Why You Hate Nice Rappers
The rise of "nice rappers" has been one of hip-hop's most controversial shifts. But how did being "soft" go from career suicide to chart-topping success? From N.W.A.'s game-changing "Straight Outta Compton" to Drake's transformation from sensitive crooner to self-proclaimed "6 God," we're breaking down how hip-hop's bad boys gave way to a new generation of nice guys.
In this deep dive, we're exploring hip-hop's radical image makeover from an entirely new perspective. How did gangsta rap revolutionize the genre with albums like Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" and Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle"? How did 50 Cent become hip-hop's ultimate supervillain with "Get Rich or Die Tryin'? And how did Kanye West make being "nice" cool again with "The College Dropout" and "Late Registration"?
We're pulling back the curtain on rap history, revealing how the image of the "bad guy" dominated charts from Tupac's "All Eyez on Me" to Jay-Z's "Reasonable Doubt." You'll be shocked to learn how 50 Cent's reign as hip-hop's most formidable antagonist came crashing down in a legendary sales battle against Kanye West's "Graduation."
Get ready for the full, uncensored story of how Kanye West's success spawned a whole new generation of "nice guy" rappers. We're exploring why artists like J. Cole ("2014 Forest Hills Drive"), Chance the Rapper ("The Big Day"), and Logic ("Bobby Tarantino II") struggled to maintain their wholesome images in an industry that values toughness above all else.
As we dig deeper, we'll examine how Drake, once hip-hop's poster boy for vulnerability with "So Far Gone," completely reinvented his image with projects like "If You're Reading This It's Too Late" and "What a Time to Be Alive" to stay on top. We'll also touch on how this shift affected his relationships with artists like Pusha T, Kendrick Lamar, and even his former idol, Kanye West.

The TRUTH About Ashanti and Nelly’s RELATIONSHIP
J Cole is not soft wtf 💀
Logic is so overhated tbh.
I’m gonna add another nuanced take to this. Hip-hop and music/marketing executives have sold both black people and other groups a “one size fits all” mold for black masculinity. The thug, street 🥷🏾 whose only purpose in life is to slang dope and murder other people that look just like them. And you know what? We took the bait. It’s the same reason why if black men are into “nerdier” pursuits like video games, manga, and anime they’re looked at as “weird”, get called heinous names like “Oreo”, and in some cases our sexuality is even questioned. By extension, the reason why people don’t like “nice” rappers is because they’ve been sold a false narrative about who black men are/“how” they’re supposed to exist.
André 3000 & J. Cole well one day Win an Oscar that's How Good I Believe They Are.
if i don't like a rapper, that means he is wack. That is the case for anything that blow up since the late 00s.
The problem with Chance is he was pretending to be nice and he has shown himself to actually be an asshole.
drakie poo isen't a bully he's getting bullied by the internet and kendrick
Chance dropping another insane single not a day after this drops HAS to be a subliminal diss. 😭😂
Cole isnt soft, he is polite
All eyes on me a couple years later all eyes on me he a 69 god 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
i probably should start listening to j cole maybe i’ll catch up on some sleep
10:40. "Ah - Pit - Tah - Me" or Epitome
Eminem
Violent rap concurs all. But you can be artistic with it as well. Once again. Go listen to stick with jid etc..
10:56 😂😂😂😂😂 I can't stop laughing cus you laughed at tht part lmao. And people stil listen to positive rap. I don't but I listen to Ken drake and Cole when they talking that dark shit. Cole learned how to blend his sound as time went on while still continuing to be his self. Go listen to stick for an exact example. But you a hunnit percent right. That's why these dudes build they brands on not being scared of anything. I love all rap. I definitely see violent rap get more love tho. Way more love. It's entertaining tbh. But also that's why we see rappers die like every month. Alota of them kinda take it to far. Rip to all. But because they be talking tht goon n op shit, it makes it harder for me to feel sad or cry.
I actually love all 3 of those rappers, I honestly don’t care
As a J. Cole and Logic fan, you have been proven wrong
I like nice rappers. It’s always good to spread positivity and get people to be nicer. I think we should completely ditch the fact that bad is cool, because it just makes douches a thing
“why you hate” and j cole on the thumbnail not sure why im clicking this but we’ll see 🙏
Dawg logic ain’t corny he’s hard tf?
