A collection of fishing videos highlighting fly fishing and the beautiful environments I find myself in while enjoying the pursuit of trout.
Fly Fishing the Ozarks - Late Summer Trout (Multiple Underwater Releases)
I spent the day on a favorite stretch of water on a late summer day and was able to land several nice fish. Leaves were just starting to fall off of trees and it wasn't too hot, but it was mostly clear blue skies and the water was low. So I tended to target the shaded areas I found as the day went on, and usually that is where I connected with them. I did find a large pod with some really nice fish in the middle of the stream in the direct sun. They were schooled up with some suckers, but after I caught a nice brown none of them seemed like they were interested in anything else I presented. They were very spooky most of the day. It was still a great day and I had the whole section of stream to myself.

Picking off Rainbow Trout along the banks of the Blue River, Colorado
Переглядів 2275 місяців тому
This video is of a few more trout I caught with my guide along the Blue River in Silverthorne. We were sight casting to all of them and often could see them eat the fly. It was a fun way to fish and more beautiful scenery even though the town was right there.
Honey Hole - Fly Fishing the Blue River, Colorado
Переглядів 2 тис.5 місяців тому
This spot on the Blue River was absolutely stacked with some very nice trout. The current break was ideal holding water that a lot of them chose to sit and feed in. The river was still running higher than normal for late June, so most of the fish were hugging the bank and feeding on all the food the high water was bringing in. Most of these fish ate a worm imitation and were in shallower water ...
Fly Fishing Colorado - Ten Mile Creek Inlet - Dillon Reservoir

This video is a series of clips of just a few fish I caught with my guide in the morning hours of a recent trip in late June. We spent the whole time in about a 150 yard stretch of deep riffled water and we landed around 25 fish that morning drifting nymphs under an indicator. What a beautiful background to be looking at and the fish were really cooperating! This spot was right where a creek en...
Two Nymphs, Two Trout, Same Drift - Blue River, Colorado

Probably a once in a lifetime situation catching 2 rainbow trout at the same time on the Blue River in Colorado. It was an amazing day of fishing in general, and this was just the icing on the cake.
Tight Line Nymphing for Wild Rainbow Trout in Missouri
Переглядів 1946 місяців тому
This is a video of a few trout that I caught while officially trying out tight line nymphing for the first time. I got a specialized leader with a sighter and have been reading a lot about it, and after fishing for most of the day with an indicator I finally decided to try it out. Much to my surprise, I fished back through the same water I had already fished that day and caught several with the...
Wild Rainbows - Ozark Spring Creek Nymphing in Winter
Переглядів 1636 місяців тому
Another great winter day on a spring creek fly fishing for wild rainbows. They weren't very big, but they were beautiful. I caught trout in nearly every pool I fished and had the whole stream to myself all day.
Hybrid Striped Bass on the Fly! - Popper Dropper - Lake of the Ozarks
Переглядів 157Рік тому
I had a couple hours to fish on a fall afternoon at the Lake of the Ozarks and rigged up a popper with a wooly bugger a couple feet below it. I had caught a few bluegill as I walked along the seawall, but all of a sudden I saw a big swirl where my popper was and set the hook...and this fish started peeling line and nearly pulled the rod from my hand. Once I got it to the surface to see what and...
Staying Versatile in Tough Conditions - Fly Fishing Spring Creeks

One of the biggest keys to success in fishing is your ability to adapt to the current situation. In this video I have outlined 3 different techniques used "at the right place at the right time" to fool 3 different trout in 3 different pieces of water on the same day. It was late Summer, there was not a cloud in the sky, the water was low and extremely clear, and the fish were very spooky. After...
Wild Rainbow Trout - Targeting Shade in a Spring Creek in Late Summer (Bonus Underwater Footage)
Переглядів 223Рік тому
This section of the creek always seems to produce a decent trout or two in all the places you'd expect them. It is not very big water in this part of the creek, so it's typically pretty obvious where the fish should be. These four fish were all sitting in locations with nearby cover, and most importantly I think, SHADE. So I try to focus on the shadows cast by the trees on my drifts that also h...

