This guy makes me want to buy a brompton
@@matthewmurray4830 hi Matthew, glad you got interested :) the more cyclists there are on the road - the better both for cyclists and non-cyclists as well )) and good thing about Brompton (and frankly any other folding bikes) - that they allow to overcome lots of complexities of cycling in the city, like storage space, multimodal commute and so on.
Really ??, I can put my normal bike on all public transport like metro, train and ferry except buses in Australia all the time.
@@erictang4798 hi Eric, thanks for your comment! Well, in theory you can do the same in the UK as well. However when talking about commute specifically - there are some challenges. In London you can’t bring full size bike on the tube during the rush hours (unlike the folding bike, which is allowed anytime). Plus, trains are usually quite packed during the morning and evening rush hours, so in most of the cases squeezing in a full size bike will not be realistic. However with the folded Brompton - if you can get into the train, it is almost certain it will be possible to find a corner for the folded bike as well. To give you very tangible example, when me or my wife are doing our nursery run, in most of the cases there is not enough space to bring a pram into the train, so we have to fold it before even trying to get into the train. Buses is also a good point, looks like the rules in the UK are the same as in Australia on that front. So overall, during the off peak hours or on the weekend - travelling via public transport via regular bike should be fine, but in most of the other cases - it might not be a feasible thing to do on the regular basis.
thank you for your video. Was hoping to get a trailer to use as a large cat carrier but sadly I notice that the base of the trailer goes down which would make it uncomfortable for my cat. I assume the 16" wheels of the Brompton are the reason....
@@carolinepaige217 Hi Caroline, thanks for your comment! There are two potential solutions I can think about - a) you can mount the clamp, connecting bike and the trailer upwards rather than downwards. Didn’t do it myself tbh, but couple of other guys commented that they did it with their Bromptons and trailers and it worked perfectly fine. And it seems quite realistic, based on my experience as well. This way the trailer will be more upwards, so most likely will be more comfortable for your cat. B) Burley has 2 trailers specifically designed for pets, don’t know much about them tbh, but assume they should be more comfortable for a cat or have any specific features to help transporting pets: burley.com/en-in/collections/pet-bike-trailers
We are kindred spirits. I have most of these :)
I love the fabric handlebar bottle cage so much that I have 2 on my touring bike (mounted along the top tube facing opposite directions) and one on my Brompton mounted the way you described. And then recently bought 4 more as Christmas stocking stuffers. I carry snacks, tissues, bear spray (riding across Montana....) and my phone in mine. Absolutely a great product and so inexpensive.
Love my Brompton.
Thanks for your comment, likewise :)

Awww the socialist elites have found their premium brand. Funny how they dont buy less expensive bikes and donate the difference to the poor countries that their ancestors pillaged? The socialists must have their luxury bikes 😂😂😂 Hypocrite
great video! The thing that keeps me from getting a folding bike, aside from not being rich to have a lot of bikes, is that I wonder how does it fare to ride hills, 'cos there are a lot of steep hills in the mountainous region I live. I don't like in the UK but any similar folding bike should do, but again, I am not sure if they are for me if the gearing is limited to go uphill. My dream folding bike would be one that could be fast on the flat and downhill and great to ascend hills too. But I am not sure it exists, I've never had a folding bike
@@xosece thanks a lot for your comment :) Hills is indeed a tricky bit on the folding bike, I wouldn’t say it’s too bad, but can definitely push the heart rate quite a bit. Two potential solutions I guess is either to extend the range of gearing - there is now 12-gear P-line available, with both more range for faster gears and slower ones, that should help with hills, plan to upgrade my classic 4-speed P-line into 12-gears at some point. Another option is to try electric Brompton. It is even more expensive unfortunately, but helps with hills quite a bit, plus good for commuting overall if there is no shower available at the destination.
check out hornback bikes from india.
@ thanks for sharing, they look pretty cool indeed ))
I bought a P Line. It’s now sub 10k. I am not going to spend the recommended 400 pounds you suggest to to increase its weight and the opposite to y bank balance! I am perfectly happy with my new baby. Oh, and i have a 6 Speed Black edition at 11 kilos after some adjustments! Brooks saddles take some time to wear in but the Fis: ik version and standard Brompton saddles are just fine. A Brooks saddle is a status thing. Absolutely not necessary.
