Ever wish you could time travel? I sure do! Since we can't do that in reality, why not set the table for a traditional Colonial era meal? What is your favorite time period in history?

We are in our third summer of what is now "extreme drought". For the first 2 months I watered frantically, but everything I watered died. I finally just gave up. Native plants (heliopsis, echinacea, Joe Pye Weed, black-eyed Susans and blue mist flower) did well without supplemental water. Japanese anemones are just blooming away. My newer daylilies all died, while the historic ones bloomed well.

That's a tough job. Good for you. I'm working on removing an older rose now and have clay soil. It's been challenging but I should be able to do it in stages.

The monthly table setting for June is to celebrate the 4th of July! Follow along for affordable, seasonal and festive table setting inspiration. For those in the U.S., happy Independence Day! For those outside of the U.S., you can substitute your own flag and colors for your patriotic celebrations!

My mom's peonies didn't bloom too many last year, but this year there were at least 15 blooms. I gave the roots extra room, and took back the barrier by a few inches. I added strawberries to the base for root cover, and I added extra soil, all in the fall. I added leaves from the willow tree and it bloomed so beautifully, I gave some flowers away. Taking the rose out and putting it in a separate container, don't throw it out. Wash it dish washing liquid, and add some egg shells and banana peel to the soil. Sometimes the area it grows is dry and depleted of nutrients. You soil might need some organic matter, the wood mulch is not allowing the soil to grow certain plants. You might need a small compost pile directly in the soil.

Beautiful garden! Do you know the name of the blue hydrangea? It is stunning! It reminds me of my mom's old fashion hydrangea and unfortunately I did not get cuttings from it when she passed away. I would love to get my hands on one. 💙
