Creating Structure in Your Day with ADHD (during the Pandemic)
Per request I made a video about how I'm creating a structure without loosing my mind.
My take on:
- grieving the losses of #covid19
- the new normal
- the #ADHD brain without urgency
- two low-stress ways to create a loose structure based on what's working in my home

Personal growth: learning to ask for what you want
Переглядів 105 років тому
As women we are often told that we should be quiet, stay small, don't say anything to might upset anyone. We are told it is not ok to ask for what you need/want in life. (And from other people.) So I am putting it out there: I want a growing community. I want to make a fair living. I want to support other women in making their lives better. I want to be able to assert myself and ask for what I ...

This does work well, but I can tell you as the bofy double person, it gets exhausting and the time takes away from things I need to do. If the person's goal is to eventually overcome adhd, then fine. I can work with thar. Otherwise, never again.

I had an idea of buying the Kalux shelves from IKEA with the storage baskets, and using those instead of a dresser or hanging clothes up. I can't cope with folding/hanging my clothes because my executive function is so bad. Normally, my clean clothes end up dumped on my bedroom floor with my worn clothes and it just gets dusty and creased, and I can't tell what is clean and what needs washing. I'm thinking, with the IKEA baskets, I can just chuck shirts into the shirt basket, bras into the bra basket, jeans in the jeans basket, etc. It might be creased, but at least it's all organised into categories. I can't cope with folding anymore, so I'm just going to chuck it all in there, and putting things into drawers just doesn't work for me. Most of the time, any clothes that make it into the drawers are forgotten about anyway because I can't see they exist.

I hang my clean bras on a pants hanger & add those laundry clips in the middle for additional bras. Bras that can be worn again I hang on a command hook attached to the side of an armoire in my room.

I have found, for me personally, the more “the same” I can make things, the easier it is to take care of them and the more calm I feel, So, a lot of my clothes are the same, towels are the same, same socks, shoes etc.

I never color-coordinate my clothes, because if I had 5 black blouses next to each other, I would forget that they exist, so I mix colors, one white, one black.

You're also less likely to space out/daydream/etc. if you know someone is watching. I don't have money right now, but when I do, I'll join enclave. Probably more cost effective than therapy.

I watched your video a few days ago and have tried this system. I am very grateful for you sharing this, it gives me boundaries yet freedom within them. And, I find I am excited for my afternoon block since I was able to stay focused in the morning and complete the important things (maybe not all I wanted, but the most important got finished or added to my catch up day). Thanks again. I hope you are all well. Haven't seen you in a few months.

This is BLOODY BRILLIANT! And here I thought this was a negative thing (bc I was already doing this or at least having the deeeeeep need for it- I'd use to say, when living alone, I know how to do it but at this point I'd hire a homeless person just to sit on my couch. Don't gotta talk or help. Just your presence) BUT NOPE! Not a negative attribute. No, you're not immature. YOU'RE CRAVING ANOTHER HEALTHY COPING SKILL!

thank u so much. this is amazing. its "kinda, sorta" what I already do, but I didn't actually plan it out, it just kinda happened like that. but then I would beat myself up at the end of the day thinking I was lazy cuz it took me so long to actually "accomplish" something. But now I understand that it is my transitioning that is happening. and that it is okay that it takes me "long" time to transition in and out of things. when I see it written down like you did, it did not make me "feel" so bad about how I was "structuring" things. do you have Facebook ? I heard you say that you had Instagram. how do I find you? do you also have Twitter?

Its too bad doctors have to charge money to help people... It's too bad some people feel entitled to someone's time and work and not to mention energy. But ADHD couches have to make a living too. If you were doing something else 40-60 hours a week and tried to help people for free in your spare time, you first of all wouldn't be able to help many and second of all would burn yourself out. Dealing with other people's disorders and problems is not a hobby, it is work. If people don't like it I suggest they go to their job and start doing it for free to prove they are good unselfish people.

Thanks for this happy video. We ordered same fridge today. (Had to give up on our Samsung 4-door stainless one. It was wonderful; I was obsessed with it...but after 6 years it went bonko and will be too expensive to fix IF it can be.) SO, decided to go way cheaper in case next one dies--they sure don't build them to last anymore...so I hear. I have heard such awful things about LG's and Samsungs that I decided to go with simple look, no ice thing on outside, slate for no fingerprints...and GE. HOPING this one lasts a bit longer. The Samsung absolutely broke my heart. I loved it soooo much.

Intermittent fasting, is an Internet fashion, without scientific basis. This type of fasting, makes health very bad, because it "overloads" and "mistreats" the pancreas. Fasting, and having low blood sugar is very detrimental to concentration and attention deficit. The best thing for ADHD is a balanced diet and prescribed by a nutrition professional, not pseudoscience. It is healthy to create good habits and what helps a lot for ADHD is regularity, however, intermittency destabilizes our biorhythm, which in turn seriously worsens brain functioning. Thank you!

Fasting helped me stop binge eating and craving bad foods which lead me to eating healthy unprocessed food and having more mental clarity and energy than ever. I thought I had chronic fatigue and I was wrong. I thought I had chronic back pain and after fasting that was fixed too. My adhd is still there but I can function 100 times better than ever. I’m now thirty and have the mental clarity and energy I never even knew I could experience because I didn’t even have that energy as a child.

    • @healthyadhd3559
      @healthyadhd3559 6 років тому

So far it is fine. No chipping or flaking. the only place there are scratches is on the handles themselves. But that happened during the installation I think. When I want to clean it I use Clorox wipes.

Dang....that was quick lol! My wife and I are having a house built and will be purchasing all new appliances so we are doing our homework. We were originally looking at the "black stainless" but we seen the GE slate and loved the matt finish. Then after more research we seen the problems with the black stainless chipping and flaking. Not seeing any info about the slate so we were wondering. I think GE is the only company doing the slate. Anyway, thanks for the video and the reply and hope you have a great Tuesday! CJ

The only thing I did was buy matching hangers (bc I didn't have matching ones before) I got like 150 of them because I realized I hate folding my clothes so I just started hanging as much as I could. I hang dresses together from long to short and then I just group pants together then shirts from long sleeve to short sleeve bc usually that's what I'm looking for.