@@richmck007 100% with you, bike is pretty good right from the shop. Everything else either just adds some additional utility or makes it a bit more comfortable. For me handlebars probably was the item that added the most of comfort. Plus I’ve also started using crazy Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres, had only one puncture in 18+ months of active use, super happy with those. All of these however add quite a bit of weight to the bike.
If you really have a need for a folding bike, NOTHING is going to come close to the size it will fold to. If you have no place (apartment) to store it. You can take it on a bus when the bike rack is full. I use it on my sailboat because there really isn’t anyplace to store a full sized bike. Flying with a bike is a nightmare, I’ve done it. Flying with a bike that will fit in a suitcase would have been so much easier. Transporting a bicycle sized box or bag to the airport is a bit of a hassle. Carrying a bicycle in the grocery cart is much more relaxing than wondering if your bike was stolen while you’re inside. If you’re concerned about carrying stuff, I just use a backpack, don’t stock up with a lot of stuff at once anyways. I can use my pannier bags if I need to carry more stuff.
@@david78212 100% with you, this is exactly my thought process, hence I live the bike so much. Flying is a bit clunky, as you need to do a bit of assembly / disassembly, but still well worth the trade off of finding or renting a bike wherever you are flying to. I’ve seen a video where the guy attached a bag to a bike like a trailer, while cycling to the airport, then folded the bike into it in the airport and checked it in for the flight, sounds like an ultimate travel hack to me :) And grocery shopping with Brompton is so good, I’ve saved so much time and money with it over the last couple of years! A combo of backpack, front bag and a big reusable cloth bag, that I fixate with bungee to the rear rag pretty much gives enough volume for a solid grocery run for entire family. With panniers - do you remove the bag when you roll the bike in the btw? Always wanted to try one of those :)
omg I was about to spend around 50euros for the small bags. You saved my money 😂 Thank you for sharing the cool tips!!!
@@nickelpot sure, my pleasure, thanks for your comment :) all the best with you Brompton cycling adventures :)
I bought aluminum frame brompton from Ali It weighs eight kilograms I'm going to use lightweight parts to reduce it further The price is 1000 dollars
@@lovehug78 sounds good, all the best with your cycling adventures :)
Hi Stas.. Planning on traveling with my P line . I have the Dimpa bag but what would you suggest as cushioning to wrap around the bike to minimize damage from the bike being tossed around in the plane's cargo hold?
@@kzarz0219 hello, to be honest I don’t think that even with a bit cushioning Dimpa will protect bike enough in cargo hold. Ideally you want a hard shell bag for that, like B&W Brompton Bag or anything similar. Dimpa would be good though if you want to toss the bike in the car trunk, to make sure nothing rubs against it or doesn’t get stained with oil, I also usually try to put some sort of rug or picnic blanket around it to give it a bit more protection. But wouldn’t recommend flying only with Dimpa, if you plan to check in your bike.
I solved the price and gearing issues by simply buying a superior Chinese clone for one third of the price for a Brompton. I admire the genius of it but certainly not the outrageous pricing. 😂
@@albertstufkens4844 hi Albert, thanks for your comment. If you don’t mind sharing - how is your experience with the clone so far?
@@staskucherenkoI sold my old 3s Brompton for €650 and bought a more modern 9s Chinese clone for €565. When I received it I found that it surpassed my expectations: lighter, technically more advanced, marvellous braking, a gem. Of course, I do not want to use it for 20 years before making any comments on the quality. That is futile.😅
I'm also getting one! I can save 10 minutes by using my car to school
@@unexperienced-t2w sounds great, thanks for sharing, all the best with your Brompton cycling adventures ))
Price tag is definitely a con. A major one
@@OlBoris that’s a very fair point. I guess the question is whether the pros associated with it are strong enough to justify the price given specific situation and circumstances of each individual cyclist
It comes with a large Brompton price too.
