Went to go see this movie on Christmas. The 🍇scene had people in my audience audibly going "HUH?". Match that with the time jump in the end and it definitely had me confused. The guy next to me just shook his head and left. Irregardless, give Guy Pierce the Oscar.
I don’t know how you’d leave at that point you’ve been there for like the majority of the film
Guess he wasn't in the mood for catchy 80s music 🤷♂️😂
in my eyes, directors are going to use AI now or later- doesn’t matter you’re not stopping it and he’s a neweř director. in my eyes if his objective is to make the best possible film ‘use all the tools in the toolbox’ don’t let a bad Hungarian accent keep you up if you can fix it because you feel like you have to die on a morale high ground that’ll be obsolete in 1/5 years.
Monkey brain take
the marble scene cringed me into the floor
For thai people we are on the same page that the cousin romantic part is weird. Have some people criticized about it
Glad we were not the only ones!

It was Caleb I was thinking about unfortunately 😔
@AidenandAntoniowatchmovies maaaan why do I even watch these 😒 also its Row-hear-uhm
Love your review! Thank you for watching and promoting a Thai film. Most of the cultures/believes you saw in the movie are not Thai cultures/believes actually. They are Chinese or at least Thai-Chinese. The funeral, the graveyard, etc. One of the element of the movie that non-Thai people may miss is the cultural different between the grandma who is more Chinese and the grandson who had lost his Chinese heritage and became Thai. It is hard to say which religion or belief she actually followed. Partly Buddhism for sure but it might be a mixed version of Thai Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism+Taoism. This is quite common in Thailand. In the movie, she went to a Thai buddhist temple but she also followed Guanyin (so she didn't eat beef) who is a bodhisatva from Chinese buddhism. The Thai movie name is "Lahn-Ma" which is a combination of a Thai word Lahn=grandchild and a Teochew-Chinese word Ma/Ahma=grandma. These kind of details are easily lost in translation.
Thanks for your cultural insights! That was definitely something we both missed.
I really liked this movie. I also felt so strongly about my mother and grandmother and it reminded me of my own family dynamics. I hope it does well at the Oscars!
I’m hoping for at least just for an international best picture nom
"500 Days Of Summer" is the consummate conveyance of the genre. Plus, it's smart as hell.
I can’t agree, but I understand. Personally for me the before trilogy is still unmatched to me.
I really love both of your comments. One of you even reminds me of Mr. Ebert .☺️ I’m Thai with a little bit of Chinese part. I also knocked on the coffin talking to the deceased before the cremations. (This has nothing to do with the movie but may I ask you a personal question? Are both of you Eurasians?)
Thank you for the kind words! As for our race Antonio and I are 100% Latino
Love the split-screen video format! (I also love the old way where we see the whole room. Maybe you can use them interchangeably for each video!)
Yes! We can’t record in person right now due to limited space in my house being used to take care of my rabbit. We will return to in person recording once we are able to!
The casting of Topher Grace is genius. We think that his character is going to lead to saving the sister missionaries. The grace by which we are saved isn't Topher Grace. Mr. Reed: "They say that over a billion people have played monopoly but I'm guessing that only a fraction of that billion have actually finished it. Maybe that reminds you of something else. (pointing to the bible) Just a thought." Finish reading the bible, specifically the last book of the New Testament, The Revelation. Then watch the movie again. I think that you may find a whole new meaning to the movie.
Love the video!
Thank you appreciate it!
I saw this in theaters back in theaters when it was first released in 2014. I gotta say the wormhole black hole scenes were absolutely astounding. My jaw dropped to the fcking floor it looked so incredible.
Dude completely agree being able to re experience it in proper Imax was awesome

