  • Before you bid on another online car auction - make sure you truly understand what those paint meter readings are telling you!
In this video, you'll learn why:
    - There isn’t a “factory” thickness rating for your car - factory readings can vary drastically between panels (and even within the same panel)
    - There’s no “universal” number to adhere by when comparing readings
    - If you’re looking for “anything higher” than a particular number, you’re doing it wrong - especially if you think it applies to any car
    - Why some panels on older cars show a substantially higher reading than the rest of the car
    - Different colors and surface shapes generate different readings
    - Why readings can vary drastically between different model years and manufacturers
    - Why you should never rely on a paint thickness gauge alone
    - A resprayed panel may not read as high as you think
This is hands down the fastest way to get up to speed on the subject of paint thickness readings and paint inspection!

If you own a Chrysler product you might be better off if it's been repainted!

Some great tips, factory paint can get very thin now, and a comparison between panels is crucial. Have you got any charts that indicated how think a manufacturuers paint should be based upon the year of each model. That would be so helpful. Anyway, great vid, thanks again.

Thank you! And unfortunately no such chart exists (too many variations between manufacturers/models).
Have a look at this article. It will show you how paint thickness has evolved through the years (and much more):

@@newoldcars Thanks for that article, strangely enough my last video explained the last question in it... Why is a vehicle from the original owner showing accident damage when they have had no accidents.
