    Thanks for this interesting video. One question : would you share a website where I could find the special compatible keycaps for macOS, or a decent replacement ? I don’t mind a little fantasy, but it really bugs me that ZSA doesn’t include some with the base package. That’d be great.

    First of all, I'm super grateful that you made this video short without a lot of time-wasting rambling, so thanks for that. But its funny because I recognized the book you have in the background about responsive web design, and I wondered why you had it on the wall. I'm actually going through that book right now to polish up and get a better understanding of the front-end side of things. Can't you use solder wick instead ? also you really should use flux when soldering. as they say the difference between a pro and amateur solder is flux. I am not familiar with the guy you mentioned where you learn how to solder but if he doesn't use solder wick nor flux I don't think you should recommend him at all. also... the keycaps with legends are also made of PBT.

    Ben, thanks for the video. I switched to Glove80 from a regular Keychron K2. So ortholinear and column stagger all at once, took me a few weeks to get used to. And to get up to speed with where I was with regards to typing speed. That said, Glove80 has been a joy to use. Your video was one of the main reasons for my buying decision. I actually got it as a 2nd hand purchase (someone who ordered didn't want it anymore and was selling it). Thus, it doesn't have choc whites and have pro reds. I'm divided about desoldering pro reds and putting choc whites. As a comparison, I finally settled on kailh box whites on my Keychron after experimenting quite a bit (with Gateron browns, Cherry MX blues and kailh mints). I do really like the kailh box whites and would like to have a similar experience on the Glove (with kailh choc whites) How would you rate having to desolder pro reds on Glove 80 and putting kailh chok whites in yourself?. As someone who did that for your Advantage 360 once (yes, I did watch that video), what would be your general recommendation?

    • @benfrainuk
      @benfrainuk 13 днів тому

      I think my best advice here would be to pick up another second hand Glove80 with white switches and sell whichever of the two you like least. The MoErgo has a good buy/sell channel where you can likely pick one up soon enough. That will save you the hassle of potentially messing up and also enable you to be certain which you prefer.

    So I just ordered one tonight. Not going to lie, I am pretty nervous, coming from my GMMK Pro that I have had for the last little while, but I really am excited to see what its going to be like typing on my first split ergo board. I was so torn between this and the Glove80. I had both of them in a cart at one point ready to hit buy, but for me, not having hotswap was the major deal breaker and I really really just fell in love with the look of the voyager and the flatness of it. I also game on my stream and seen that the keywell of the Glove80 didn't really lend itself well to using WASD properly. As a software dev, I am really hoping this helps me at work too to speed up coding and being able to use modifiers a lot easier. Thanks so much for the videos, I relied on them heavily to make my decision!

The DIY approach really makes me shy away but thanks so much for pointing us in the direction of some other ergonomic keebs. Definitely gonna take a look at getting my hands on a Moonlander based on what you said! Have you ever gone back to your Dactyl? And have you got any similar opinions for ergonomic mice? The whole ergonomics discussion is a really interesting one and particularly for someone in your line of work I expect.

    Over the last year i bought a kinesis advantage 360, then a Glove80, and then a corne 42 prebuild. I am going to stick with my Corne and try to sell the other ones. The only flaw I can really sense is that the P and Q buttons are not as comfortable to hit as the Glove80, for example, but in general I feel more comfortable and faster with fewer keys. It is probably muscle memory because I only use these keyboards for work and then I am on a normal keyboard gaming all night. I appreciate the small form factor of the corne because it eats up significantly less space on my desk, and feels more similar to a normal keyboard. Using a layer for special characters and stuff is more natural since the keys are not in physically "weird" locations (offset, different shapes, up higher etc).

One of the cool things about fzf-lua is that your FZF_DEFAULT_OPTS and FZF_DEFAULT_COMMAND are honoured within neovim. So if you are using an fzf colour theme or use a particular program for file searching via fzf, all of that will carry over, and I find that it brings everything together very nicely.

    I agree and don't like the location of thumbs for many of the smaller keyboard. I rarely use the bottom row outer modifiers on my preferred board, the Reviung41. I relegate the control, alt, and enter to them. Also use tab (on both sides) for my layer 1 instead of using the bottom row. Navigation is so important as I use them more than 60% of my standard letters. I played with putting them on my base layer on the ;./, but also looked for smaller keyboards that had dedicated arrows. I also use lighter switches for my nav layer key. The 40% movement is all about removing what you don't need and keeping what you do. There are quite a few keyboards out there that are in the 40's camp. I'm very happy programming on a little keyboard, but agreed - different things work for different people. Great job giving it an honest effort and thanks for posting about it.

    With either small keyboard, you could try getting a second keyboard that is just a number pad or arrow pad.

      That kind of makes the argument for just having the keys you actually need on a single keyboard though!

      @@benfrainuk Sure, but none of the ergo, columnar keyboards that I know of have a number pad or arrow pad. Also having separate pieces would allow you to position them for greater ergonomics and keep the footprint small when you don't need the extra keys, like when traveling. And there are other situational benefits to separate boards. I have a media control 3x3 keyboard plugged into my personal machine, so that when I KVM switch my main keyboard over to my work machine, I can still control the music that's playing.

    A year ago I was using a moonlander, and went down bit by bit to about 44 keys. Then I switched to a sofle choc, to get the short stroke mechanical switches, but I realized I didn't need the outer column or the number row. Now I have a 36 key Corne 5x3+3, but I want a pinky column that's more aggressively staggered. I ordered a ferris sweep 5x3+2 kit, which should arrive by the end of the month.

    Can you do mouse control? Or only muse button clicks?

    I love Colemak-DH and the MBK keycaps. Unfortunately, it was just too much of a hassle when gaming so I had to go back to the far inferior QWERTY.

    Arrow keys are definitely really hard to put under a layer. Shoot, whether in work or play, I use them ALL the time. I have a Dygma Defy and counter to what a lot of people seem to recommend, I have my arrow keys in one of the thumb clusters, for each layer. I just can't give them up.

    Better Display app can probably fix that. Even if you have to clone the EDID of another monitor.
