Did u hv a video that y tlkd about Jeeves w wood house?
Happy New Year, Celeste! I love the illustrations in your O Pioneers! I have Frozen River on hold but still have 16 weeks left to wait for it!😅 I’ve read Brother’s keeper, I look forward to your thoughts on it.❤
I think your plan is good! After all why read at all if not for enjoyment? So read and enjoy, don’t zip through and just count books. Happy new year and happy reading.😊😊😊
The same to you, Cassandra! I'm also enjoying audiobooks and may do a whole video just on those! Happy New Year to you! 😊
Can you direct me to your miss marple video?
Hi Judy! I don’t have any videos entirely devoted to the subject of Miss Marple, but I have reviewed several Miss Marple books. I can recommend some, though!
@ yes… your top ones…
@@judykovach6912 A Caribbean Mystery is a classic!
Judy, I've been thinking about your question and have decided to do an Agatha Christie video very soon. : ) In the interim, I would also recommend A Murder is Announced. And, for a Tommy and Tuppence book, try By the Pricking of My Thumbs! It's not Miss Marple, but still quite good. I discuss it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/a1zZo9l_lBk/v-deo.htmlsi=JnfEA5XMgfe_TVpC&t=1
@ ohhh, thank you 😁
This was such an inspiring video!! I love your reading notebook, so I'm going to do the same. Like yours, I'll include my Nancy Drew (and my Trixie Belden) lists, my Newbery medal/honors list, and I'm going to try the Book Voyage Tracker and the Children's Reading Across America Challenge. I'm so excited to finally organize my reading all in one place! I've read Miracles On Maple Hill and I adored it's winter setting and the portrayal of old-fashioned country life. I had never heard of Brother's Keeper, but it sounds very interesting so I'm picking it up from my library. I'm looking forward to 2025's reading adventures! 💜
Oh, I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed Miracles on Maple Hill. Getting psyched to read it! I just added links to the challenges and printable book trackers above.
@@areadersalmanacwithceleste1366 Thank you!
I am really enjoying your channel! I can definitely recommend T. Kingfisher; she is a great writer. My favorite so far has been "What Moves The Dead," a retelling of "Fall of the House of Usher." Also love your attention to the Newberry Award winners; that's an ongoing challenge of mine as well. I haven't read "Oh, Pioneers!" but I did love "My Antonia." I am also taking notes on your January choices because they all look great. 😊 Stay warm!
@carrielgs Hello, and welcome! So glad you're enjoying the channel and I appreciate the vote for T. Kingfisher. I first heard of her from my friend Deea and am looking forward to reading some of these books. If you have any Newberry Award winners to recommend, do let me know! Thanks so much! 😊
Happy New Year Celeste. Have you ever read The Midwife's Tale The Life of Martha Ballard based on her Diary 1785 - 1812 by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich? I think Ballard lived in Maine. I read it years ago but it has stayed with me for the amazing account of all the births and deaths she attended. By the way, I enjoyed very much watching your "method to your madness" with your new plan to conquer your reading this year. I'm in a similar boat.
UGH! Spoke to soon....you're talking about it now! Was so caught up in your wheel and game, etc.
Happy New Year, Donna! Thank goodness it's understandable! It all made sense to me when I was filming it, but this morning when I went back to watch it I was like, "what am I even TALKING about in this video?" LOL! I was concerned it wouldn't make any sense. The diary is so cool! Did you know there's also a PBS documentary on that book? It's really fascinating and the author shows how she pieced together Martha Ballard's world. Now I'm all excited about everyday life in America in the 1700's.
@@donnamacdonald2200 It's easy to get caught up in the wheel and the game! 😊
