Norma brass, 73.8 grains of N568 powder, COAL about 3.6", which still gives a full shank in the neck of the brass. That rifle has a 1:8" twist 26" barrel. That rifle, with that load, carries 1,800 ft-lbs of retained kinetic energy well past 1,000 yards. No way a 6.8 Western can compete with that. You just need to compare apples to apples when it comes to barrel length and twist rate, and you need to develop the best possible load for each rifle before comparing loads. If you want more performance than a 7 Rem Mag in a 7mm caliber, you have a few alternatives, and they're all barrel burners: STW, Weatherby, RUM, Nosler 28. The Western can't compete with a modernized, properly loaded 7 Rem Mag. Spend some time with QuickLoad, and consider non-SAAMI twist rates on the older cartridges, before being so quick to dismiss them. Slow-burning modern powders mean the calibers based on the 300 Win Mag brass can make the most of their case capacity. Load 'em right and they'll make good use of every grain. More "modern" cartridges with less case capacity simply won't keep up.

The 7mm RM Takes 63 grains of Reloader 22 To Produce a Velocity of 3,058 ft/s and a Maxium Case Capacity of 85% (Which Isn't Good For Accuracy)! Meanwhile, The 270 wsm Uses 61.0 grains of the same powder to Get 3,088 ft/s and at a Case Capacity of 92%! Simply Put, The 270 WSM is More Efficient, as Is The 6.8 Western When Compared to the 7mm RM Using Heavier Bullets! 😃

So, Let's Compare "Cartridge Efficiency" and Case Capacity of the 7mm Remington Magnum Verses The 270 WSM, Using The Nosler Manual and a 160 grain Bullet! 🕵♂️
NOSLER Says It Takes 72 Grains of Magpro (The Powder Listed as The One Producing The Fastest Velocity For the 7mm RM) for the 7mm Rem. Mag. To Get a Velocity of 3,072 ft/s and at 92% Load Capacity! Meanwhile, The 270 wsm needs only 67.5 grains of the same powder to get 3,082 ft/s at a 95% case capacity! 😮
💯💯💯
That's why slightly crushed loads are not a bad thing as long as it's not overpreasured.
EFFICIENCY!
@montanamusings So, Let Look at The Next Fastest "Common Powder" For Both Cartridges! 😃
Cherry picking data to prove a non existent point. Check out what they get handholding the 7mag. The 6.8 would shit itself.
Cherry picking is for folks living in Washington State. 😂 Once again, factory ammo comparison. Handloads are a different story.
@montanamusings choice ammunition has 7 rem mag eld x 175 going at an advertised 2886. That would be a more fair comparison then junk remington core... your taking a bullet not designed for long range, non boat tail, and comparing it the an optimized long range bullet. So yeah cherry picking data.
@montanamusings don't get me wrong I probably will get one at some point. Not because it outperforms my 7 prc with hand loads, but because it gets close, and that's pretty cool.
This is why hornady won't get behind 6.8 western as it out performs many cartridges. I use a 160gr copper bullets, the 170 gr berger and the 165 gr nosler.
I picked up some 155 grain LRX's to reload. I hope they shoot good. Thanks for watching!
Lmao no it doesn't. Stop being silly.
36 yard zero aiming at 100 yards is 2.1 inches high. For real!😂
@@montanamusings also equals guessing. I'm into precision. Bullseye at 100. Each their own.
Ummm…you may want to rethink your position…the 7 REM Mag will exceed both the 6.8 and the 7 PRC especially now that the 7 REM Mag is offered in a 1:8 twist barrel
Don’t take my word for it…head on over to Little Crow Gun Works…to date, he has 10 episodes worth of knowledge and proof.
You can thank me later.
I have watched some of the series. Great information. Most people don't own custom rifles with 1-8 twist barrels. I'm putting out information that is readily available to the average hunter who buys a couple boxes of ammo per year.
@@montanamusings…both Browning and Remington have 1:8 offerings in 7 REM Mag. This will soon result in 175 Gr ABLR offerings🤞🏼
@BZE_Fishin, Nice!
Any real shooters handload. Factory means nothing. 7 mag destroys most cartridges. Let me know when you can produce 1600lbs or more at 1000 yards.
I'll see what I can do. Thanks for watching!