That kid just nets the fish and takes the hook out all day?
Yes, as well as took me where the fish were, what rig and flies to use, and helped with spotting them in the river. He was a great guide for someone visiting the area with only 1 day to fish.
Excuse me, where is it? It’s so beautiful. What is the address of that place please?
It’s near Silverthorne, CO and I used Cutthroat Anglers as my guide. Check it out!
I fished that stretch 2 weeks ago. Amazing place!
That is a fantastic fishing spot. I'm in South-East PA and I feel like all the rivers around here are super muddy and slow. I am jealous of how clear that water looks.
It is pretty clear when it hasn’t rained for a bit, but I was also experimenting with a filter on my GoPro that was supposed to cut down glare. I think that added to the clarity. Thanks for watching!
Meramec River.. ?
Nope it was the Current, but I need to get back to the Meramec again and see how it’s changed!
Nice video.
Thanks for watching!
The ‘Likes’ function doesn’t seem to work. What river are you on? I enjoyed your video.
Hey thanks a lot! This was the Current River.
Waters high on the Blue there whoa
Yeah it was a lot of unusual run off still for late June apparently. They were all hanging in the softer water near the banks as a result.
Very poor handling…..
Looked like a lot of fun
Yes it was! Nice channel name, I will have to check it out!
Great work man
Thanks a lot, glad you liked it!
No respect for the fish, you look like your catching large mouths, hacks get off the water😮
crazy how many you pulled from this section! great fishing
It was amazing, even the guide was excited how new fish just kept showing up in holding spots after catching one. Thanks for watching!
Awesome man! Wish i was there fishing
What a day on the Blue! I've had some good days, but that many quality fish in one spot is remarkable.
I couldn’t believe it either, and that was like an hour or so of total time in this spot! Caught several others up and down stream but only 1 or 2 per spot. It was an awesome day for sure! Thanks for watching
Nice!
Nice! I've been wondering about this beat for a while. The Blue near Troutlet Mall has been a crutch for years, or the Splatte. I'll give this a try next weekend.
Good luck, they sure seemed to be concentrated in that long riffle all morning! Thanks for watching!
Awesome video, thanks for sharing! 👏🏼
Thanks for watching!
Remember fishing the Blue on the way to my folks cabin near Troublesome creek. Fished green wooly worms in rapids like that when summer got hot, and it always held fish.
It’s a gorgeous river even running higher, I wish the water was lower when I was there but we found them nonetheless. Thanks for watching!
it amazes me the morons fly fishing these days
Nice job on both videos. I have been busier than usual this summer but hoping to get on that creek very soon, anxious to see what all the rain lately around there has done for better water levels now! I too have thought about using the leader sight system, just need to bite the bullet like you did and start learning it!
I imagine there has been some serious water moving through there, but I haven't been back since this last winter either. I am really excited about the leader system and will be trying it on other local waters hopefully in the coming months. I think it will produce more fish based on what I've read, watched, and now briefly experienced. Thanks for watching!
Please share a little bit about your set up. Flies, leader, rod length/ wt.
I was using a 9 ft 4 weight with a standard mono rig that I purchased from Troutbitten.com (wealth of information there about tight lining). I was using a stonefly as the top fly and an egg pattern below that. Most of them ate the egg. Thanks for watching!
If you don’t mind me asking, what were you using as your dropper here? I’ve caught them out on the Little River down in the foothills on a quasimoto pheasant tail but have never had luck with that same fly up in the higher, smaller waters. Great video too. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for watching. I can’t exactly recall what we were using unfortunately. I want to say it was 2 nymphs some of the time when we were just using an indicator - one was a generic type nymph like a hare’s ear and the other was a small grub type nymph I think.
What were you getting them on?
Just a black woolly bugger
Hi Tom - It was great to see you today at your Mom & Dads 50th anniversary gathering. It’s was cool to hear that you have this channel. I’m going check out all of your videos. I’d love to get together with you and your dad to fish sometime. Fish on! - Mike
Hey Mike, great to see you as well and hope you enjoy the videos! I’m a little better at the fishing part than the video editing part, but they’re evolving the right direction I think. Time is scarce these days, but maybe we can put a trip together somewhere. Thanks again for watching!
What section of the river is this?
I just went to one of the access points below the trout park and then hiked for a bit
Thanks for another great video
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!
Great video
Thanks!
Nice video! Well done. None of the mindless chatter others bore us with.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Nice music. I have to get back there this summer!
So do I, haven’t made it this year yet but hoping to change that by fall!
Great video. I noticed when you strip your line and you're letting go you should be pulling beneath your right hand that's holding the rod and never let go if you get a big enough fish you're going to lose them
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the tip. I think I am doing what you’re describing, but perhaps I mishandled the line at some point trying to pick up the slack. No doubt it’s best to maintain constant pressure on them after the hookset.
