ashes slaps, and the new episode just blessed us
I've played this game since its release basically nonstop till this day. <3
Using Metal Wolf Chaos's "Pepper" at around 10:00? Nice taste
Every year someone makes a video like this about the game
This video deserves so much more attention i really love this video!! keep going
What's great about this game is that, you're fully in control, there's no bullshit auto aim or magnetic grabbing, hitting, etc. Such a shame the sequel was abandoned. Even though the combat was great, there was still room for more.
There's actually a very subtle auto-aim for both melee attacks and weapon fire, but they're dialed down to the point where players don't notice them consciously.
Everyone should play!
Absolutely love this game! Still play it to this day!
I'm honestly surprised by how underrated your channel is. You're very well spoken and make solid points in your reviews. Subbed!
Amazing review! Loved the soundtrack used, that Big Trouble in Little China intro theme perfectly matches the theme of the Ashes games. Well done, sir. You deserve all the subs.
I used to think about the killing in these games, I couldn’t figure out if it "fit" but then I realised that Nate is actually quite ruthless, despite his approachable exterior. He is genuinely dangerous if you’re his enemy and if you try to kill him or someone he cares about, he will shoot you in the head and crack a joke about it hurting in the morning, because, to him, you’re just an asshole who tried to kill him. I think the fundamental issue is not that Nate kills remorselessly, that makes sense, it’s the video game nature of the sheer number of fights that a real person could never consistently survive, and that conflicts with the realistic presentation of the characters. The gameplay seems 'video-gamey' in comparison.
Found these 3 weeks ago and just finished playing all of em..... brilliant!!!! Well done guys 👏... Absolutely loved em..
Ashes is not just a game. It's a way of life in the Wasteland. Still want that LIVERRRR
Awesome underrated video essay!
Thank you!
EATIS LIVER.
What I like about the combat in Ashes is that you have the choice of making it hard for yourself or cheesing it, or somewhere inbetween. Using different strategies and weapons makes the combat very varied. I think Afterglow strikes a good balance between the arena fights (that the reviewer seems to love), screwing you over with ambushes and more stright forward combat. I also disagree with the reviewer that fighting mutants is boring. Mutants are more diverse combat wise than the human enemies!
This game saved me from gamer burnout
Where did you download it
Ashes is the goat. One of the best games Ive ever played
You overthinking too much Those guys tries to kill nate, nate defend himself end of the question And its not ludo-narrative dissonance Lazarevic in the end of the 2 acknowledge the fact that nate murdered entire armies Also its very badass Ans the gunplay/combat was always amazing since the 2, i would say its the best TPS gunplay/gameplay even Even the grapping weapon by the air was made in uncharted 3 first and 4 removed some features like grenade takedowns or stealth bonuses
each game in the series got worse unfortunately hard reset is a piece of shit and i hate it the 1st is my favorite
Infighting is a mutant solution, not a problem. The fact that it happens among the mutant enemies and not among the humans should read as a very deliberate narrative and design choice. By the time you reach the rail station in 2063, you should know that a mutant always beats a dog in a fight so you should bet on the mutant in the arena. This is a really strange review. I feel like it doesn't really get the soul of what Ashes is trying to accomplish. The footage of you deliberately exploiting map geometry to make it less fun for yourself reads less like a problem of the games design and more like a problem with how you approach games.
I agree. Ashes' bread and butter is it's atmosphere and world-building, and despite how acclaimed DMW is, it feels the weakest on that department precisely because it favors chaining together those reviewer-approved arenas over properly made environments. To say the level design in Afterglow is weak because it allows multiple openings for exploiting the enemy AI is like saying haunted houses aren't scary because you can easily punch the actors in the face. It seems a lot of people, specially the reviewer, think Doom TCs should follow the same formulas as Doom proper. Chastising the lack of enemy variety to then dismiss *actual* variety as "filler" because they are used to tell a story instead of treating them like "things to shoot at", even lamenting special encounters like the Destroyers and Matangos weren't as common as Cannibals, as if it made any sense for elite mutant assassins to be hanging out in a random parking lot or for plant monsters to be anywhere in the grass-less concrete jungle of Atlanta.
10:13 Honestly, this is one of my favorite sequences in the game. The tension is insane
Honestly if u want something like dusk then "nightmare reaper" and "The citadel" is what i can recommend. The citadel in particular i think deserve more coverage as nightmare reaper is way more well known. Without going into details, a certain hypocritical very popular doom mod reviewer went after it for having a lot of blood and gore even tho he regularly praises blood and gore in other doom mods and recommends mods to increase or improve it, and that guy weaponized his audience against the solo indie dev of the citadel basically trying to get it off steam and burying it which resulted in a lot of people including other reviewer steering clear of it at the time and from what little the dev has come out since then it impacted him badly psychologically too ,tho to his credit he stayed with it finishing the game and keeping up with fixes for a few years. The dev recently announced a very ambitious sequel (whose demo was covered by the popular gmanlives preempting any campaign that guy could launch) but he is keeping it off steam for now possibly to keep it out of easy access of the haters which saddens me as its looking like a step up and he is doubling down on stuff haters went after him for as if giving a middle finger.
