6.8 Western vs 7mm Remington Magnum! Not even close! @masonleather_outdoors
Just a heads up, Brownells has their no hazmat fee. Just picked up 2# of n565 for 140'sh beans with shipping. Also, I mostly deal with vortex. Leupold is great, just pricier. Never tried a lot of those others like arken, athlon, etc.
All those scopes you mentioned are really good. I just got my Magpro the other day. It's one of the hotrod powders. It should work. Thanks for the heads-up.
Check out the vortex viper hd. They just released them in 2024 they use Japanese glass and you can get them for around $600 in the 3-15. They’re also pretty lightweight at 22.5 oz
I have seen those. I'll have check out some reviews. Thanks for watching!
😃 HOW HAVE YOU BEEN? 🤷♂️
I've been good. It's too cold to go to the range. I'm finally going to pick up my AAA maple model 70 on Saturday!
@@montanamusings 🤯 WOW! NICE!!! 🤗

Lovely. I’m looking to get a Bushnell Match Pro ED 5-30x56 for my howa mini 6arc on an oryx chassis, and I’m curious how low those rings are on your setup in this video are? I’m interested in getting the Area 419 tactical one piece scope mount which are 1.26” high to fit the 34mm scope tubes. If your mounts here are lower than 1.26” then I feel confident I can purchase ahead and wait till my scope arrives.
I didn't measure them, but I know they are medium height. I will measure them and get back to you.
So I measured from the top of the rail to the bottom of the tube. 3/8ths. From the top of the rail to the center of the ring is 1 1/6th"
@@montanamusings that’s helpful, very much appreciated.
@joeyzagari4155 I have about 1/4" clearance between the barrel and the bell of the scope.
@@montanamusings awesome, based on these numbers, the area 419 tactical one-piece mount with 1.26” high from top of rail to centre of tube should produce slightly more bell clearance than what you have. I’ll guess the final sight above bore will be in the realm of around 2” or close to that.
Why have a 20MOA rail when surely many scopes can dial enough elevation for 500-1000yds? And why 20MOA rail if using MRAD scope or dial in mils and tenths? Why not a 3 or 5 or 7 or 9 MRAD rail to match?
Simple answer, everyone said you need a 20moa rail. I shot out to 1435 once, and we also have a shoot that's 1800 yards. I think it's better to have too much than not enough. My 108's are going 2600 fps, so that's a lot of drop out that far.
zeiss conquest v4 4-16x44 will set back only $799 on amazon rn or maybe an athlon argos 4-20x50 for $370
I'm leaning towards Zeiss. Thanks for watching!
Could just use a socket.
I thought about trying that.
Look at Meopta, made in the Czech Republic, awesome glass! I keep hearing issues with Ziess and their customer service.
Gonna hit coyotes and gophers?
Somebody will. It's for sale.
A classy rifle like that requires a classy scope. Leupold VX-5 is the perfect scope for this rifle.
Arken* would be my first choice but that's mostly because it's what I'm looking at getting. I'm between the LH and EPL lines
My friend is a Zeiss dealer. I've never had one, so I'm leaning that way.
Model 70 is a classic rifle. The only real choice to compliment that rifle is LEUPOLD. Classic rifle. Classic scope. And while the Mark 5 & 6 are really cool... they both have more features than suits the pretty rifle you're getting. So a VX-III or VX-IV with a 30mm tube would be perfect. Not sure what distances you'll be shooting, but don't over-scope this rifle. It'll be heavier, less attractive... and you won't likely use the high power tactical features on this rifle platform. That said. I try very hard to NOT buy ANYTHING from China. My second choice would be MAVEN, out of Wyoming. Or SWFA. I have the Zeiss V4. It's a good scope, but I still prefer the Leupold VX-IV over it by far, and the prices are possibly better. Both are made in Japan. My VX-III & IV scopes are better in low light.
Thank you for your comments!
I’ve got a Model 70 6.8 ln the Maple. Not a better looking rifle on the planet. I’ve got the Arken EP 5 5-25x56. They are perfect together.
I have that scope on my 6ARC. I'm going lighter on this one. Probably the Zeiss. I'll have to save up for that one.
Leupold VX 5HD…for hunting. Leupold Mark 4 for more of a tactical usage. In fact, buy them both. Scopes are tools…different tools for different applications. I own a model 70 Super Grade. So, anything north of 20 ounces is going to just add more weight to an already heavy-ish rifle.
Thank you for your insight. 👍
👍👍
How about the Arken, my second choice would be Vortex.
Agreed.
@@Jacobs_Custom_Gun_Works The Arkens we got recently were impressive.
Are you looking for a second or first focal plane scope, what are you more drawn towards? Also am I correct to assume you aren't looking at anything above a 16 power magnification on the top end? You could take a look at the Trijicon Creedo 3-9x40. I think they go for around $850, so a touch cheaper than the Zeiss. I really liked my Zeiss Conquest V4 6-24 I had on my 6.8 Western as it served me well for a couple of hunting seasons. I did swap it out to a Leupold Mk 4HD for the first focal plane capabilities. If you are wanting a killer deal on the Zeiss Conquest, I could hook you up with mine 😁😉
Zeiss V4.
I like the $1200 one in the video.
Perks of knowing a Zeiss Dealer.
@SkogensOutdoors, So true!
A M70 like that deserves good glass. My splurge glass was a Leica Amplus 6 2.5-15 I got for less than a similar Zeiss. I love it. I also have a few Meopta's which are nice and not made in China.
Thank you sir!
Take a look at gpo and maven also good glass lil cheaper
Thank you sir!
I vote, put the glass on that you have from your other rifle, and make sure the new Win shoots and meets the expectations that you're hoping for it. If the rifle's a keeper, and it's a special one to you, then reset your price range from $800 to $1200. Wait a few months to buy? I had been looking at a higher manification, but I noticed an Athlon Ares ETR model, 3-18x, 720 beans. Really nice glass.
@craigm1954 Great point about making sure it shoots before spending money on a new scope.
I prefer Leupold scopes.
Are you selling your Browning 6.8?
Please look at the Athlon Helos line. The 4-20 would be well within you budget and it is a lot lighter. Let me know if you want to talk about it sometime.
I actually have that one on my 6 ARC gas gun. It's a dandy.
@@montanamusings Glad you listened the first time. Now add a second. Or even add a Midas Tac

