Some of the comments are ... funny Misery is the go-to plot device for "queer" stories, calling it "refreshing" is quite the stretch. The recurring, overused themes of heartbreak and tragedy not only reinforce the homophobic belief that gay relationships are doomed, but also deprive us of the happy stories that would refresh our/everyone's perspectives

If I wanted to bask in misery, I'd sit in a dark room with my own thoughts. I turn to gay media, looking for something different-a little light in the darkness, a rainbow after the storm. Others might have their misery marathon. I'll be over here, supporting the happy, fluffy gay stories that make my heart soar instead

i spent all of yesterday at a home for the elderly with my family and theur church group after not being able to go for a couple months, and now that i'm resting at home on sunday i'm so moved by all the joy i saw and felt yesterday. so many old ladies, a lot of them sick, dancing and singing and talking, so full of love. even the portuguese old woman chastizing me in her language for wearing a crop top made me laugh. i mean, if i can still get that much energy out of her, that makes my heart the bigger for it. all the little conversations and kisses and smiles i gave and was given yesterday will fill me for so long. christmas has always been my favorite time of year. december is just so joyful, even in the years my family has had nothing and barely survived. even my birthday is on the 24th! how couldn't i love this beautiful time of year, even if it's always getting warmer and warmer! the love of this season fuels me to a degree i feel moved to tears. i'm not even religious or spiritual, and i don't participate in most catholic traditions, but love for humanity it's enough for me 💖

I'm happy to say this is the first Christmas i've cooked for others as my mother used to do, wishing to give my friends some of that holiday love she was an expert in. We even genuinely prayed the novena with my other 30y/o friends, and sang the villancicos as little kids would. Having watched your essay, I understand now why it felt so special that night.

Indeed, "A Christmas Carol" is deeply embedded in Western culture, but what Charles Dickens published wasn't the original version. I have found evidence that he merely secularized and commercialized a Spiritualist novella written in the Christian redemption drama, by two unknown American authors named Mathew Franklin Whittier and Abby Poyen Whittier. The real power of the "Carol" came from them, rather than from Dickens, who was a sensationalist and a plagiarist. Or so my evidence clearly indicates.

After living in war-tmpoverished Finland for 3 years I disliked the fair and American culture seemed sterile on every levell. Bad food, plastic😊 design, awful music on tv. I was ready for the counter-culture and the coming Hippie movement.

Personally I've always loved sad gay movies. I love reading or watching tragedies, and I'm not into lighthearted stuff or fluffy/comedy. I find it better than now theres more variety of gay content but I hate it when people criticize on sad gay content, you can not like it, but leave it be for those who want to consumme it 🙄
