Fine handmade custom wooden Xun flutes, located in Upstate NY.
Kantele Song No.3 - Custom Koa Xun in E4
A song I originally composed years ago for the 5-stringed Finnish kantele, this is one of several melodies I have adapted from the kantele, which are very simple but fun songs to play on the xun, and perfect for beginners to start learning on, particularly since this melody uses only the first 5 notes of the xun. I also use this and other simple kantele-derived melodies during the tuning and voicing process of building these xun for checking intonation and response of the lower notes.
This piece is performed on a newly completed custom ordered 8-hole xun in figured koa for one of my best friends, who requested this xun to match his ukulele. Koa is extremely light yet exceptionally resonant, lending itself to a beautifully rich and warm tone with great projection. This particular piece of koa was hand selected for this project, with an incredible iridescence to the grain that moves like fire in the light.

Thanks! I think this will also sound great with a deeper xun! I plan on recording a version with my new purpleheart bass. I also just recorded an actual meditation song on my katalox xun, Flower by Kokin Gumi from their Zen Garden cd which is also a fun piece to learn.
Ooh, the Eb is so much deeper than my E. Might have to get another one already 🙃
The Eb size is definitely a lot of fun to play! I personally like the slightly deeper tone, and the current favorite in my collection is the new katalox I made, which I think this size sounds fantastic with heavy dense woods. I will also be revealing a look at my new even deeper B3 bass size model in a couple weeks!