I'd like to recommend a book I think you'll love. If you haven't read The Lighted Heart by Elizabeth Yates, the Newbery author, you should look for it. It's the memoir of when her husband was going blind and they moved to an old house on a farm in New England. Full of nature, good neighbors and real life, I hugged this book after I finished it. Several friends have now read it and loved it just as much and are passing it to their friends, too. I do something I call My Personal Bookclub every year, where I set general goals for myself to help me stay on track. This year I have Vintage mysteries and books in translation as a couple goals this year. Happy reading!
The last selection with all the children's books made my heart swoon!! I ended up buying two of them. Granite Harbor and Brothers Keepers! Looking forward to reading them. Thank you for sharing. Happy New Years
I know -- I just love those covers! Hope they're good reads for you!
I love that you are focusing on reading less but with more intent! That is the way I read and I find I enjoy being in the world of a book longer and really absorbing and living in it; (and I just read slower than most people anyway!). Trying to push myself to fly through a book removes me from the experience and I then just feel apathetic - like I have missed an opportunity to make a friend that was trying to get to know me. I give myself one classic per month, one out-of-print vintage, one contemporary new release (on audio) and then one wild card mood read (and then of course there are the books my son and I read for read-aloud). It's the best I can do! You can start a new "slow reading" movement Celeste!!!🥰 Have a lovely day!
Hi Heather! Yes! That's it exactly - the way you describe staying in the world of the book longer and living in it. After all, that's what we did as children. We discovered books and read them, immersive in their worlds, without thoughts of productivity or stats! I think the number of books you're reading per month is fantastic, and with being a mom and working too, we can't always have time for giant piles of books towering over our heads in thumbnail photos! That's definitely triggered by algorithms promoting consumption. Here's to the Slow Reading Movement! You're actually inspiring me to slow down even more! Right now I'm at 85 books for my goal, but I may lower it!😊
PS. Love that in addition to classics and vintage reads, you're also reading some contemporary books too! It's crazy that with 2025, we've already reached a quarter of the 21st century. There are some really lovely and poignant contemporary books out there, not to mention nonfiction. Time to explore some of them!
You have inspired me to put together a binder for myself! I did go through and make a list of all the books that I would love to read and that have been in my queue for too long (the ones that get pushed aside for mood reading). Those I wrote down onto strips of paper and folded them into origami stars. That's something I've done in the past and it worked quite well. I have the same goal this year with quality over quantity.
That sounds like so much fun! Origami stars gives it the sense of a fun ritual. : )
I just finished reading The Frozen River and loved it
Yay! Another vote for The Frozen River! Thanks for letting me know! : )
Your very Welcome glad I could help
Good Morning! Watched this with my first cup of coffee this morning! Wow! Great plans! So many interesting books! I look forward to seeing your choices every month. 💕
The spinner is so much fun! Tempted to get another one, but that would defeat the purpose of saving money on books, LOL!
I bought the 'Frozen River' after seeing Miriam and Jenna's channels, both of them liked it. So I'll be reading it this winter, let's compare notes! I'm glad it's not just me accumulating books in all formats. I was tempted by the audio sale and bought 2 for 1, only to find I'd already read 'The Frozen Lake' by Elizabeth Edmondson. I still enjoyed it though, listening to it over a few days, there was a lot of ironing to do. Happy New Year.
Ironing is a great time for audiobooks! : ) Glad you enjoyed The Frozen River! Just started it and enjoying it very much, so far!
What fabulous plans. I love your challenges. I’m also midway through an around the world challenge and loving it. Happy New Year and happy reading Celeste 😊
I'll have to catch up on your videos and will look for you around the wordl recommendations, Debs!

