Crisis and Critique
Austria
Приєднався 20 лют 2021
Crisis and Critique, is a journal of political thought and philosophy, appearing two times a year. It has an international audience and readership, authors, and editorial board. The journal has gained a reputation for its rigour and perspicacious treatment of the topics it covers. It began in 2012, whereas the first issue was published in 2014.
The podcast will not reproduce any content of the journal but operate as its extension. Therefore topics will not necessarily resonate with those dealt with in the journal.
The Crisis and Critique podcast seeks to intervene and reflect, discuss and engage from a philosophical perspective what happens outside of philosophy. It will therefore invite guests from a diverse array of practices, and will sometimes also include philosophers. We will discuss their work, or contemporary or past events, and odd, weird, or spectacular phenomena.
New episodes will be released roughly every four weeks.

Wow. What a brilliant analysis Professor Veraufakis.
So, the commodity is data or information such that the manipulation of the employee class is the desired "commodity" rather than a usable specific commodity such as coffee, yarn, or pencils, (as three examples). It's a focus is, as always, the abuse of the employee class.
Same issues in Sociology and psychology departments in the USA, The fascists were given control of universities and you would not be allowed to get your graduate degree by the fascists of the department if you didn't successfully fake being a fascist also.

What is legally rights for there's finishing for election ?
Decolonize your mind from the cult ideology of sovereignty. Stop voting. Completely de-register as a voter. Being registered is consent, and thereby is complicity in the Gaza genocide no matter which so-called sovereign officer is in office. Stop using a colonial title to your body. Title is consent to be the legal property of a so-called sovereign. Stop saying that you belong to/on a so-called sovereign state. Saying that you come from a so-called sovereign state is consent to be the property of a cult. Go for the no cult state solution. Remember that a statement of sovereignty is not secular. Is the Israeli Shekel legal tender in Palestine? The shekel is a shackle. Same with any other monopoly. The forced separation of people from markets, based on birth place, is still a crime. End Global Apartheid - Publish, MONOPOLY = SLAVERY, on so-called sovereign monopoly money.
to me this new version of capitalism reminds me of World of Warcraft economy if you imagine also that some people have access to cheat codes from the older games
""Make Amazon pay "will not solve the problems. What solve the problem is remove the entire market given to Amazon and other monopolies. Small businesses and majority working class will not benefit anything by increasing taxes for rich. Small business and middle-very low now class will benefit only some market % be allocated to them . Give opportunities to people, so people be motivated to work and give the best of them.

This guy is a fascist madman. Don't trust this guy. Everything he says is bs. Free markets are the greatest thing. It's the governments that we need to fight!
Human nature can't be changed. Communism keeps trying and it ends in endless misery. If Varoufakis would be honest with himself, he'd just accept that the family is core and center of any functional and healthy society. Destroying the family is societal suicide. We are in the middle of that.