The scene where Fujino runs home in the rain after meeting Kyomoto for the first time was absolutely magical. So glad you guys caugjt this movie!
This film gave me major “Bakuman.” vibes at time which is a major plus because I loved that anime.
*spoiler alert* So the whole origin of this story was tatsuki fujimoto wanted to work with kyoto animation and when kyoto animation was attacked by a crazy man a few years ago he was so hurt he made this story to help him cope. Kyomoto is kyoto plus his name fujimoto. Even the guy who kills her said the same thing the guy who attacked kyoto animation said. "They stole his work." Which knowing that helps elevate and ground this story so much. And one more thing, the periods where there is no words is straight from the manga. I highly recommend you both read it because fujimotos talent for making mangas feel like movies is unparalleled
I had a feeling it might be related but I didn’t know to what extent!
I think Dan Murrell put it best: People who don't know early days of SNL can't enjoy this film because nothing gets explained. Those who do kow can't enjoy it because the film does not go much deeper than what is already known. What was the point of this movie????
I do kinda understand that, but at the same time I feel like even if you have a little knowledge of SNL and a little knowledge of the specific comedians in the film theirs still a lot to enjoy.
I loved it. As a film it was so entertaining, well paced, and the performances were really great. I could care less about modern SNL, and that's the real magic of the film it makes SNL interesting again. Great film.
It’s great to hear that perspective as obvious young people we both had very little knowledge of the beginning episodes. Overall very enjoyable film for sure.
@@AidenandAntoniowatchmovies Yeah, it used to be a great show. I'm not an anti woke person or anything, but SNL definitely got highjacked by writers who felt it should focus more on being socially relevant than comedically relevant. Sadly, they achieved neither.
Thx for great review 😊🇹🇭 How to make millions (memmories) before grandma dies✅✅✅ Nick name of a main actor : Billkin Nick name of a main actress : Amah Teaw
Glad you enjoyed it!
I keep forgetting that SNL still even exists
This new season has been pretty decent, Ariana grande episode and last weeks Charli xcx were great. If you haven’t checked out snl in a while I recommend watching all of the “Weekend Update” Joke Swap segments those are all really funny.
Woman of the Hour was fine, with a bit of a weak script, and not fleshed out characters. It tackled its difficult parts quite well, however. Haven't heard of Zia Anger, will check her out. Oh by the way, have you seen The Substance?
No i haven’t!! I think Antonio has I’ve just had my hands full with worth and our rabbit at the time being. Will have to check it out before the year is done.
Two men think a movie about what it's like to be a woman that was directed by a woman "falls short."
Ya the movie didn’t convey its themes and messaging well. “Promising Young Women” and just this year “My First Film” both directed by women do a better job than this film.
Um this movie was phenomenal
“Promising Young Women” did it better!
I also really liked Rebel Ridge. Expected a dumb action to watch in the background, but at every turn, the movie was smarter and more ambitious than it needed to be as a Netflix film. I agree that the lead is a charisma powerhouse🐇
Highly recommend you check out the directors previous film “Green Room”
@@AidenandAntoniowatchmovies I just saw it yesterday. Was a bit hard to get through the violence, but certainly well made. Got the director on my watch list now.
@@Grogeous_Maximus The hand reaching through the door scene!!!! Glad you liked it though.
I liked the movie alright. I didn't know about the 'based on a true story part', so the plot kind of just felt like stuff happening. Looking forward to more movies from Anna Kendrick. Also, say hello to the little Destroyer of Cables 🐇 :edit: rofl the Brie Larson comment - really looking forward to your Rebel Ridge review
The plot very much has a “stuff happens” vibe.
As a Thai I can confirm that the acting are super natural👍🏼
Awesome!
Waiting for the how to train your dragon review 🙏🏼
Hmmmm…
I gotta say as an Albanian I wasn't offended by the bad guys being Albanian gangsters. It's actually very accurate lol. People resort to gang activity in Albania and outside as well because there's no opportunities for most people lol. And yes, a lot of the really bad Albanian gangsters come from Tropoja Albania. Main reason why Albania is poor is because of a communist dictatorship that lasted for nearly fifty years and 10 years of anarchy that followed thereafter.
Ya overall it’s fine just a funny observation for the film given the current climate in the US
This movie really changed Neeson's reputation. Before this he was never much of a tough guy. That's not to say he never got fight scenes - Rob Roy, Phantom Menace, Batman Begins. But none of those are particularly gritty. Since then we get The Grey, Memory, and even his comedic appearance in Ted 2.
Ya really unlocked his career with the dad action films