Happy New Year! What are your bookish plans for 2025? That’s what I’m chatting about in this latest video! ❤
I did not see this video until just now. Truly your son has a beautiful voice ! I love seeing the love and bond between you two. Many mothers would give anything to be loved so well. He hit every note beautifully and I love his expressiveness too. Your alleluia at the end was perfect. Please tell him how he made an old woman in South Carolina smile and made me cry tears of joy and love. I always look forward to your videos like a dear visit from a kindred spirit. Happy new year to you. Celeste and to your family. I pray this year brings good health and cheer for us all. God knows we will need it.
Happy New Year, Barbara! Thank you so much for your kind words about my son. We do have a very close and special relationship and I'm so happy that it's evident. I hope you had a happy and peaceful holiday and I wish you much happiness and wonderful books in the new year!

Thank you for the recommendations and the gift of your son's singing. 🙂 Our family celebrates Jolabokaflod but we do it on New Year's Eve. I think I will either read Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan or read The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett. Merry Christmas!
The Chinese Shawl was a favorite for me too. The other Miss Silver that I thought would make a good movie would be Lonesome Road. I loved Disney’s Thomasina as a child. Didn’t realize that those old ones were still streaming somewhere.
Yes! Lonesome Road! And Thomasina is actually right here on UA-cam! ua-cam.com/video/D4ebqRGt7e4/v-deo.html

I really enjoyed The Fox Wife, too. My favorite book of the year was The Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff, which managed to provide social commentary on the lives of women in contemporary India while still being laugh-out-loud funny. I also enjoyed Lolly Willows, Olive Kitteridge, and Thornyhold, my first Mary Stewart book. I've added The Home Maker to the top of my tbr. I'm looking forward to seeing all your book reviews and recommendations in 2025! 💜

Oh...and Thomasina!!! One of my best friends has been telling me to read "Jennie" by Paul Gallico for some time now. I need to read that one too. I am EXTREMELY jealous of your copy of Thomasina! 😻
It’s a perfect reading size!
Hey Celeste, I watched this video in the wee hours of the morning and loved it! Then I watched it again after breakfast. So many wonderful books. You did have a great reading year! Of your list I most wish to read Penelope Farmer, it sounds amazing! Edith Wharton and H.G. Wells are two authors I want to read in 2025. Actually, there are so many! I also LOVE how you divided them up into months! Stand by for my favorite reads...although it may not be my very next video, but the one after (so many videos, so little time! ha ha). I love that color of your ring...stunning! Have a lovely Sunday!💗

Thank you, Merry Christmas to you as well!🎄
Looking forward to reading and watching Thomisina!
Wonderful! I hope you'll enjoy both!
I've just read 'The Great Ghost Rescue' by Eva Ibbotson, which is a children's book, if I had children young enough, I'd have kept it. My favourite for the year would be Ferdia Lennon's 'Glorious Exploits' a couple of potters feed Athenian prisoners in exchange for putting on plays, written in an Irish dialect. It's a bit like being sat in an Irish bar and told a story. I like the way the story just is, the lack of a didactic author telling you to think a certain way about the situation, and there's a touch of the Hans Solo about it: stepping up to heroics, not necessarily being the best intentioned person to start with.
Glorious Exploits sounds so interesting! I need to see that! Thanks for your support this year and have a lovely holiday season!
Such a sweet ending
Thank you!
Love your list!! My favourite books this year were Beartown, Tale for time being and Paper Menagerie and other stories!!
Thanks for these titles! I've considered reading Bearttown, and will check out the other two.
Beautiful singing! Merry Christmas 🎄 😘
Thanks for watching and reaching out!
I’d love to hear what your favorite books were, in 2024! Not necessarily “new”, but new to you! ❤
Thank you Celeste for sharing your best books for 2024. A great list. I’m going to purchase, The Homemaker, based on your review. Thank you : ) Throughout the year I’ve bought online a few books you’ve recommended (specifically, The Morning Gift, Thomasina, The Memory Police and a few others that you didn’t list, though I can’t remember them at the top of my head). Unfortunately, I’ve not yet got around to reading them because of all the other books I’m reading, but I will get there. My goal in 2025 is to put a stop to buying books for 12 months, so I can read some of the amazing books I already have on my shelf. In 2024, I read, to date, a total of 51 books. Based on your question, my favourite book (series) was an equal first, Little on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder and the Emily trilogy by L M Montgomery. Excellent! Though hard to pick one favourite (stand alone) book, I have chosen, The Blue Castle, by L M Montgomery. It was funny and heart warming. L M Montgomery was an amazing writer. Celeste, I just want to take this opportunity to wish you (and your son) a very happy Christmas 🎄and a wonderful 2025 ✨I don’t comment on each video, but I do watch them, so thank you for all you do: it’s an inspiring channel 📚