I think Yanis is just pointing to a fact which is related to Luxembourg's account of why there is no "pure capitalism" but always interwoven with feudalism. But I think Bezos is just making money from ground rent. This form of making profit is parasitic on how value-form works, not a radical shifting.
In 1963, Asger Jorn wrote: "The leisure hours is the only thing that is valued in modern society, and the modern form of exploitation is concentrated upon this one point: How can we steal the free hours from the individuals? This is the major problem of modern state-polity." Well, now with Techno-feudalists, this problem has been solved. The user of Facebook, UA-cam, X etc. is spending his or her leisure hours for the benefit of Zuckerberg & Co. The alienation is so soft so as to not being felt, really. The old dictum of Benjamin Franklin: ‘Time is money’ gets a new meaning. And Capital has a new Merry-Go-Round. [Asger Jorn: Painter, co-founder of the Cobra-group, and renowned as such. In addition, he was one of the main figures in the Situationist movement. Author of a series of little-known books, among which is "Value and Economy" ]
You should read Shoshana Zuboff's; The age of Surveillance Capitalism. She explains the capture of leisure time by social media companies.
Walter Benjamin: "boredom is the dream bird that gives flight to the imagination" - a necessary part of creativity, as relevant to well-being as sleep - c.f. Susan Buck-Morss, "Aesthetics and Anaesthetics" - c.f. Sloterdijk-Huyssen-Zizek: post-Enlightenment schizo-cynicism: the weakening of symbolic efficiency brings the imaginary closer to the Real
So what does that practically mean for the economy? Better consumers?
@@batlash1 It likely means more anxious consumers, less convinced by the pursuit of happiness, more aggressive and lashing out at anything, while at the same time seeking sources of authority to ground these anxious, irrational impulses. For example, an electric SUV, which combines ecological conceits with Hummer machismo. Or, working out at the super-spreader gym and "living with covid." The Barnays, PR and Motivational Research agenda for corporate capitalism go into reverse as economic insecurity makes the petty-bourgeois habitus susceptible to 24/7 just-in-time counter-representations, spin, whataboutism, offshoring, etc. It's hard to imagine how a declining middle class and paycheck-to-paycheck working class can make for better consumers, but then entertainment is available at low cost. Many working people these days are wearing black hoodies and have a doomsday look to them, with the "fundamentalist" look for men ( bald heads and beards ) very popular, as well as "Duck Dynasty" aesthetics, tattoos, etc, cheap baggy clothes, etc. The multi-part articles about the PMC in Damage magazine indicates what this means for the educated petty bourgeoisie. A different matter is what it means for the working class. The PMC has its activist and creative class wings and the struggle over whether we will have a revolutionary or reformist left takes place, on the ideological front, at this level. At the level of the political economy, it's the economic decline of the West, Great Power Conflict, BRICS, nuclear rearmament, ecological doomsday, billionaire wealth, etc.
Frankfurt school reference!
He speaks of Techno-Fuedalism, while remaining within a totally technological society. This video, UA-cam, magic speed transmission, discourse, techniqnue etc etc. Wow ! Hegelian hogwash can go so far, alas but ecological disasters are rolling out dozens a day. Zero talk or concern about the real condition of the Earth. Count your CO2 emissions Yanis The Soothsayer?!?
Marvelous. Why reverberating in the return to Marx framing does all this bring the echo of his most celebrated injunction loudly to the inner ear? Philosophers interpreting endlessly changing nothing... bad infinity indeed.
Throughout the entire history of humankind every regime is a despotic regime. You can go to extraordinary lengths to try to convince yourself your particular society, is run as an (in the making) egalitarian utopia. But isn't, it's either a monarchy, or an oligarchy. Every political system devised, was built as a system of control. For those in power to remain in power. Many different political flavours, same result. The perfect despotic regime is one where the citizens feel a deep connection, to the system of control itself. Even integral to it. These are called sheep... and the more, sheep there are, the less the regime has to use its 'force' to keep control. The sheep are then happy and even police themselves. That's why the West, is so renowned and famous. Its overall population are proud to be their owners sheep. They look down on other less sophisticated despotic systems as archaic. It's the proverbial 'Stockholm syndrome' but on a grand scale. Even when times are tough and their standard of living decreases dramatically, with new each generation. They all still cling to the idea they're part owners, of the nationstate, in which they say they belong to. This is called absolute 'control'. Anyone that sells you a solution, or even a journey to a fairer society is just exploiting, the noisy idealist sheep. There is no way out of this 'very human' political conundrum.
I read Marx when I was young and came away with one idea, namely that the capitalists will never stop trying to extracting surplus value under any circumstances. This seemed untrue at the time, but today the capitalists continue to extract surplus value although the value of their wealth continues grow relative to the lower classes. Today Increasing the inequity of wealth is the entire goal of the capitalist class. This will continue until collapse or the implementation of techo feudalism. Since techo feudalism is centralized power in the hands a few capitalists, control of Artificial Intelligence by these top capitalists might lead to a viable solution.
Agreed, but I'm reluctant to use the word 'value.' It's not value, it's zeros on a balance sheet. What makes it so much worse is that they'll never spend it. NO value.
In the West, the feudal lords ARE the rulers. China is a threat because this is not the case. The US feudal system can not compete because socialism is more efficient. This failure to compete is called Chinese "overcapacity" by the private transnational rentier oligarchy at the top of Wall Street (the deep state). The classical economists beginning with Adam Smith identified the economic rents (unearned income) extracted by feudal lords as the problem preventing a free market that the government should solve. The neoliberal (Austrian, Libertarian, Chicago School Monetarist) counter-enlightenment led by the super wealthy was to not acknowledge any such problem, as the marketing front for their banks (FIRE, finance, insurance and real estate) whose vocation is rent seeking and who directly employ the modern neo feudal government. "Today, commercial banks have the privilege of creating money as credit. They oppose governments creating their own money, because that would make economies less dependent on bankers and bondholders. Opposing Modern Monetary Theory (MMT), banks and bondholders demand that governments finance their budget deficits by borrowing at interest instead of simply creating their own money by fiat." Michael Hudson, The Destiny of Civilization (Kindle locations 4561 to 4564) In MMT, taxes don't pay for anything. Taxes simply extinguish money to keep inflation in check. Some insist that "taxation is theft", but I would argue that rentier income, which by definition derives from ownership alone, a not at all productive extraction from the real economy of producing and consuming goods and services, is theft, and this is what should be taxed. It is important to note that in MMT it is the real economy that matters, not the paper economy. Should money be created for corporate takeovers or education? Financial speculation or infrastructure? For the wealthy to collect interest or health care? All of these things reduce the cost of living, and therefore the cost of labor and production, resulting in a more efficient economy.

