The philosophy that other teams have that the NYI seem to miss in this new NHL is that you don't need "tough guys" to be a good checking team. The good teams: every player finishes a check -not necessarily bone-crushing-but make it hard.

A forward heavy first loaded with grade a guys is a bad draft to trade that first away. only deals he should be allowed to make is getting assets for 29, 21 (too late) and hope that maybe a contender might bite on 44 or 27 if isles retain some future $$$'s. Easier to do tdl with desperate gm's out there then off season.

If this team is under .500 a week before the deadline they need to sell. Trade the pending free agents like Nelson and Palmeri and you need to get 1st rounders for them, bare minimum. The islanders have such a good core like Barzal, Horvat, Dobson and Sorokin. I think we need to do what the rangers did a few years ago with their retool. That’s a perfect model that they should try to follow.

Even if this team made the playoffs, they will be gone within a round, maybe two. They are not a good team. The rebuild needs to start NOW.

Being ready in two years is faster than the average for Isles picks, and I'm hoping for the best because a kid that age stepping up would transform our defense corps. When Pelech returns from his annual 20-game absence, I would keep George in the lineup over Reilly. Also, I pray that Dobson finds his defensive game. Many of us were hoping he'd become the second-best all-around defenseman in our history, but not only has he regressed defensively, it seems to have affected his offensive production as well. Finally, Roy must find a way to get through to these guys and keep them playing their game late, even when they go up by two. The team completely transforms, and as soon as the first bad thing happens, they seem to expect the hammer to fall. I believe Roy should replace Lou and hire a Trotz-like coach who can instill a strong defensive mindset while structuring them to make fewer mistakes.

First the immediate answer to the Nelson goal that should have broken the Devils. Check. Then the crazy incompetence at 5-6 where they almost never score ENgs and don't challenge puck possession. I know they're hurt but they're still good enough to lead 3-1 with 8 minutes left. what is it about the last part of a hockey game that the isles cannot keep playing the same way they have all game. Same old Islanders? Are you guys nuts! They are missing five....FIVE starters and came away with a point against a legit cup contender. The old Islanders never showed that kind of depth. I despise Lou and his insane "I believe" mantra, but give credit where it is due. He made a couple of moves and brought in a coach who knows how to develop young players while giving them confidence. This is a huge difference from Trotz' short rope "Give ME confidence and you'll play" approach.

Devils fans have been warning you guys about Uncle Lou. His last decade with the Devils he turned them into what the Islanders are now.

At this point I hope Dobson is traded so the fairweather fans get what they want. It'll be Toews all over again.