Because rap is toxic. It’s a genre that has been tarnished to keep black people in a crab bucket mentality while promoting consumerism. If rap is the genre by which most black people feel represented and that genre do not promote self love, healthy growth and camaraderie, how can it be called anything else BUT toxic.
Logics Ultra 85 sold poorly as well because he didnt really promote it. He said he didnt want to cuz it was for the fans who stayed with him over the years and are waiting for a follow up of the incredible true story
He's also independent now, those are actually great numbers for someone no longer in the main stream and isn't even under a label
J coles not bad though
He didn't perform the song by the way
The commets bruh, you just summoned the stans. I'm actually a big Eminem fan, but his fan base is just so toxic and cringe. I loved TDOSS tho.
4 words for you: A Tribe Called Quest
This makes XXXTentacion, Lil Peep and Juice WRLD are soft and corny. I swear some hip hop fans don’t know what they’re saying.
X was a whole ass villain lil bro 💀
@@_Vaal_Hazak_ I know, but this video seemed anyone ‘soft’ who wasn’t a gang member. X wasn’t a gang member, but he did some illicit activities.
YB not turning up to a Cole session, actually some bs. Cole deserve more respect than that
Tbh Logic is also a good rapper
People who say that Logic is corny - never really listened to his songs, PERIOD.
They're the same guys who listen to Ian
Right he has so much in his catalogue that casuals will never listen to
Rap Lore, the first breakout rap star was Meastro Fresh Wes THEN Kardi then Drake
While MF DOOM might not be the biggest villain but he is the best villain
he a mad villain
anybody who hates Cole is a clown
jcole said if he smokes a rapper it aint gon be for clout or fame and everyone now putting him in a category because he decided to not get involved in a beef with a p3do and kendrick which was a personal beef, jcole had nothing personal in the beef bro would devastate kendrick in rap beef if he actually felt a type of way about them, but kendrick and jcole are friends. like stop glazing kendrick this hard
who hates j cole???? if u think he's soft ur stupid asf 😭
Drake the type of guy to say: "No more mister nice guy! >:)"
By this logic, Eminem is soft
Bro being nice doesn’t mean you suck, Logic and Cole are incredible
that's exactly what I'm saying
So this is what the internet has come to
Great video, I almost got distracted by the whistles in your speaking lol
Cole got handed a L with Drake. You can't fire off shots then be scared afterwards
It was the right thing though, imagine if it was cole instead of Drake
@@GameAflameYT let's be honest, he would do far better than drake and would def hurt kendrick. He would lose but would keep his reputation. But a good thing he didn't have to fight, and it seems now the thing that hurt his career wasnt tapping out, but dropping grippy
@@pranawdhital He wouldn't do far better than Drake. 7 minute drill was terrible and full of nothing but reaches. All of Drake's disses were genuinely better than that track.
@@MR12AMAZING yeah, but cole is far better than 7 minute drill, he had nothing to fight for, if he had stakes he would do much better
@@MR12AMAZING woah thats a stretch. THP6 if definitely not better than 7MD
Rappers aren’t hard. Even 50 cent became soft af
But ATCQ was against hood rappers but I still love them, how?
It’s crazy that Logic is called corny… He’s really just a nice guy who is super musically talented. I can’t see what people don’t like.
his whiteness
racism
bc he is corny, his obsession with being able to say the n word is corny, no matter how u look at it, his raps is decent tho
@@wydmatt7294I mean he is a white looking light skin so it’s tough to be mixed in reality but look more than white more than anything
his biracialism
Drake is a force of nature stop being biased 😂
The beastie boys run dmc and ll cool j were my favourites as a kid then my uncle introduced me to public enemy nwa ice t eminem treach and i instantly fell in love with that more harder side of rap
Cole not soft, just smart
Hood n should be smart
His both
yea now. but 1st 5 years he was soft ppl still call him that
J fold
pretty sure it was MC ren who was called the villain but correct me if i am wrong
Do you have to be in a gang or lie about being one to not be called a soft rapper?
In other words, join a gang, or talk about gang related activity. Gotcha🤦🏾♂️😒