How does one write volumes when the mind changes every day?
Bourgeois-capitalist industrial nation had been mutated into technological socialist service societies around the year 2000. So, the task of critical philosophy is not to attack TECHNO-FEUDALISM, but enhance the awareness that a modern humanist society should be socio-capitalist and that TECHNO-FEUDALISM should be controled by the state. (as China is doing)
That's a start. Once we have the toys, we will learn to play. (Think Ian Banks' Culture SciFi series) The state directed techno-capitalism of China will better direct technology for more people than US techno feudalism.
Deep mole CIA asset, Yanis. Paul Mason's mate. Yet to be caught in the act. Fake rebellion. Plausible glib useless philosophy.
When capitalist vendors pay a commission rather than a wage, are we not in the same dynamic?

What is the role of a Marxist if machines do all the labor ?
None. (See Star Trek, or its dystopic version, The Matrix.) But they don't!
You mean "if machines do all the labour for a handful of billionaires who can afford them while the working-class masses fired from their jobs are left to face environmental collapse, starvation, social and political unrest and their sending off into wars"?
@@yanisvaroufakisdo you believe humans would live peacefully together without crime, addiction, etc if we sorted out material poverty like in Star Trek?

The message needs to get through to the worker drones
The petite bourgeois will do anything to prevent their becoming mere workers again, including embracing fascism. The workers are taught to admire and please the bourgeois, not revolt against them. The answer is to bypass capitalism entirely and embrace mutual aid, local dependence, and self organization.
That last question was just so unfair. Yes, Bernie blew it!

1:07:04 “… Some day the nations of Europe may be ready to merge their national identities and create a new European Union - the United States of Europe. If and when they do, a European Government will take over all the functions which the Federal government now provides in the U.S., or in Canada or Australia. This will _involve_ the creation of a ‘full economic and monetary union’. But it is a dangerous error to believe that monetary and economic union can precede a political union or that it will act (in the words of the Werner report) ‘as a leaven for the evolvement of a political union which in the long run it will in any case be unable to do without’. For if the creation of a monetary union and Community control over national budgets generates pressures which lead to a breakdown of the whole system it will prevent the development of a political union, not promote it.” [italics in the original] -Nicholas Kaldor, “The Dynamic Effects Of The Common Market,” _New Statesman,_ 12 March 1971
To add to my post: I have engaged in what I call "alienated labor" for my entire working life. I was able to retire at 59 with a pension but I had done everything I could to protect the families who were robbed of their children because bureaucrats decided what a good home environment was by basically the concepts of white people. Even Black workers were willing to engage in racist policies against families in Children's Protective Services. In a just society all families could benefit but capitalists take the largest share of profits, real estate and love bullet proof luxury cars.
I love Yanis! I would like the US to have Diem25 to extend to the US. Perhaps I could spearhead it?
It's 2025. How is "democracy in Europe 2025" going? Did they achieve even one goal or did everything go 100% in the opposite direction even faster? Yeah okay. And the US? The US doesn't even have a left wing. You have right wing and far right wing, the differences are all cultural and social like religious crazies vs secular. Both parties are pro capitalist and authoritarian. One is secular the other is religious. That's it. The political spectrum is larger in literal defacto one party states than it is in the US fake democracy. Get real. 2% of the US at most could be considered left wing and they have zero political representation. The far right on the other hand is 1/3 of the country and growing.
Yes Dius28. I’d sign up.

this disavowel is interesting in relation to the right. "i dont need to understand the right, i just need to know its wrong", an overt disavowel of actual critical thought: if anything it is the reverse, a true left feels directly this fascist temptation: else, it CANNOT be rejected.
The whole Russian totalitarian thing is pretty amusing. When here in the west one can't even have a conversation about how the war in Ukraine is the most provoked war of the last half a century, brought to us, by the empire of Chaos - the U.S. and the billionaire class upholding the values of the war machine. No mention of the Ukrainian Neo Nazi's fascists hauling people off the street to send them to an uber capitalist meat grinder to pave the way for Fascist Corporations like Black Rock. Apart from that Malabou is pretty great to listen to!
