I read Marx when I was young and came away with one idea, namely that the capitalists will never stop trying to extracting surplus value under any circumstances. This seemed untrue at the time, but today the capitalists continue to extract surplus value although the value of their wealth continues grow relative to the lower classes. It is important to note that in MMT it is the real economy that matters, not the paper economy. Should money be created for corporate takeovers or education? Financial speculation or infrastructure? For the wealthy to collect interest or health care? All of these things reduce the cost of living, and therefore the cost of labor and production, resulting in a more efficient economy.

To add to my post: I have engaged in what I call "alienated labor" for my entire working life. I was able to retire at 59 with a pension but I had done everything I could to protect the families who were robbed of their children because bureaucrats decided what a good home environment was by basically the concepts of white people. Even Black workers were willing to engage in racist policies against families in Children's Protective Services. In a just society all families could benefit but capitalists take the largest share of profits, real estate and love bullet proof luxury cars.
