    I am not French but shamefull how they misrepresented the froggies: it was their zouaves that climbed the cliffs where the RUssian thought nobody could, and managed to turn the flank of that strong defensive position. Saint Arnaud was indeed diying of cancer but not on that day. Well represented is the chance missed to avoid the siege entirely: the Russian were routed and instead of chasing and ride stiafght ino Sebastopol, they let them recover, because the allied commander had already assumed a siege was needed.

      Bpth the French and the British attacked and took strong defensive positions but the british took more casaulties in the battle, not showing the french is nott he same as misrepresnting what they where up to.

    It shows the useless Officer Class that bought their Commision’s with no prior military experience and who hated the common soldier.

      That isn't how the purchasing system worked you couldn't simply buy a commission and to go up the ranks required a set amount of time at each rank as well, raglan had been a soldier since 1805 for example and fought in many of the battles in Portugal, Spai nand france that Wellington's army fought.

      Where the British won almost every single war... Also this was an extreme case where some genius put 2 people who despised each other in command of half of the cavalry each which caused a lot of problems o nits own.

    My ancestor was in this battle. He was in the 15th Kings Hussars, as was my grandfather in India in 1890. The first one survived by being trapped under the body of his horse. 600 men charged the Russian Army. So, today this area is in Ukraine, while the Russians claim the Crimea is Russian.

    What I don't understand is how the whole Labor Day was not wiped out to the last man I said it was a great military blender but I find it a miracle that the only lost 160 men and another one of England's greatest blunders thinking that money equals intelligence in that class in reality they got it backwards the more noble you are the more ignorant you are

    • @Delogros
      @Delogros 4 місяці тому

      "the more noble you are the more ignorant you are" That bit certainly isn't true, imagine thinking you can write off everyone from a paticular group based solely on their birth and "Nobles" by dint of being noble where some of the best educated people as a rsult. As for the purchasing system which is what I assume you're talking about you realise it stil had compulsary time at each rank yes? So even if you purchase your way up the ranks you still have to spend years learning the trade... The problem became curroption where people who should ahve been denied the right to go further then their competancy where not being denied due to a long peace like they used to be.

    Russian smoothbore muskets were no match for the British Pattern 1851 Minié rifled muskets - later the P53 which along with the Springfield M 61 saw much use in the A.C.W. There both sides were armed with rifled muskets hence the awful carnage at Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Spotsylvania and a host of other bloody encounters. The Crimean War, however, was shameful for lack of concern regarding soldiers (wounded men in particular), sanitation and provisions. Despite Britain having the world’s largest navy, battle casualties paled compared with the death and suffering by caused by gross military logistical muddle and incompetence.

      Having said all that it one may observe, in mitigation, that the French and British were better dressed than the Russians and marched into battle with better music.

    What a brilliant anti-war movie...shows the pure stupidity of war, and the pomp and "Glory" that is conjured up to perpetuate it. As a life long military man I can say that there is no glory in war, its just a stupid way to get homo-sapiens to kill one another, for old rich people to control others to their deaths as they march across a chess board.
