Black Mountains Hike and Wild Camp during stormy weather | Brecon Beacons | MSR Access 1
I didn't fancy a long drive in the Easter traffic so I went to the Black Mountains which are not too far from home. Even though I got held up in traffic only 5 minutes from home!
Unfortunately the weather turned out to be more stormy than forecast with very high winds on the ridges, as you can hear in the video, so I changed my plan to camp high and descended to the valley of Grwyne Fawr. This worked out well however it lacked the grand views of the higher ground.

A very windy winter hike in the mountains of the Brecon Beacons | Corn Du | Pen Y Fan | Cribyn.
Переглядів 938 місяців тому
The central Brecon Beacons National Park, or Bannau Brycheiniog, were looking stunning on this bright sunny, but very cold windy, winters day. I started the walk from one of the southern car parks, and did the classic horseshoe in a clockwise direction starting with an ascent of Craig Fan Ddu and finishing with Cribyn. The was a little snow on the tops and plenty of frost. There was also plenty...

A wintery wild camp below Pen Yr Ole Wen and Carnedd Dafydd in the Carneddau. The original plan was camp near the summit of Pen Yr Ole Wen, however I decided to camp lower down in Cwm Lloer partly due to a latish start and I could see there was a high wind on the tops as evidenced but the fast moving clouds. It turned out to be a good decision because the scenery was awesome and a quiet night r...

Join us as we take a walk up to High Cup Nick in the North Pennines. We started out from the village of Dufton in relatively fine weather for mid October, but as we gained height we could see the dark rain clouds approaching, and the wind increasing with the altitude. The views nonetheless were beautiful and well worth the trip. Filmed 15 October 2022

A winter wild camp on Glyder Fawr with a fantastic view over the Ogwen Valley and Tryfan. It was a stunning sunny day which made for a beautiful ascent of the Y Gribin ridge with some scrambling near the top. A winter wild camp on Glyder Fach with a fantastic view over Llyn Caseg-Fraith to Tryfan and the Ogwen Valley. It was a grey start to the day but this cleared giving a sunny afternoon and mostly clear night, but not the snow I hoped for. A short recap of my wild camps of 2021 and looking forward to 2022. The MSR Access 1 proved to be a great tent. Plenty of room for a solo tent, and withstood strong winds, although I didn't experience any gale force winds. 2021 was disrupted by the lock down in the early part of the year, so hoping for a less disrupted 2022. I'm planning lots of wild camps so stay subscribed to my channel. #wil...

Wild camp in the MSR Access 1 overlooking Ennerdale. I started from Wasdale and hiked over Red Pike and Scoat Fell on a very hot afternoon which made it tough going. The pitch on top of a crag overlooking Ennerdale was perfect and I was treated to a beautiful sunset, and a warm night. There were midges but a sligh...

Brecon Beacons bivvy on the north ridge of Pen Y Fan. The weather forecast was good so I made a dash over to the Beacons, which are much closer to home than Snowdonia or the Lakes, to do some astrophotography. The main objective was to get a time-lapse of the Milky Way over the 3 peaks of Pen Y Fan, Cribyn and Corn Ddu. In previous attempts the weather failed me and it looked for a while as tho...

Wild camp on the summit of Crinkle Crags in the MSR Access 1. I climbed from Langdale via The Band to the col between Bow Fell and Crinkle Crags. It was a fantastic pitch, right next to the summit overlooking Oxendale and Great Langdale. The weather was changeable, low cloud swirling around the summits, creating dramatic views. Descent was via Great Knott to Oxendale.

Lake District wild camp on Englands highest mountain, Scafell Pike, with the MSR Access 1. I haven’t measured them so can’t give a number I’m afraid. I rely on the mountain forecasts when deciding to go out and the forecast for this trip showed only light winds, can’t remember what speed, but the exposed pitch meant they were stronger than expected.
