Am I the only one wondering how Elphaba bathes if she can’t get wet?
They talk about it in the book she uses oils to clean herself
@ Thank you!
So thorough thank you❤
Jokes on all of them though. Margaret Hamilton did an amazing job at playing the witch and, ironically, the "less desirable" witch became the epitome of this character and made her memorable! ❤
cool video.
I will always stop for a wicked video. My new obsession 🎀💚
Taye Diggs is actually Idina Menzel's ex husband as they divorced in 2014. I think they're still on good terms.
Your right, I should have worded that better and said "husband at the time" but I can tell you watched the video until the end, thank you!
Lore gets used too freely nowadays.
I saw the original production of Wicked in NYC. The positives were the voices of Kristin and Idina. I thought half of the songs were not that memorable. My favorites were Dancing Through Life, Popular, Defying Gravity, What is this Feeling? and my personal favorite The Wizard and I. The rest of the songs fell flat for me. The sets and costumes were terrific. The story was convoluted IMHO. I think the ongoing popularity of the musical has to do with people's affection for the Wizard of Oz. I did like Wicked when I saw it. Do I think it is a great musical such as A Chorus Line, Into the Woods or my personal favorite Sweeney Todd? No, but it is good, and I am thrilled that is continues to thrill audiences in New York, and around the world. I have yet to see the movie version of Wicked. I will wait until it comes out on streaming. Three hours for just act I seems a bit too long for me to sit in a movie theater. I really appreciated your video. I learned a lot!
I'm still at the beginning of this video and I'm definitely enjoying it and will watch til the end, but I did want to make a little side note regarding the transphobic stuff from the book as a trans person myself. I don't know for a fact if Gregory Maguire himself is transphobic, but I think it's important to note that just because someone is gay doesn't automatically mean they're supportive of trans people. There's a lot of transphobia that comes from LGB people as well, so while it's possible that it was just in poor taste due to being written in the 90s, it also doesn't completely eliminate the possibility that Maguire himself might have been transphobic. Again, I don't know for sure and I'm not trying to accuse him of anything, I'm just putting it out there that queer people are absolutely capable of transphobia as well. That's all I wanted to say though, great job on the video so far!
definitely, my roommate is trans and we discussed these same points. We both didn’t know what to make of the authors intentions were so they suggested I pass the question off to the audience
8:04 “she was deprived of a mothers love”
When the book came out, transgender as an identity was much less known and understood. The idea of a a gender transition was only seen by the wider public as something highly deviant. I think even a gay man at the time could unwittingly reproduce the cruelty of the era. Interestingly, the story shows how society literally scape goats underclasses-and the scapegoat du jour is transgender folks as a whole.
This video is so well done! Bravo! And thank you :)
This is an incredible comprehensive breakdown of the world of Oz. It is so well done! Thank you for this 💖💚
Perfect video to get reccomended after my third viewing of the movie today
I’ll watch any video that you upload! Always so thorough and you have the most pleasant voice! ❤
🎁
It's definitely possible for a gay man to be transphobic. I'm not sure if he actually is though...
great video!!! thanks!
So ready for this video 🔥
Wow, the book is SO DIFFERENT from the Broadway version. I personally like it more when something is improved/changed for the better. I feel like many live action Disney movies are literally trying to be the same as the animated version but there is no point to do that. Change and grow!
Actually the wicked from book to movie compares more to how Disney changes the Grimm brothers stories and turned them into kids movies. That’s the better analogy. The lesson here is : not always an edgier story is better. Recently everyone wants everything wants to be edgy and darker. Wicked the musical and Disney classics prove that is not Always the best way to go. Anyway Wicked stayed fairly dark way less than the novel but didn’t switch to something totally light and happy like let’s say the little mermaid.
I’m talking about how they made beautiful ANIMATED movies and then live action versions… not what you said.
This is actually so great T-T
The wizard of oz The wiz wicked thank you humans ❤
The wizard of oz is the wizard of oz thank you humanity
Thank you humans ❤❤❤❤❤
adaption and adaptation may seem similar, but they have distinct meanings and uses. Adaption is when something has been changed by its environment. Adaptation is changing or updating something to make it better or more functional in a different setting. I was curious so looked it up. To me it doesn't matter, I understand what is said
Yeah it’s not a matter of oh pronounce it how you want, it’s an entirely different word/meaning. If she’s ok with the meaning being misconstrued that’s ok but she should at least be aware of it
Happy birthday 🎂🎉
13:55 Judy Garland's eyes were small???
Happy birthday! Glad the algorithm brought me here ❤
Also I know actress Jenna Leigh Green gets type casted as the mean one but she was great as Nessarose and understudy for Elphaba
when the author had other kids books he had made sure he put an lgbtq resource he worked with in his biography. I was a teen when Wicked came out and when I saw his biography it was the first gay/trans resource I ever access to, other than news media on the AIDS epidemic.
Happy birthday! And thank you for this amazing video <3
Happy Birthday! 🎉
Hi! Tried to finish this video to post on my birthday it’s a couple days late but could you please like & comment as a present <3 Making this video was really fun & time consuming haha but I hope you enjoy it!
are the are other movies/musicals/art that you think would make an interesting lore video?
Happy Birthday ❤🎉🎂🎈
I would like to ask, quite seriously, whether someone needs another person's opinion to determine whether they will like an album? Does anyone really take seriously the opinion of some critic who gave the album a 1 out of 10 rating?
Judy garlan immortal ❤
Thank you ❤
It will always be a good movie ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The wizard of öz humanity ❤

I love this! I'm glowing for content like this. she's my favourite artist. she's said before in an interview that she's "okay w. being second place" (in reference to the newer pop girls coming onto the scene). she's definitely been a trendsetter, the quiet behind the scenes one. kinda like the 'nerdy' outcast kid that starts wearing something different, then the more popular kids start doing it lol. she was good friends w. David Bowie (r. I. p). & pure heroine changed 2010s, melodrama helped Jack find his sound (he stated this a few weeks ago), & solar power sound & aesthetic are definitely being used as inspiration as of late (SOS, radical optimism, endless summer vacation, etc). thanks for the video ❤️ edit : solar power is my favourite album as well. it's so different for her, & I just know it took a ton of nerve to release something that she mustve known from the jump was going to be divisive. but we love an artist who evolves & changes with us ❤️ love a girl who never does the same thing twice ❤️
i think you missed the point behind bitter lol
I think it's awesome okay
Watching this for the (I don’t even know how many) time. You did such a great job! Any plans to create one for Sabrina Carpenter? There would be a lot to cover.
can you put caption in portuguese - br? i NEED to see this video and understading everything!
Yay, a non-AI voiceover, gonna watch just because of that :D
Dorothy didn’t throw water at the WWW “in anger”, she threw the water to extinguish the Scarecrow who had been set on fire by the WWW.
Here is an excerpt from the Wonderful Wizard of Oz “This made Dorothy so very angry that she picked up the bucket of water that stood near and dashed it over the Witch, wetting her from head to foot.”
Both are correct. In the movie version, she did throw the water to extinguish the scarecrow, who's hay hay arm had caught flame, rather than she did it in anger.
