of the windows mirror the location on the house).

Thanks!!! The carriage doors are so beautiful!!! I can't believe I ordered paint grade and got these! They were so worth the time of doing the multiple coats of spar varnish myself. The Ron Paulk miter station has been fantastic. I love all the length on it. I bought his plans and adapted it to my space since I didn't need it to be portable. I've loved having a high work surface that I can clamps to anywhere. I don't keep the open void space very organized and it can get kind of messy, but I really like its functionality. I have the fences removable in case I want more bench workspace. I've definitely taken them off for time to time. I've also seen and like the idea of using a thicker top material and recessing the track for the miter saw, so that it is there when you want it and no need to remove it when you want a wide workbench.

I know, it is a bit ridiculous having such a nice woodworking shop. More money went into it to have so many comforts but it does leave me feeling super inspired and I love spending time in there. If it helps, it took a lot of baby steps to get to this point. I started out in community shops for years, just bringing my projects in every day to work on. I saved all my funds to eventually buy nice new tools. That got to happen after my spouse and I stopped moving around and bought our first house. I crammed as many tools as I could into that two car garage. I almost had no walkways. And only a small north facing window. I still can't believe I had the chance to build this shop and I definitely do my best to fully enjoy it.

Great input! My tools have for the most part settled into locations. I still seem to move them around a bit (for the most part it is just a foot or two if I'm working with really long stock). It has been great taking almost two years to get to know the space and get it organized before doing permanent ducting. But of course I'm tired of moving my flex hose around so I'm ready to contemplate buying a bigger dust collector and putting up my ducting. I agonize over purchases so I'm not looking forward to doing the research to decide which dc I should purchase. The windows have been such a delightful part of my shop experience now. I love taking in the day as I get to woodwork.

Thanks for the kind comment! This shop really has become my happy place! I so enjoy spending my time in there, even if it is just cleaning. And it is a great way to merge my hobby of vegetable gardening and a chance to really taken in all of the landscaping in the yard. There is something special about being able to track the weather and sun all day.

All the windows has been so nice to take in every sunspot the PNW can offer during the long wet winters. Suddenly, I've discovered since moving into this shop there is sun then what I had experienced my previous 5 winters combined. I was just missing those little moments because I didn't have windows. It has been nice taking my time, moving tools around. Now that I've been in the space for almost 2 years, I am starting to get eager to want to put in some permanent ducting for dust control, but I'm not looking forward to all of the research that goes into deciding which unit I should purchase. EXCELLENT EYE!! I've been building this sideboard for a while and my pieces kept cupping. Plus I build furniture very slowly. So I made those cauls out of some squared up 2x4's. I've since had to remake the panels as my boards would not stay flat (it was from wood that I milled up from a tree in my backyard and air dried). I've now remade all of those pieces out of plywood with shop sawn veneer as I'm really attached to making this piece of furniture for our house out of wood from our house. The long caul has been a great reference surface as I didn't have a work bench long enough to build this piece on. Plus I think it will really aid the glue up when it comes time for that.

Thank you! I've definitely spent plenty of time in wood shops that didn't have any windows. It does give you more room to hang things on the wall. But I am loving all the natural day light. The inside shop space is 44' x 21', basically a 4 car garage footprint. You should check out my follow up video on this one where I go into a few things in greater detail.

The big carriage doors are so pretty, they make me smile as soon as I enter the space. They really frame the entire room and let in so much day light. I love pushing my mobile work benches and working in front of them. Just yesterday I was standing in front of them working and watching it snow.