I’d highly recommend learning how you use GRT (Gordon’s reloading tool) to assist with load dev simulation and looking for correct burn and load ratios Will save you time, money and barrel life Look at reloder 16, Magpro is decent as well
Thank you. @ReloadingWeatherby uses it. I just looked at it the weekend. It looks like a very good tool. Thanks for watching!
Very Nice
Not sure how high in weight you want to go but a buddy is getting Berger 170’s in a 22” at 2860 using Ramshot Grand. I’m waiting on my barrel but am planning to try Grand, Magnum and Staball HD once it’s put together.
I've got Magpro coming Monday. It should do the trick. Thanks for watching!
I ran out and picked up an X-bolt Speed LR when I realized Browning discontinued it after coming out with the X-bolt II. It is a really good rifle and shoots some of the tightest groups I have ever gotten.
If you are happy with it, it doesn't matter what comes out next. Good luck!
Brownells has some N565, but with shipping it's pretty pricey. I keep trying to find it myself in the shop to avoid the extra $$
That's where I ordered my Magpro. I didn't notice it.😪 Thanks for the heads-up.
I got the notification that it was back in stock yesterday. Still there for just under 60 beans 👍
You know me....thread then suppress that rifle! After watching a popular UA-camr I copied him and got my 44mag Deagle suppressed and will do the same with the 50ae.
You are so suppressing!😂
@@montanamusings lol so whenever I hit the range I'll bring it just in case you're there to try it out.
@J_D_Rambro, that would be awesome!
Get the model 70 and thread it
Done deal! Thanks for watching!

How do you like that Lee press? I'm about to get into reloading and the Lee Challenger kit seems like a good value.
Lee is good stuff. Perfect if you're just getting started. Good luck!
I’ve been dropping deer with them out of my 6 arc!
They shoot pretty darn good. Thanks for watching!
Yeah im making my video on this scope today. And ill be looking at how much this has improved compared to the last G3 scope monstrum had...its amazing how far monstrum has come already 😅