As one of the most handsome (and smart) gremlins to ever have existed, I like this video
👀👀
I think, the movie was really good
We agree!
So many wonderfully nonsensical scenes. But here's one that's sticking with me. I think it's when Cesar goes to buy flowers. The same trip where he passes the dying statues. (Which makes metaphorical sense for the first one, which is Lady Justice, but less sense for the others.) They start shooting on a real street. Then it cuts to what is clearly a studio backlot. (For the police brutality.) And then the car stops and it's obviously green screen. Was that on purpose or did Coppola think we couldn't tell? I couldn't make sense of it either way.
The effects it at times are laughable, I just have a hard time believing that he thinks it looks ok. Part of me has to think it’s purposeful and or budget related.
Yeah, Hamlet. Completely unexplained and not reacted to. And it's not even clear if Shakespeare exists in this universe, so we don't know if Cesar was quoting Hamlet for 3 minutes or if this was meant to pass as original dialogue. ... As they stand on scaffolding above a model of the city, shouting speeches to a crowd but pausing to let others interrupt them. It's a bonkers scene and only 5 minutes in.
And the scene just drags and it’s like one of the first scenes and it’s like watching you have no clue what the heck is going on.
He wanted to make this movie for 40 years. Kinda weird he didn't get the story down right or the characters considering he had so much time.
To me seems kinda like feature creep but for movies, maybe originally it was more to the point and then throughout his career he keeps saying “oh I’ll do this to, and then add this and this and this etc…” then when he finally sits down to make it, it’s like bloated with all these ideas and storylines. I would love to see the original like first draft of the script looked like.
@@AidenandAntoniowatchmovies I love the concept of the movie but the execution was just bad.
eyes wide shut huh?
I can’t be right all the time!
This was the greatest 120 million student film I've ever seen.
That's exactly what I said about it! It has that same quality of "doing nonsense and calling it art."
@@notme222for me the more u try to make ur characters sound "smart" it just makes them look dumb 😂

@@AidenandAntoniowatchmovies “so go back to the cluuuuuuub” 😂 Also if u look closely at that scene u can see a boom mic 🤦🏼♂️
_Eyes Wide Shut_ ??? Yeah, I think Coppola made that after _Star Wars_ and before _Lord of the Rings_ . 😆😂🤣 I'm just giving you a hard time Aiden, but you have to know that was Stanley Kubrick's final movie. Not a Coppola film.
Dude I’m so stupid as soon as I said it I knew it sounded wrong, and then I had to to confirm ahahah

Phillips thought he was making HA HA LAND...
This fool was in La La Land writing this movie
great job i like the reviews from yall
Thanks g appreciate it
I thought the first one was very overrated while I found this to be underrated. The performances are all great, it looks amazing even better than the first one and I thought most of the songs worked. It does get a little boring in the middle right around the trial part though. If you think of this movie more of a story about Arthur Fleck than the Joker I think you'll like it more. 7/10.
I understand what your saying and I also understand what the movie is saying “no one cares about Arthur they just care about the joker” and it’s like YES that’s exactly right that’s why the first made over a billion dollars. And I found it in poor taste that Todd went ahead and added the guy cutting the smile after Christopher Nolan axed that happening in the first film.
I barely got through the first movie. Almost everything Joker had to say - and more - was said in Parasite, which came out the same year. That being said, at least the first Joker seemed to have things to get off its chest. The new one doesn't seem to have any actual message, other than postmodern 4th wall breaking, that complains that people liked the first movie for the wrong reasons.
It’s just an f you to the audience really which is fine, but it’s still bad.
The best theory I've heard is that neither Todd Phillips or Juaquin Phillips wanted to do a sequel. But WB really really wanted it so they made the movie as a joke itself. (Kind of like how Joe Dante made Gremlins 2.) _edit:_ Wrote that early. Antonio has a good point about souring people on the character being a part of it. I think he's right. I agree with Aiden that it's not intentionally "bad", but I might say it's intentionally "meta".
I definitely get the meta vibes of it, but to me no one put a gun to either Todd Philips or Joaquin’s head to make this movie so it’s like why’d you even do it in the first place.
More like folie a DEUCE
Trueeeeeeee
