Olive Oil Tasting in Carovigno, Italy
Taking a bike ride in the beginning of June from Brindisi to Carovigno with FIAB. We visited the Tenute Parco Piccolo and they greeted us with snacks and refreshments. We learned about the different types of olive oils and how the extra virgin olive oil from a small mill differs from what you find in the supermarket.

Southeast Sicily: The Road to Ragusa
Переглядів 2,1 тис.8 місяців тому
This was the last part of our one week trip to Sicily. We left Syracuse and drove to Ragusa, stopping at Noto, Scicli, and Modica along the way. All of the towns were nice, but Ragusa was our favorite. We were there during Easter so were able to take part in the Easter Procession starting from the cathedral in Ragusa and winding through the old town. Since we are fans of Il Commissario Montalba...
Cycling Across Italy - From the Adriatic to the Ionian Sea

This was a full day trip starting in Brindisi and taking the train from there to Oria. I had breakfast in Oria before making my way with the bike to coast stopping in Manduria along the way. I covered the Ionian coast from San Pietro in Bevagna until Torre Lapillo stopping at Punta Prosciutto in between as well as several other smaller beaches. From there I travelled to Lecce, passing through V...
Puglia Bike Tour - Biking the Acquedotto Pugliese

We took a train from Brindisi to Grottaglie and started climbing towards Villa Castelli. From there we got on the Ciclovia dell'Acquedotto Pugliese and climbed some more towards Locorontondo and the Valle d'Itria. The landscape was filled with rolling hills and tons of trulli. From Locorotondo we descended to Fasano where we caught the train after our second attempt. Even though we had reserved...

Halfway through our trip to Sicily we arrived in Syracuse. Our plan was to spend one day in Ortigia visiting the historic center and one day in Neapolis, the archeological park outside of the city. There is always more to see but this felt like the right amount of time to me. Puglia Bike Tour - Cisternino to the Coast

We did an improvised tour of the Coastal Dune Park (Parco Nazionale Regionale Dune Costiere) today with FIAB Brindisi, starting from the train station in Cisternino. The park lies in the territory of Ostuni and is full of trails to explore. We saw the Dolmen of Montalbano which dates back to the 2nd or 3rd Millennial BC and snaked our way through ancient olive groves. Once we reached the coast ...

After visiting Catania, we rented a car and drove up the Eastern coast of Sicily towards Taormina, stopping at Acireale on the way. Before parking the car in Taormina, we drove up to Castelmola which overlooks Taormina. After 1 day in Taormina, we did a loop around Mt. Etna stopping in Randazzo and Bronte.
Amphitheater Bike Tour of Lecce

A warm, sunny day in April - perfect for a bike excursion in southern Italy. I passed by an amphitheater randomly on my bike several weeks ago that seemed at first glance completely abandoned. After some googling, I found out that it was an archeological site available to visit by guided tour only. It is a short ride from Lecce city center so we made a day of it and brought some lunch along fro...

This was how we spent one day in Catania, covering the main sights. We arrived in the morning and left our luggage at the hotel before walking to the Piazza Duomo. From there we walked down Via Etnea, the main shopping street towards the Bellini Garden. The view of Mount Etna was not great due to the sandstorms arriving from Africa. For me the Fish Market was the highlight of Catania. We ate we...

Despite the iPhone app telling me it was a day of sunshine, it turned out to be a day of intermittent rain. I thought about cancelling the ride in the morning but my eternal optimism was holding out for a clearing of the clouds. I went from Lecce to Copertino first and onward to Nardò. I decided to keep going because I had some extra time and visited Porto Selvaggio. Unfortunately I had to rush...

An afternoon ride inland from Brindisi. I pick up lunch at Lu Furnu on the way, located right outside of Brindisi city center. We were in Ragusa for New Years Eve 2024~2025 . Very in advance , we booked a room at Itrea hotel , what a nightmare !!! They gave us a room located outside the main building( 6 minutes away ) , the room was very dirty and also outside around the front door very unsanitary .

About to do a 4 night trip (Feb 5-9) to southeast Sicily. Renting a car and will stay in two very nice airbnbs. First two nights in Catania (flying in after a 2 week business trip from Florence) and then the final 2 nights in Regusa. Do you think those are the best cities to base myself in for a 2 night and 2 night split? By the way I’ve already visited Palermo-Cefalu-Taormina on a summer trip 2 years ago! I tried to pick city bases which weren’t too sleepy with good food & views from the Airbnbs…and in between all these stops!

Sounds like a good plan for 4 days, if you’ve already seen Taormina, you could take off a bit earlier from Catania and spend an extra half day in the Ragusa area. I liked that area a bit more as there are more towns like Modica in close proximity.

Beautiful video! Just something to keep in mind, some people might not want to see the inside of a church when they watch these kinds of videos. That's the only thing you showed us at your first stop. You did say that there wasn't much to see there, that it was small. I would have preferred for you to show us a shot of the main street in the village so we could see how they live but thank you though for your video. The rest was really great!

Nice one. How many hours did it more or less take you? It's 25 km but some slow parts, so maybe 1.5 - 2h including stops? Maybe an all terrain bike is better for such journeys? I mean they are slower on the main road but better for the sand tracks.

    • @profondosud4829
      @profondosud4829 10 місяців тому

Maybe you misread the distance in the video? It was 75 km total and I tend to be slow so it was a whole day adventure for me. 25 km would be like Lecce to Copertino round trip which is not bad. I did a poor job planning this one...everything from choosing the roads to watching the weather. If I were better organized my touring bike would have been just fine. Just fixed up my mountain bike so maybe I'll look for somewhere to use that...