@@Jay-qq7so that’s very true indeed :)
I find a carrier bag works very well just as good as a small back pack and costs next to nothing. It also folds up so small that you can put an elastic band on it and put it in your pocket.

Wasn’t the Sladda belt supplier the problem? They could’ve just gone with a higher quality spec belt.
@@gfabie4901 true, I think the belt was the main issue that doomed Sladda. On the quality of the belt - that’s a fair point. I don’t know enough from the mechanical engineering to say whether sturdier belt could have solved it, or there was some structural issue with the bike tbh, but sounds reasonable. More testing would have been also helpful to identify this issue early enough.

Bromptons would make a great travel bike as you are suggesting, so I am rethinking adding one to my stable again :D
How nice to see helpful items for the Brompton that are easily affordable! Thanks for making this video!
@@ADayInTheLifeofLori thanks, glad it was helpful ))
These bikes are poorly put together wastes of metal, only thing “premium” about these bikes are its price lol
@@Avo4929 thanks for sharing! I wouldn’t necessarily agree to be honest, quite happy with the quality of my P-line, but there is of course a spectrum of experiences and views on that front.
Try before you buy . They can be rented Out for a month . I’ll do the same . I do a 30 mile round trip on the decathlon folding bike and it’s been ok . Had to upgrade the saddle and addded a phone mount only
@@salahaddin2009 good point, thanks for flagging. There is indeed renting service for Bromptons with a dedicated app, tried it couple of times, works pretty well, and even cheaper than regular public bike rentals
3 step fold is the main selling advantage not a con in my opinion. You list it as a con.
@@emmanouilbagiartakis6689 agree with your point, I would say it is kind of both. It helps with portability a lot, plus the design for it is really brilliant, but it increases mechanical complexity of the bike and adds few more points of potential failure and maintenance. But overall agree, it is much more of a defining feature and major advantage of the bike, rather than anything else
Uber Taiwan👍
20-30 miles on a Brompton? You are more bike than man
@@leighsherval1023 looooool, thanks a lot :) this reminds me a Gino D’Acampo with his legendary “if my grandma would have wheels - she would have been a bike” :)
Pros; it’s kind of neat. Cons; it’s 3 times more expensive than it should be.
@@falconreconeight well, I wouldn’t necessarily disagree, but it is very neat though :)
It’s built in London not just assembled so worker earn a decent wage! They could have followed other companies and moved production to Taiwan or China but they chose to keep true to their values unlike the 50 other bike brands including the top ones.
@@ArslanAndArslan indeed, good point, all the steps and brazing are done at Greenford factory, so even more impressive!
It only carries 110kg not for heavy riders likeme
Great video! Very helpful. I think girls really like such walks❤

How abou people with c line? how can you attach a trailer
@@gdlerner Hi Gerardo, thanks for your comment. I am almost certain it will work in a similar way, to the best of my knowledge rear axle for C-line looks pretty much the same as for P-line, so same kind of setup should work as well.
@@staskucherenko but I don t habe a QR on my brompton
@@gdlernerthat’s fine, neither do I on the P-line. the default skewer is not a QR, with regular nuts on both ends. The one I’ve used in the video is from Hope - brilliantbikes.co.uk/quick-release/4358-hope-road-130mm-quick-release-rear-skewer-black.html?search_query=Hope+Road+130mm+Quick+Release+Rear+Skewer+-+Black%09+&results=3178 I’ve bought it separately for the whole setup with the trailer. QR doesn’t really matter here tbh, it’s more the length of the skewer, to give enough room for the hitch.
Btw, looks like I might be wrong with my previous comments here. Did some research and it looks like with Sturmey Archer hub for a 6-speed C-line it might look slightly different after all. Will get back to you later today on that front, need to check couple of other points first.
So it looks like that for C-line you don’t event need a new axle - found this video on Brilliant Bikes, where they attach Thule Chariot to C-line with Sturmey Archer hub, and the hitch just bolts on fine - ua-cam.com/video/tvBA1K8oFmQ/v-deo.htmlsi=uAZK0SkHFSG0z47q
Great video❤
