Nice! I frequently used a 6 and 10-stop ND when I lived near the beach. I'll break it out occasionally when visiting one of the local marinas. You're right; the viewcatcher is a bit small. Good to hear from you, buddy! Take care.
@ScottymanPhoto Hey Michael good to hear from you.I like the long exposure images.Next video i will be using the 17 stop ND filter for fine art images. Take care my friend.
@@SniperPhotography Can't wait to see that one!
Fantastic video, i really like the colour version but i also love the contrast in the black and white 😊
@@jeffreysproule Thank you Jeffrey.I will be doing another video on long exposure using a 17 stop ND filter. Like your video content as well.
Good idea with the picture frame Glenn. Good to see you back out again using the trusty 10 stop filter mate!

Hi Glenn! A very informative video! The picture frame is a very great idea! I never thought about using one! Stay well and safe! Best, Duane
@@duanemcclun9924 Hi Duane.Yes the picture frame is a great thing to use for composition. It makes you fine tune it with great end results. Take care my friend.
Fantastic photos Glenn. I waited until the end of your talk before I viewed them and yep, you nailed it. Thanks for the great information too. The frame, a great idea. ND filters are something that I've had no real world experience with, however I'm going to start using them. I've seen some photos of incredibly busy motorways and crowd scenes taken using an ND filter and there's no traffic or people to be seen at all. Great photos. Thanks as always Glenn. Sean.
@@SeanC1959 Hi Sean.Yes,the ND filters are fantastic to use.I have 4 ND filters.4 stop,6 stop,10 stop and a 17 stop big stopper. All get used depending on the available light and the effect I am looking for.Thank you for watching my videos it’s very much appreciated. Take care
Thank you for this instruction. I have found a used Bower branded 24mm f3.5 tilt shift for $450.00 US. I think this would be a great addition to my kit.

I've never seen any of your videos, but this came up when I was looking for an alternative to a pan and tilt head, and thank you, I hated every ball head I've ever had, no matter the price, which is why I got a fluid head, but it's anything but fluid. 😂

Surprisingly unclear! I have 3 T-S lenses and was waiting for the “change the tilt button” or “change the shift button”. My guess is that your focussing technique will not work for 45mm and longer, but I’ll try it out since no one else has suggested this method...
@@dominiclester3232 well it works well for me and others that have tried it this way.You learn something everyday.
I will get mine tomorrow :) I only have one point of constructive critique here, that's to avoid the sky with buildings and other straight things in your frame, tilting the camera forward makes your lines fall. In this case, you better adjust the height of your tripod by lowering the center column just a bit (if your tripod has one) or shorten the legs by a fraction. Then you keep your lines straight.
Good information, I've taken heed of your videos and experienced the results especially looking and taking in the area prior to and during the shoot and especially after when you think it's done and on the leaving look back and you'll see something else. Seems like by what you're saying is the "TYPE" of photography you do the camera needs to be perfectly level and straight like if you're shooting architectural compositions, do you take pictures of objects that move like people or animals heck even landscapes ballheads are more versatile that's why they're so popular. Many instances while out with your gear you have to get a shot quickly before it's gone. Maybe you should have clarified what "type" of photography you shoot. I'd like to know.

Which brand of nodal rail head do you use?
@@barbarajirkovsky5678 leofoto
Rightly so about the ball heads. I only used for space saving on medium format press on a monopod as a better the leaning on someone or a bench as I get random quick movement but hardly anything precise. Just ok. The Gitzo offset ball is ok but kinda bulky for its class. G1576
Blooming brilliant. I was looking at the LeoFoto VH20LR for a medium format press on a monopod. Have you compared others in this class? I like the ergonomics of the Promedia HM1 with friction tilt & lock?
If you like tripods, you have to try one from Induro, i use the Induro GIT504L Grand Series 5 Stealth Carbon Fiber, that's a beast too, it can hold 42 kilo... i'm still a DSLR user, Canon 1DX- Mark II with the EF500MM F/4 IS, and that's a big weight, but no problems at all, only minus is that the Induro weights 3.2 kilo by it self... 🤭
Thanks, nice video, i've been looking for something about the VX30, but i think by now you've found out that the top knob is not for the safety but for panning... ? 😉