Wonderful video and wonderful trout: thanks for posting!!!
So glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching!
where is this at?
The upper Meramec around Steelville, MO
Where is this on the mermac?
Cardiac Hill access and then hike upstream or downstream, there’s good water either way.
I don't know why I haven't seen your channel before! I've been a warmwater fisherman most of my life. I live near Branson Missouri and just recently developed an interest in trout on the fly! I just turned 61 and I've been fly fishing since I was 7years old. Gonna binge the channel and learn. Thanks!
Welcome to the channel! Never too late to get into trout, but watch out because it’s addicting! You’ve got some good trout water near you there. Good luck on your journey and hope you pick up some useful things from some of the videos.
Good video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the content 👌🏽went ahead and smashed that subscribe button, keep on fishin’ on 🤙🏽🎣
Awesome thank you!
Being a local, that’s one of my favorite stretches! Always catch nice smallies and goggle eye. I call that float my ‘sun up to sun down’ float. Thanks for the video!
Yep it’s so much good water on that stretch it’s almost worth doing an overnight on a gravel bar to really cover it all thoroughly. I did the same float early October and we had less success though. Anyways glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!
You need to get that fly line off of the water. Use a mono rig system or nymphing fly line with a long leader.
I have been reading a lot about a mono rig the last couple years and do want to try that. I just default to what I know most times because I still catch them pretty regularly. But I recognize its versatility and that it would likely increase my catch rate once I got the hang of it. Thanks for watching and for your comment.
Stunning
Can you set a little harder!
I have caught many hundreds of these little Brookies in the mountains of Wyoming! It keep you in touch with nature, and they are beautiful! Thanks!
Yeah I only had one day to fish there and could have gone for the bigger water and bigger fish, but I wanted the small creek/brookie experience in the mountains. It's really a special place, and agreed they are some of the prettiest fish you can find in fresh water.
That was a very nice trilogy! Water was high that day. That wind must have been tough on that new 4 weight. It is so nice on that river when the rare day of no wind shows its face. Great videos! Thanks!
Thanks again! Yeah I didn’t use it much, it was a backup rod and I just wanted to catch the first fish on it before the trip ended. My arm was definitely worn out after all the wind. Thanks a lot for watching!
@@FishFearMe you're welcome!
Very nice and informative! You had alot of fight and bend on your rod. Is it about a size 4? Thanks!
Hey thanks for the kind words! You are correct, that was a 4 weight rod.
@@FishFearMe thank you very much! I have been contemplating on going down a size on these smaller streams where I live in western Wyoming. Subbed.
@@timberlinegoldprospecting2358 That’s an awesome place to live, kind of jealous! I’ve really enjoyed my 4 wt and just got it this year. My first fish on it was actually about a 2 lb cutthroat on a dry on the South Fork of the Snake this past summer. Tight lines!
@FishFearMe I bet that was a fight! That is some stiff water. What state do you live in? I am about 20 minutes from the South Fork just below Palisades. I usually throw a 5/6 weight there. My favorite time there is on the Salmon fly hatch about mid June.
@@timberlinegoldprospecting2358 I live in Missouri and mostly only get to fish locally, but I try to get a trip out west once a year. I misspoke though, it was actually July 2022 when I was there last. And yes we caught the tail end of the salmon flies. Pretty epic fishing when those are out. I’ve got 3 videos uploaded from that trip for each day, and likely you’d recognize the sections of water we fished. That particular cutty was on the 3rd day we were there from an awesome riffle.
SUB
It looks like this was Little Piney. Do you use a weighted bead on the wooly bugger?
Yes, I was using a black bead headed one with some crystal flash in it.
Great video! I like the way you put up what you used for each trout you caught. I would like to know what size flies you used. Thank!!
Thanks a lot and glad you enjoyed it! The elk hair caddis was size 18, the stonefly nymph was size 8, and the wooly bugger was size 10.
For as low and clear as it is, you caught some decent size fished! Nice Job!
Thanks again!
Sure everyone always wants to catch LARGE fish, but like you, ANY trout anywhere is beautiful. Love that stream, plan on hitting it this weekend and then spend a few extra long days maybe 1st week of Oct. This year has moved by so fast, really want to finish out the warmer weather and easier access to that stream before end of Oct. Thanks for the video, well done! Tight lines!
Thank you so much, and agreed that any trout is a good trout! The water is low and clear right now, and there are lots of fish in the slow deep pools but they are spooking so easily! So I mainly focused on the riffled water and had good success. More videos coming soon, and tight lines as well!
Nice video. Is the name of the river the Current River? Wherever it is, it’s beautiful. The rocks, the chalkiness of the water makes me think it’s VA, WV, TN, KY, maybe Northern GA. Reminds me of my home river back in CT.
Thanks a lot! It is actually called the Current River, and it’s in the southern half of Missouri. It’s in an area called the Ozark Plateau that has some unique topography and lots of springs. It’s one river of many similar to it there, you should come check it out sometime. The Eleven Point River is also awesome.
