what total power consumption with watt meter?
Toward the end of the video I have the power consumption.
@@handmedowntechi have bought a watt meter, i tested my mini pc overall power consumption is different from processor power consumption
Greater or less?
@@handmedowntech greater, because i use too much ram and ssd at heavy load
Do you intend to use it for hard core stuff or casual surfing?
I can confirm that Windows 11 does run on a HP EliteBook G1. And It wasn't needed to update to TPM. I did have to switch the bios to UEFI (it was using legacy bios mode). Most things seem to be working just fine, but the AMD video drivers wasn't installed. When I tried to install that, it fried the system, and I had to reinstall W11. So I left it uninstalled, I wasn't using it anyway :) More important; the Gobi cellular card works fine. Thanks for the video, I learned a few things :)
Interesting, is the gobi card allow for 4g connections to a cellular network?
@@handmedowntech I would think so, but I'm not a network expert :) The laptop needs a sim card, and you can then just switch on a cellar network, similarly too Wi-Fi.
interesting thingy, never heard of these are there any with PCIe ports to put a gpu in? maybe some pcie x4 x8 could be repurpoused or converted since it has many m2 slots
The G4 and G5 have an optional GPU but the performance is not great. ua-cam.com/video/2846Pt6I-gM/v-deo.htmlsi=sE5QHUxv_GZ2lYwz is a video from the Toasty Bros. Other folks have used M.2 to PCIe as adapters to add a GPU but you need to leave the top off and get additional power.
A £29 G3 barebone with leftover CPU and memory is the way to go
Great video. Very interesting. And the more I watch your videos, the more I tell myself that I can't wait for you to buy a G6 so that we can make beautiful videos on it. Keep up your videos, they are very informative.
Thanks! Ah yes - the elusive G6 - hoping to find one at a good price soon.
do not bid on a single thing on ebay unless the auction is below 1 hour. i've dealt with this for a long time also it best to build your own pc unless you discover a lucky deal or if you have extra funds in your ebay account.
quisiera saber cuantas de esta tienen

Barebones can be tricky, I had one with bent cpu pins, but the price was low, and I just parted it out to what I needed for other units. Rather build with one with an included CPU that has been tested.
For me it's the cost of the CPU. That's why I stress the need to decide at the beginning which one you want to use and check the price.
A $29 G3 barebone with leftover CPU and memory is the way to go
I have to build up a cache of CPUs. Thinking of getting something cheap like i3s
Have you dont a hack and fit a 3.5 inch drive in a HP EliteDesk 800 mini? like get rid of the drive caddy and maybe use hot glue to secure i to the board or something? thanks.
Just tried laying a 3.5 inch into a G2 and unfortunately it's just a bit too wide and it hits the screws for the heat sink. If you keep the top off you could sort of lay it on top of the case edge and the heatsink screws.
@@handmedowntech Thanks, yea and I read after I asked that 3.5s need 12v anyway. 2.5s are a lot more expensive, unless you know of a good source for new ones?
I've done well with eBay used and also Amazon. They have been going up in price lately. I also stick with smaller sizes, less the 500gb. How large are you looking for?
@@handmedowntech 4-5 tb
I can see why you want to use the mechanical drives - you can get a 4TB HDD for next to nothing but a SATA SSD will require a small loan. Have you thought of using external USB drives? I actually have a backup NAS running on a G1 using two external 2TB drives - TrueNAS complains that I shouldn't do that but it has worked so far - I have a video on it too.
Rule of thumb is its always more expensive to buy the parts to build from barebones. There is also the issue of sourcing the correct antennas, if they are not already in the barebones. Another thing to consider with a CPUless machine, are bent pins in the CPU socket.
Been burnt on both. Thankfully not too big of a financial hit 😉
I'm a builder. I bought elitedesk barebone. I used my spare ddr4 and nvme. Still wait for the processor, an i7 with T processor. By the way, great video as always. Thank you for the video 🙏🙏
Very welcome. The EliteDesks make it easy to have that choice to build it up from the bare mobo.
The HP G1 supports intel Xeon such as E3 1275L V3 is a better choice than I7 6700T supported by G2
Have you tried using the Xeon with the G1?
Worked for me: HP ProDesk 600 G4 using the Proxmox Shell Commands. Thanks you very much!
You're welcome!
i was wondering this a couple weeks ago, thanks for covering the difference
Glad it helped.
Could I install i7-9700 into HP Elitedesk 800 G4 SFF ?
"Officially" the highest processor for the G4 SFF would be the i7-8700 of i7-8700K but since the G4 and G5 are basically the same computer (at least for the Mini - but it looks like the SFF copies the trend) you "should" be able to use the i7-9700 BUT I wouldn't risk too much money in case it doesn't work. Do you need the extra cores (6 core for 8700 vs 8 for 9700)? I've been able to get a 9500T to work in a G4 (like the video) but I've also tried a 9700K and failed. The difference is that the 9500 is 6 core vs 8 for the 9700s. Not sure if that was what caused it to fail.

