First flight of the 3D printed Saab Draken which is based on my 3D printed 50mm edf J35 Saab Draken. The Model is 2m long and weights 4.3 kg without fuel. A Kingtech K45G4 jet turbine powers the Draken model. Fun fact: At full throttle the turbine spins at almost 4000 revolutions per second!!! That is 232.000 revolutions per minute!!! The fuel tank holds 0.8 liters of fuel and should provide 6-...

I tested the Starfighter with a 85% FSA EDF exhaust duct. The previous flights were done with a 100% FSA duct. FSA is the Fan Swept Area of the EDF and by reducing the diameter of the exhaust duct, the speed of the exiting air will increase giving the model a higher top speed. However the amount of thrust will decrease making launches and vertical maneauvers a challenge. It’s all about finding ...

Had a very successful maiden flight with prototype #2 of the F-104 Starfighter. On an exceptionally beautiful danish summer evening the Starfighter took to the sky and performed incredibly well. Together the tiny stubby wings and the long slender fuselage provided plenty of lift and the new Xfly 50mm EDF gave the model lots of speed. Right now the exhaust is 100% of the FSA (Fan Swept Area) so ...

    CG of the 104 is close to the leading edge of the wingroot. 50% of the lift comes from the fuselage and the rear side of the canopy causes a low pressure that produces also lift in the front that brings the CG forward. On the TF-104 CG is a bit more in the rear, because the canopy is longer.

    • @michaelghammer
      @michaelghammer 3 місяці тому

      I’m aware of the fuselage producing a lot of lift. But I didn’t know that the canopy in particular contributed to the lift. Interesting. I will do a TF-104 version in the future and it will be interesting to see if it affects the CG of the model as on the real TF-104

    • @AcroAirwolf
      @AcroAirwolf 3 місяці тому

      @@michaelghammer It will be the same, size does not matter in aerodyanmic stability. I have both TF- and F-104, both have a length of 1 m (without pitot tube), CG of the TF is 28 mm behind the wingroot, CG of the single seater is 8 mm behind the wingroot.

    • @michaelghammer
      @michaelghammer 3 місяці тому

      @AcroAirwolf I know. A simple scale chuck glider of an Airbus 380 will have the same CG as the real thing.

    • @AcroAirwolf
      @AcroAirwolf 3 місяці тому

      @@michaelghammer A simple way to estimate the postion of the CG is to check the position of the main landing gear of the real one. When you have a plane with nose wheel it´s right in front of the main landing gear. The distance between CG and main landing be can´t be large, because the aerodynamic forces of the elevator will not be able to rotate it, when the distance is too large.