Ashes Afterglow is as good as single-player gaming gets
Afterglow is easily the best of the 3.
Ashes 2063 is a better take on 3D fallout than both fallout 3 and 4
Ashes is the best doom tc I've played & a really good ost too.
This guy would lose his mind if he played an actual horror game lol i mean, i love dusk as much as anyone over the age of 30 but Silent hill 1-4, eternal darkness, siren, fatal frame, clock tower etc do all described in this video.
I first found out about 1:46 this classic from a trailer on a PC gamer disc.
im gonna make a vid on that TC ive been absolutely in love with it
Ashes, retro zone and apocalyptic vibes - all 3 being absolutely INSANE total conversions for doom all stalker/fallout themed
Absolutely awesome video!
Thank you!
i dont know why but this thing bored the hell out of me , stopped playing after an hour or so
"While there are certainly problems worth discussing..." Me: oh you _better_ "discuss" these "problems." You have my full, rapt, and undivided attention now.
A FeW SecOndS lAtEr ... ok that's fair. Carry on, sir.
ASHES HARD RESEST CAME OUT. JUST FINISHED IT. FUCKING AMAZING
The complaints about being able to funnel the enemies into killzones are exactly what I liked though. If you want the Quake experience, go in guns blazing. I'm gonna play it like Half-Life. I like that you have the option. You don't need to play the dull method if it takes the fun out of it, even if it's arguably more efficient.
Awesome review. Has given me a lot of thoughts on improvement!
Thank you! And congratulations to you and the rest of the Ashes team on the release of Hard Reset- it's an excellent addition to the series.
The GOAT of mods himself. Absolutely amazing games man, you fully deserve steam backing your project or something. Seriously what an experience.
thank you for your team hardworking. i'm really enjoyed playing ashes series on my pc and my phone via delta touch. and especially you make a sterilize map for custom monster and weapon.
Like you, I thought DMW was ultra hard... until Hard Reset happened.
Hard Reset is more frightering and immersive then actually "hard"
@@viktorborisov1246 The difference between them is huge on apoc difficulty, and what makes them hard is also quite different. The HR enemies [non-humans] are bullet sponges and some of them are melee based and also quite powerful. Fighting multiple quick tanky melee enemies in tight spaces is hell, not to mention that enemies are numerous on apoc. Also, unlike AG ammo can become a problem on certain levels in HR so you'll have to pick your battles or you'll end up running dry [Withered takes 4 direct shotgun hits & Wendigo takes 5-6 to put down] but luckily certain parts allow you to sneak by enemies to avoid blowing your entire ammo pool. The last fight on the first level is still messed up tho. Most of DMW's enemies are humanoids and its difficulty lies in the well placed enemies and their firepower[dimly lit areas makes it harder]. Also, having gunfights in vast open spaces on DMW maps is an intersting idea because you'll have to make use of the limited obstacles as cover or they'll turn you into swiss cheese. I hope we can see the FAL again in later entries. As for AG, enemies are quite easy to handle. The way players can get carried by the weapon upgrades made things a bit too dull in mid-late game. A player who's average at FPS games shouldn't have any problem clearing it on apoc. If you sell all med-kits for 60 scraps you can get most of the upgrades done even in early game. There's just too much scraps in the game for the players to pick up, you don't even have to choose what to upgrade. I think the devs noticed that and that's why we have less this time around. I feel like 2063's difficulty is in between DMW and AG, it's solid but it doesn't exactly stand out much. However, the soundtrack on 2063 is still the best imo.
Fantastic work on this, and just in time for the release of Ashes: Hard Reset! Completely agree with this critique. Also great hearing Carpenter Brut’s “Obituary” in the outro 👌
Thank you!
you should have waited for hard reset to release man.
11:10 WHO THE FUCK IS THAT GUY? It's my second or third walkthrough through first and second episode and i don't remember him. Where can i find him? P.S. nice video though
In the second hub area in Afterglow, once you get access to the part of the city where the Mayor is- he's gaming inside a trailer stacked on a bunch of tires.
@@redletterday95 thanks
You're a little late with the release of the new addition: Hard Reset.
TLDR : you like slaughter wads where projectiles fly every which way. Newsflash : most people do not like slaughter wads.
You are chewing your words far too much, i literally miss every third word you say. Maybe work on your diction ?
💯 definitely something I need to be more conscious of going forward
It is a fantastic GZDOOM game series.
Doom has alot of really good action horror experiences but nothing quite like ashes
Btw i recommend you check out Selaco. It's Extremely Good. Some of the Best Enemy A.I. and Gunplay i've seen in a Retro Shooter and it's still in EA.
It's one of the Coolest TC in Years.
That's is the best Ashes review I've seen out of many! And has some valid criticism too, but I love this game anyway so it's not too big of a deal.
Thank you!
BTW if you want some more a new prequel chapter will be released on June 10th. A linear prequel taking place 3 years before first episode, and you playing as a different character. Edit: I'm dumb and blind, should go sleep. Insomnia strikes again.
