I think your plan is good! After all why read at all if not for enjoyment? So read and enjoy, don’t zip through and just count books. Happy new year and happy reading.😊😊😊
I am really enjoying your channel! I can definitely recommend T. Kingfisher; she is a great writer. My favorite so far has been "What Moves The Dead," a retelling of "Fall of the House of Usher." Also love your attention to the Newberry Award winners; that's an ongoing challenge of mine as well. I haven't read "Oh, Pioneers!" but I did love "My Antonia." I am also taking notes on your January choices because they all look great. 😊 Stay warm!
@carrielgs Hello, and welcome! So glad you're enjoying the channel and I appreciate the vote for T. Kingfisher. I first heard of her from my friend Deea and am looking forward to reading some of these books. If you have any Newberry Award winners to recommend, do let me know! Thanks so much! 😊
I love that you are focusing on reading less but with more intent! That is the way I read and I find I enjoy being in the world of a book longer and really absorbing and living in it; (and I just read slower than most people anyway!). Trying to push myself to fly through a book removes me from the experience and I then just feel apathetic - like I have missed an opportunity to make a friend that was trying to get to know me. I give myself one classic per month, one out-of-print vintage, one contemporary new release (on audio) and then one wild card mood read (and then of course there are the books my son and I read for read-aloud). It's the best I can do! You can start a new "slow reading" movement Celeste!!!🥰 Have a lovely day!
Hi Heather! Yes! That's it exactly - the way you describe staying in the world of the book longer and living in it. After all, that's what we did as children. We discovered books and read them, immersive in their worlds, without thoughts of productivity or stats! I think the number of books you're reading per month is fantastic, and with being a mom and working too, we can't always have time for giant piles of books towering over our heads in thumbnail photos! That's definitely triggered by algorithms promoting consumption. Here's to the Slow Reading Movement! You're actually inspiring me to slow down even more! Right now I'm at 85 books for my goal, but I may lower it!😊
PS. Love that in addition to classics and vintage reads, you're also reading some contemporary books too! It's crazy that with 2025, we've already reached a quarter of the 21st century. There are some really lovely and poignant contemporary books out there, not to mention nonfiction. Time to explore some of them!
Happy New Year, Celeste! I love the illustrations in your O Pioneers! I have Frozen River on hold but still have 16 weeks left to wait for it!😅 I’ve read Brother’s keeper, I look forward to your thoughts on it.❤
You have inspired me to put together a binder for myself! I did go through and make a list of all the books that I would love to read and that have been in my queue for too long (the ones that get pushed aside for mood reading). Those I wrote down onto strips of paper and folded them into origami stars. That's something I've done in the past and it worked quite well. I have the same goal this year with quality over quantity.
The last selection with all the children's books made my heart swoon!! I ended up buying two of them. Granite Harbor and Brothers Keepers! Looking forward to reading them. Thank you for sharing. Happy New Years
This was such an inspiring video!! I love your reading notebook, so I'm going to do the same. Like yours, I'll include my Nancy Drew (and my Trixie Belden) lists, my Newbery medal/honors list, and I'm going to try the Book Voyage Tracker and the Children's Reading Across America Challenge. I'm so excited to finally organize my reading all in one place! I've read Miracles On Maple Hill and I adored it's winter setting and the portrayal of old-fashioned country life. I had never heard of Brother's Keeper, but it sounds very interesting so I'm picking it up from my library. I'm looking forward to 2025's reading adventures! 💜
Oh, I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed Miracles on Maple Hill. Getting psyched to read it! I just added links to the challenges and printable book trackers above.
Good Morning! Watched this with my first cup of coffee this morning! Wow! Great plans! So many interesting books! I look forward to seeing your choices every month. 💕
Happy New Year Celeste. Have you ever read The Midwife's Tale The Life of Martha Ballard based on her Diary 1785 - 1812 by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich? I think Ballard lived in Maine. I read it years ago but it has stayed with me for the amazing account of all the births and deaths she attended. By the way, I enjoyed very much watching your "method to your madness" with your new plan to conquer your reading this year. I'm in a similar boat.
Happy New Year, Donna! Thank goodness it's understandable! It all made sense to me when I was filming it, but this morning when I went back to watch it I was like, "what am I even TALKING about in this video?" LOL! I was concerned it wouldn't make any sense. The diary is so cool! Did you know there's also a PBS documentary on that book? It's really fascinating and the author shows how she pieced together Martha Ballard's world. Now I'm all excited about everyday life in America in the 1700's.
What fabulous plans. I love your challenges. I’m also midway through an around the world challenge and loving it. Happy New Year and happy reading Celeste 😊
I bought the 'Frozen River' after seeing Miriam and Jenna's channels, both of them liked it. So I'll be reading it this winter, let's compare notes! I'm glad it's not just me accumulating books in all formats. I was tempted by the audio sale and bought 2 for 1, only to find I'd already read 'The Frozen Lake' by Elizabeth Edmondson. I still enjoyed it though, listening to it over a few days, there was a lot of ironing to do. Happy New Year.
Hi Judy! I don’t have any videos entirely devoted to the subject of Miss Marple, but I have reviewed several Miss Marple books. I can recommend some, though!
Judy, I've been thinking about your question and have decided to do an Agatha Christie video very soon. : ) In the interim, I would also recommend A Murder is Announced. And, for a Tommy and Tuppence book, try By the Pricking of My Thumbs! It's not Miss Marple, but still quite good. I discuss it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/a1zZo9l_lBk/v-deo.htmlsi=JnfEA5XMgfe_TVpC&t=1
Happy New Year! What are your bookish plans for 2025? That’s what I’m chatting about in this latest video! ❤

The same to you, Cassandra! I'm also enjoying audiobooks and may do a whole video just on those! Happy New Year to you! 😊

That sounds like so much fun! Origami stars gives it the sense of a fun ritual. : )

The spinner is so much fun! Tempted to get another one, but that would defeat the purpose of saving money on books, LOL!