I Like the Idea, today you would Focus stack
Nice Setup IS the 70-200 with IS?
Yes it is
Anyone have experience using a 3 way like the leofoto G4 or arca Swiss d4, vs using a ball head like the arca swiss po monofix hybrid / or a ball head with an additional compact 3 way attached like the leofoto G2 ?
The 10-18 is anything but a kit Lens. Nice video
You own an 24-105 and a 100-400 so 70-200 is redundant, also having 17-40 and 16-35 is redundant. I assume you will retire the 17-40 or give back the 16-35!duentonthe weight. Which brings it diwn to 5 lenses.
I actually own 14 lenses. They are all used for different locations and for different purposes. I also teach landscape photography as a profession here in Australia. So each of the 14 lenses that I own and use are all put to good use. Thanks for your comment.
I've read reviews of the Samyang and a lot of people are of the opinion it is only good at f8 or f11, what is your findings with it as i am looking at getting a samyang myself. Good video explaining the benefits of the tilt shift.
It performs very well between F5.6 to F16.Well worth buying it.
@@SniperPhotography thanks, i have found one near new for sale and will grab it
@ianelliott9467 sounds good.I use 2 other Samyang lenses and they are outstanding. 14mm 2.8 Ultra Wide and a 20mm 2.8 wide and are a good piece of glass.
can you use an adjustable center column with this kind of head?
Yes You can. However the use of a centre column is not advisable with any type of head. Please see my other videos on why I don't use or suggest using centre columns on tripods. Thank you for watching.
Thanks mate another great honest heart to heart talk about camera gear. I find it curious that with all the modern tech going into the latest camera the second hand market is booming in film cameras. It would be interesting to see a break down of age groups and what each age group is buying today. Keep going mate you have a message that needs to be heard
Thank you Haney It's the younger generation that are moving from phones to a new camera.Unfortunately they are being coned into believing that they need the latest and greatest camera on the market to be able to take good photos. UA-cam camera reviews and the people that do them are also responsible for this so called belief . Take care
Thank you for an Honest talk about gear and the art of photography. I learnt on a film camera ( an old Pentax SF7), and currently use a Nikon F5 and just love the mystery and expectation of having my film come back processed and images scanned. I think there are 2 types of photographers those who love and practice the art and those who are simply camera show offs. Do painters worship their paint brushes or carpenters worship their hammers? Cameras are simply a tool we use to create images we love in an art form we enjoy
Beautifully said. I have been behind a camera since 1973. Started with film processing in my bathroom set up as a darkroom. Have learnt lot in the last 50yrs of photography. Thank you for reaching out. Cheers
Great advice again Glenn. I had my crop sensor and third party lenses for 6 years( I am a slow learner 😅) Still to this day some of my best images through making mistakes and learning from them. 😊 All the best mate.
Hey Col That's right.Learning is part of the fun
You hit the nail on the head with this video. Though I have all my pro cameras sand lenses but I bought them used. Your video is spot on though and I agree with you.
Thank you for your kind words. Take care
APS-C have much cheaper glass, I actually test now some APS-C camera as I thought might actually scale down from FF because relatively good glass is so easy to get, it took me few days of shooting to actually notice some differences between ability of each (it's worth noting I don't use whole equivalent logic, because it's just a different crop). Generally controls make most difference for me as I'd rather shoot comfortably than have perfect picture, then there is slight difference in dynamic range, I'm not able to recover as much data from shadows and highlights, but generally as far as picture is well exposed there is no actual difference. Very good point about not spending too much from the start, I probably spent more than I should when I had initially no idea what I want to do with photography, my recommendation to any new photographer would be any camera be it crop or FF with kit lens, and one fast prime 35-50mm to have something for better separation. Also about kit lenses, apart from less than perfect F-stop, they are usually very good for the price, they usually come with stabilization, and have pretty close minimal focusing distance which usually people forget, but they tend to be rather good to get some serious closeups (not the macro level but still way better than any prime usually), and since they are make by your camera manufacturer, they are relatively good with AF, when I was getting a6400 recently I got it with kit for cheaper than body, so in some cases you can even save money by getting kit apparently.
I really like your approach to the gear in this video. It is definitely about the photographer, not so much the gear. Cheers from Norway
Thank you for your kind words. Much appreciated. Take care
And I use a Nikon D5000, D90, and last December I acquired a D7200, all good machines.
Great to hear this. Well done
Double digit Canon DSLRs still count as pretty high end to me ;) That said, it's the lenses which make it so fair dos using a kit lens.
Exactly right. Thanks for your comment. Have a great day.
Glenn your philosophy is truly on the money. I use old Fuji crop sensor cameras and lenses, sometimes ancient Nikkor lenses as well. The thing is, like you say, it comes down to knowing how to actually use the equipment and the science behind it. Those images at the end of the video reminded me of an afternoon I spent at Somerby Falls back in May of '17 just photographing the falls, experimenting with light, aperture and shutter speed...... Great day. Thanks again for your sharing your great knowledge. Cheers, Sean.
That's so good to hear Sean. I am not against new technology but people are being fooled into thinking that you need the best equipment. Unfortunately the camera companies rely on the people not knowing. Take care my friend.
@@SniperPhotography Thank you again Glenn. I can't stress how much your video presentations have made me think outside of the box. I decreasingly watch several of the other photography channels as they mostly talk about the latest and the greatest cameras, sensor megapixels, what they can do and so on....
