Wild Capsicum Hybrid : C.rabenii x C.tovarii
During 2022 I performed a manual interspecific cross in an attempt to hybridise two wild Capsicum species, C.rabenii and C.tovarii. I successfully grew F1 hybrid plants during 2023 from this cross.
It's not easy to find documentation or example photos for this hybrid. This video provides photos of my plants as a reference for the wider community.

Three species interspecific F1
Переглядів 269Рік тому
Three species interspecific F1 C.pubescens x (C.eximium x C.cardenasii) Results from the initial stage of a three way crossing project (X063) that incorporates two wild capsicum species. In the F1, flavour was predominately similar to the C.pubescens although it seemed to have a slight hit up front before giving the normal long, warming, C.pubescens burn. I’m not good at guessing SHU levels but...
Capsicum flexuosum : Possible Chimera Or Sport?
Переглядів 344Рік тому
Capsicum flexuosum : Possible Chimera Or Sport? This Capsicum flexuosum plant lived outside all winter and went through several freeze and thaw cycles. Whilst most new growth is normal, there is an area that is showing variegation on the foliage, the buds and stems. This might be what is known as a chimera, or sport, where this region of the plant has mutated to give different genetics. It is t...

Random Aerogarden Power Cycle Fault? Try This Workaround
Переглядів 812 роки тому
There is a common fault that can develop on Aerogarden Bounty hydroponic growing systems. This results in the Aerogarden resetting itself, resetting the clock to 0:00 and for most people causing the lights to go out when unattended. In some cases this is a genuine fault with the unit, in other cases it may just be that your power source has some issues that the Aerogarden is sensitive to. This ...

A Journey Into Chilli Pepper Crossing (Episode 1)
I’m looking at an aerogarden, nice to know a fix for a potential issue. Wonder if one could automate the reset through an arduino or something. Cheers!
What did they taste like, any good?
Maybe water source?
How did the next generation come out?
Very unique! I like this
Great work and detailed notes. Looking foward to seeing more hybrids from you
Love this project! Keep up the good work!
Super helpful videos!! Add a voice over and a little bit of editing and I think this can be one of the top pepper UA-cam channels
Magnifique mon ami ❤
there needs to be more educational videos like this
Well done, amazing!
That pubescense.... gorgeous.
Very cool!
Another video! Im eating good tonight!
Vero good work 👍
Here I go jamming again! 🎶🎶
The yellow and peach ones with stripes 😍🤩😍🤩 Do you sell seeds?
Thats pretty neat! Its kind of confusing now that all pretermissums are rabenii 😆
Beautiful
love it <3
excited to see how this one turns out. see you at f7 lol.
Great to start seeing updates on this generation! Very cool looking pepper!
Thanks & stop making me grow more plants.
you found the mutation, very nice!
Sure did and hopefully mixed in everything else needed for multiple colourways. Nice corolla too, lots of pics on THP thehotpepper.com/threads/chillicrosser-crosses.74905/post-1773203
whatever you do, sow tons of them...ratio is low even at f3/f4@@ChilliCrosser
That is a very striking looking one! And an interesting hybrid to boot... How does it taste?
Rabenii with crunchy messes with my senses, too used to rabenii with a soft, juicy, seed laden pod. Best attempt is rabenii flavours but softened with classic baccatum and a way longer burn than expected. I'd guess 20k SHU or something.
@@ChilliCrosser Nice! Thanks for the details...
Keep up the excellent work! Looking forward to seeing your projects, both continued and new!
Welcom back😊.
Wow this is really cool! I've been wanting to do something similar with C.pubescens for a while now but haven't gotten around to it. I know that C.cardenasii has self-incompatability, so i'm wondering if that trait carried on in the initial C.eximium x C.cardenasii cross as well as this three way cross or if it is became self-compatible. I'm also wondering about the heat and flavor profile. Does it have that typical "long burn" of C.pubescens? Was it sweet? How hot was it? Sorry about all the questions but, what variety of C.pubescens did you use for the cross? And finally, which traits are you going to be selecting for when you take this cross down the generations? Even if you can't answer all of these i appreciate the time and effort put in to this project 😊
Looks very cool! I have some questions for you , would like to get in touch with you offline or another platform . It's about some of your hybrids 👍
I'm on all the platforms listed in the description.
@@ChilliCrosser I sent you a message on the hot pepper
Seems promising , snip snip or air layering , happy times . So cool , ty for sharing ❤
Interesting! Thank you for sharing...
PLEASE don't stop, seen some awesome chilli creators recently stop end of 2022, but your content is awesome! It takes time trust me as a fellow creator!
Thank you ChilliCrosser. You do inspiring work.😀
It was a great year , looking forward to seeing what 2023 has in store for you . I'm going to continue watching your videos and making some very interesting hybrids
Great video! I bought only 3 isolated varieties this season. Main purpose was for crossing projects. 7 Pot Original, 7 Pot Primo and 7 Pot BBG
It has been a pleasure watching your progress this year. Looking forward to seeing the results from 2023, good luck! 🌟
You have some nice yellows and oranges that would be worth continuing. Nice job.
Thanks for the update, loved all the detailed pictures.
Thanks. Glad you liked all the photos, I know there were lots but I wanted to give people a real-world example of variation. Always hard to find such examples for a larger grow out.
Great work, personally love the yellow with slightly darker yellow stripes. Subtle but great looking.
Great work ! If You need a indoor grower for selection breeding leme know ;)
Man! I wish I could get some seeds from plant 21. That is amazing looking.
Well done, looks like a lot of variations that would be well worth continuing.
Killed it with this one! Showing the real work. Love it. Sibling cross 83 to any of those around the 102!
Thanks! You're right, lots of hidden hard work but you've gotta grow them to find them. 83 was a strange plant, instability at its best. Definitely some sibling cross opportunities at some point. Lots of options over and above the main starfish target.
Very nice!! So many great phenos to choose from!! Really like line A plant 21!
Nice side benefit from the main project goal for sure.
Nice work! The light yellow with peach stripes are my favourites.
Beautiful work, this is truly amazing. What is your personal favorite from Line A? So many 25, 34, 50, 50 and wow the white peppers have me speechless! Line D favorite has to be 7. Looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks. More work next year.
To enhance that striping effect I suggest you get the fish pepper involved!
Not really needed. Fish peppers don't retain stripes when ripe, don't taste that great and are a C.annuum so don't play well with C.baccatum.
This is super interesting. How has the progress come around in the last few months?
The end of my outdoor growing season is almost here. I'll be doing another episode shortly afterwards, once I've harvested and collated what I have.
@@ChilliCrosser great, looking forward to the video : ), I've got a few kool peppers growing, may decide to cross those thanks to you. Also, what's happening with the octopus phenotype pepper.
@@unspeakablyawesomebros3392 Grew some more next gen plants for it this year, only 7 as not a main project. Have one candidate to take forward next year but will likely keep regrowing last gen as well to try and find the best shape.
@@ChilliCrosser nice, looking forward to all ur results.
Can hardly wait till this hybrid is released, do you have any new videos coming out soon?
Soon-ish, the next one will be a big update covering the F2 grow out on a couple of breeding lines, lots of plants. The outdoor grow season is still going here, just about. I'm aiming to get something ripe from as many plants as I can before the weather ends it. Update video will be out a week or so after that happens. Mid-October and growing outdoors in the UK, so won't be long until frosts!
You've got some interesting results! Looking forward to your next update....thanks for sharing!!!!
Heck yes. Keep up the great work.
Trying hard :-)