hdd fan review how to work
Good idea - I will add that to the list.
i have a 800 G4 35w hdd fan power on then work 10 sc how hdd fan control
I tried using speedfan and others to control the fan and they just don't show up. I checked on reddit and other places and everyone seems to say that the HP fan controls are proprietary.
i've been enjoying your videos as I actually ordered a s206 dm 8gb 240gb nvme an i5 7500 for £46 ("60 ish US) as it was cheaper than a raspberry pi and all it will be doing is running HomeAssistant OS, I also bought a G3 800 which turned up today and came with a 95w psu which I will buy a normal 65w for it, Its super clean and super quiet was hoping it had a single stick of 8gb as I already have one here ready to use. So glad I bought these after seeing how well they run.
I went through much the same thing when I wanted to get into VMs and mini computers - the PI was actuallly pretty expensive and when I saw these HPs I thought "I'm getting a great deal"!

when I extract the Win10PE SE files I don't get executable files like you do. They remain the same. What could be the problem?
Around about where in the video? I'm a bit fuzzy since it's been a while since I made the video.
@@handmedowntech yes that’s where I was getting the Win10PE SE files. I ended up having to find them somewhere else. Extracting them didn’t do anything. However, there were two downloads available. A gz tar file or something
So you're saying the files in the archives are not runnable? I may have to go through the steps to see if anything stopped working.
That's interesting the ProDesk G3 seems to have taken a step back. I have a ProDesk G2 and it has a USB-C on the front and two DisplayPorts on the back.
Is it possible you have a ProDesk 600 G2 vs the 400?
@@handmedowntechIt is a 600! I forgot there was a lower 400 tier. So is the 600 basically the 800 with less warranty?
600 and 800 are really close. The 800 had vpro remote connections. Also the 800 could have non T processors. Not sure on the warranty. My guess is that it was also 3 years.
Longer warranty = "more care". It's market segmentation. Nothing more, nothing less. Enterprise and education leases on computers are typically 3 years. SMB prioritizes cost over warranty. They both came off the same assembly lines using the same major components made by the same people.
It does help to convince corporate buyers that their investment is protected for 3 years. And obviously we're still using ProDesk 400s years after their supposed "expiration date".
I think you can go to 64 gig ram
I wouldn't be surprised if it did. I just haven't had that much memory around to test it out 😉
i own pro 400 and i have 128g ram installed
Dang!! In a ProDesk 400? Which model?
@@handmedowntech yes pro 400 model.but i know also models are artificially limited by bios how much ram u can install.

Nice, at first I thought it was a Smoke Alarm, then one of those fancy mesh wifi units :) Looks like they were trying to steal some of that Apple thunder. People are giving different items you can look into. Have you thought about the intel nucs? those are something that I find interesting.
The nucs were my early inspiration to get into the mini PCs. I'm just surprised at the different directions HP has tried with their minis.
@@handmedowntech cool, I just noticed they were inexpensive on the used market.
Any particular model?
Have you seen the HP Elite Slice?
Is that the one for conferencing or is that the one that is the newer retail HP? I see it now on eBay - might be one to consider getting.
It has boll of cereal vibes , over all neat little HP , im guessing a 3.5 hhd drive wont fit in there correct ?

