2001 BMW Z3 Coupe 5spd Road Test - New Old Cars TV
It's October of 2000.
Honda and Mercedes just pulled the covers off their new sports cars, the S2000 and SLK32 AMG, while Porsche recently released the "S" version of their Boxster.
On the other hand, BMW engineering is in full swing, introducing new engines and a mid-cycle refresh across their entire lineup of vehicles.
The most overlooked car in that lineup? The Z3 Coupe, of which BMW sold just 883 units for the 2000 MY (US)
Sporting a new 3.0L M54 engine, the updated Z3 Coupe now packs a punch that's nearly as strong as the old M car.
As a fresh 2001 model arrives at our doorstep, we wondered if the extra power, bigger brakes, and M-spec tires are enough to officially make this the best driver's car under $40k...
Or will this bread van be relegated to nothing more than a forgotten fad in BMWs illustrious history of magnificent sports cars?
Watch us take a bone stock Z3 to hell and back to reach our verdict!

1996 Toyota Previa Supercharged Road Test - New Old Cars TV
Переглядів 7 тис.6 місяців тому
It's October 1995. SUV sales are at an all-time high, making up 20% of new vehicle sales in the US. The minivan segment has blossomed with an overwhelming variety of options from Japan and America. The Previa, which was once one of the premier minivan choices for buyers, is struggling to remain relevant with its relatively high price tag (roughly $5k higher than the equivalent Grand Caravan) Th...
1990 Chevrolet C4 Corvette Z51 6spd Road Test - New Old Cars TV
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
. It's November 1989. Over the last few years, the C4 Corvette made a name for itself after utterly annihilating the competition in SCCA Showroom Stock Racing, most notably Porsche. Racing school owner John Powell sums it up: "The Corvette beat Porsche 29-0 from 1985 to 1987." And they weren’t just winning - they were often finishing in the top 5 to 8 places. The races were so one-sided that SC...
The TRUTH about Paint Thickness on Cars - Understanding the Paint Meter
Переглядів 3,6 тис.Рік тому
Before you bid on another online car auction - make sure you truly understand what those paint meter readings are telling you! In this video, you'll learn why: - There isn’t a “factory” thickness rating for your car - factory readings can vary drastically between panels (and even within the same panel) - There’s no “universal” number to adhere by when comparing readings - If you’re looking for ...
1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe Road Test - New Old Cars TV
Переглядів 18 тис.Рік тому
. It's November 1987. Ford recently gave its fabled Thunderbird a $250k refresh to help bolster depressing sales numbers. In the process, the transformation gave birth to the sportiest, most aerodynamic Thunderbird built to date: the 190hp Turbo Coupe, with its iconic "Aero Bird" grill-less nose. The SVO Turbo engine easily made it the most unique car in its class, but was it the right fit for ...
1995 Acura Integra GS-R Road Test - New Old Cars TV
Переглядів 9 тис.Рік тому
. It's September 1994... a shiny, brand-new, bone-stock GS-R is delivered to our headquarters, along with multiple sets of tires. At this point in time, the Type R was non-existent on US shores, the NSX still had a 5spd, and the word "VTEC" was still an unfamiliar term in the US car scene. With an engine that made more power per liter than any production engine in the world when it was revealed...

I bought the exact car in 1987. White/red leather. Added a whale-tail. Was a great car for the day. Mine also had turning lights and sun roof. You could trick the turbo to go full by feathering the clutch so really no lag. Ran like new still at 140,000. Went to 130 mph at 2 am on I-80 in Ohio. Fast enough for me.

Way better than Top Gear reviews! There is a 90s or even 80s vibe about the narration and video editing. Which isn't a bad thing. I agree, this channel deserves more interest and subscribers. "Build it and they will come.", they said. Looking forward to upcoming videos! 👍👌😎

Instantly subbed, where has this channel been all my life?!?!? Edit: placed my comment too early. This has to be the most thorough car review channel going on youtube. You are a great presenter clearly, and the video is paced like good old tv now modern overacted adhd garbage. You hit everything everyone wants to know, the common annoyances, but how it handles on the skidpad, track, and the road. Im truly impressed, you have nailed the formula and I'm excited to see this channel grow. Now I'm on the binging the channel, thankfully my shoe obsession led me here lol. It does in fact make a great daily driver, even with 180k miles, a list of previous owners that neglected the poor thing, and the 2.8l. Still the most enjoyable daily I've ever driven. PS: Good old glovebox sag due to the US crash test requiring a heavy steel panel to be placed in the glove box door for a passengers knees in the event they weren't belted in. Such a shame its ruined so many box doors including mine that is now full of self tapping screws from the PO :(

A very innovative vehicle for its time that was hampered by an extremely high price tag... in adjusted dollars, the Previa was monstrously expensive in todays money... a fully loaded model would crest 70,000 Canadian dollars in todays money... great van... but Sienna was what people were asking for... I had two of these and know their benefits and quirks. The rear sets folding to the sides were neat but extremely dangerous if folded flat and someone pulled the cord without holding the seatback... it would snap forward at such a speed that it would easily break your neck or hurt you... but otherwise a great handling, fun and very good looking van for its time.

RE f/r brake bias; Doug Rippie master cylinder spring. imho DRM is the Guru on these cars and the Corvette Challenge series. Fun fact; The C4 decimated everything in SCCA showroom stock for 3 or 4 years straight until the SCCA would no longer let them compete. That is why the Corvette Challenge Series was born. Vids of the race are still on youtube.

    • @newoldcars

I have both the coupe 3.0 and roadster 3.0. Indeed you may be able to chase higher times in the coupe, but if equally modified, they are quite similar in performance. Stiff subframe bushings help combat the rear end unpredictability along with camber/toe kits.

Wow! Excellent review and Chanel ! I own this Z3 3.0l Coupe from 2001 with style 32 rims (it's the 2nd one I owned before I had the 2.8 from 1999 for 10 years) and I can say that it's a great pleasure to drive it ! I lives in France and the roads in a small town are very bad but the car remains comfortable, and the power as well as the torque with the Vanos system is excellent! very easy to maintain and reliable engine. The M54 consumes a little oil (maybe 1L/1000kms BMW tolerance) but everything is fine on this car! if you are hesitant to buy it, don't hesitate too much because someone will buy it before you!

Great review of our beloved elf hearse, I have owned mine for 16,5 years now and driven it almost 200000kms myself. I manufacture aircraft quality billet rear shock access hatches which makes adjusting or removing rear shocks a 5 second breeze instead of 4 hours of sweat. Another parts are too available including brake cooling vents, ramair parts, fronf splitter and rear diffuser. All actually working and OEM+ in design and craftmanship. High speed lightness that you feel is exactly that, rear floor of the car with rear bumper is generating tons of lift, It can be remedied and I have remedied that completely into making downforce instead and it transforms the car. ps. Steering rate is the exact same in all coupes M or not. pps. Excellent music choises through out. (Yes I am biased as techno dj too. :D)

    • @newoldcars
      @newoldcars 2 місяці тому

Sweet! That sounds like an obvious upgrade for Coupe owners! Great explanation on the rear lift, makes total sense and interesting about the steering. 2001 BMW press kit says the non-M Z3's (Coupe and Roadster) share the same 15.4:1 steering rack. I was under the impression that the M cars had the 13.9:1 steering rack www.press.bmwgroup.com/usa/article/detail/T0021978EN_US/press-kit-my-2001:-bmw-z3-series:-new-engines-a-new-transmission-and-upgraded-standard-equipment-add-excitement-to-classic-sports-cars?language=en_US