Which NAS sofware are you using?
Would you happen to have a post or video showing the plugs on the bottoms of these boards? I have a G5 with a v1 vga io card, and when I popped it out to see what was underneath, I found an unused socket labeled tbt/fiber. I haven't been able to find out if there's an option thunderbolt yet or not as HP's documentation is confusing and differs in places.
I had never noticed that before - my G4 says "TBTcard" on the motherboard. The Thunderbolt youre' looking for is Part Number 3TK77AA HP Thunderbolt 3.0 Port Flex IO. Check out h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=c06042607 - Let me know if you end up getting one and how it worked out.
They are great units...I have three ones...windows 11 and linux...
They really set the stage for the following units. Beware, they are addicting and crave more of their kind 😉
Finally got 800 g4 65watt and come with no processor. So, will it run with i5 9400 with 90 watt power adapter?
That combo should work. You can also get a T processor.
@@handmedowntech thanks, I will try with i3-9100T and i5-9400 and update the result later. 👍
@@handmedowntech, I got a question from my friend here, Sir. He has 800G4 35 watt with 65watt adaptor. He also has 90watt adaptor. If he put non-T processor in 800G4 (i3-8100) and use 90watt adaptor, should it work?
Yes. Just need to check the thermals since it has the aluminum heatsink, non vented case, and single fan. In my one video I didn't see a big change using the copper heatsink but I was using a T processor for comparison.
@@handmedowntech hi, do you have name for flexible sata cable to connect ssd sata to sata port on motherboard elitedesk 800? My friend's cable seem tear a bit.
strange enough, i had one 4gb module, showing in BIOS, looks like OK, 4Gb, but if you hit MEMORY TEST, it returned long HP error code, and if you load windows, it works, but after while message will popup saying something about memory. So definitely good idea to test memory first inside BIOS from Diagnostic menu, and then from windows itself, for example Mdsched.exe in 10. It will take about 20 min for both tests, but will assure memory is good. good video !
I had a stick of RAM once that made the fan go and incredible speeds and had to pull the plug. I thought the unit didn't like the RAM, turned out to just be bad. Thanks for tuning in!

what a pain... to put those wires back on card. and of course card i got, was with different newer connector. is 8265ngw would be latest to work with G1? thank you
That's what I try to put in my units. I just never have good luck putting those connectors on and sometimes they're a little bent so it makes it tough to get a good "snap".

But then you don't get the 4ft CPU on your 65 inch TV 😉
i have a question, can i put regular pc cooler in the elitedesk mini without the case on? does it have screw hole for regular pc cooler?
Unfortunately the screw layout is proprietary for HP's own heatsink.
Just picked up one of these. Love what it can do. Ran Windows 11 just fine, just to test. Runs 10 Pro fine. It's going to be a great office PC.
They are great - you're getting a $1000 PC for peanuts and it still runs perfect.
Optane is GOLD, but what you show in video only supported up to Z590 M2 16/32/64gb. Buy 900/905/4800/5800 disk and use them as cache on all new platforms with Primocache and you will have same results !.

My system came without wi-fi from ebay, despite it was on sale picture, and looks like not just card, wires & antenna & clips missing too. they give me $30 off, now question is it kit avail to buy to have wi-fi installed, all i see just a card only, can it work with card only without wiring (to install them whole motherboard need to come off)? or i will have to use as my backup desktop with ethernet only (i dont like wi-fi anyway), what you recommend, thank you! also, back to video "Find that Windows Key on an EliteDesk 800 G1-G5 Mini", unfortunately comments disabled there, very nice to get original oem key, most of people would not know about this, my was 8.1, so instead to reinstalling 8.1 and hoping for *free* upgrade to windows 10, i installed windows 10 first, and then clicked on change key and enter that 8.1 oem key, and it works and upgraded automatically to windows 10 ! just in case somebody will need it.
Thank you for letting me know the comments for the one video were off - they have been turned back on. I believe all the rest should have them on but please let me know if you find another one. Now as far as the wifi is concerned. You pretty much need the antennae to get a decent connection. For most of the HP models adding the antennae wires is not trivial - you have to remove the motherboard to string the wires. The only thing it buys you is the bluetooth if you want to use it for mouse/keyboard. I myself just use one of those dongles that controls both a keyboard and mouse. If you really don't need wifi I wouldn't sweat it.
@@handmedowntech ok, thank you for advise !
