Love the buffalo check with the little reindeer pillow. So cute 🥰
Good tips. I've found I can only work in 15-30 minute intervals, and then have to rest for that long or longer, but even so, I surprise myself by how much I can get done. I also need to downsize Xmas decorations, and make things more manageable. 🎄
Isn't it amazing? I also always surprise myself when I use the timer. I've just finished decorating and left out a few big, labor intensive projects I've done in the past. It made such a big difference and I had fun just bopping around putting things here and there.
Rozanne, what great ideas and thank you so much for such encouraging hacks to handle the holidays ❤
@@Mythriftedhome214 Thanks Dusti!!
I have Fibromyalgia too and I know the levels of fatigue you talk about. Several years ago I got rid of all the Christmas stuff and for 2 years did absolutely no decorating. I have slowly bought some things, like a small 3 foot tabletop tree, which is pre-lit and has pinecones and holly berries on it. I've added a few gold ornaments and a star. Less than 10 minutes to set up. There are a few other decorations around the house but I take several days to set them out if I need to. I've learned the hard way to not burn myself out. Thank you for enlightening folks about chronic illness and fatigue. ❤
You're so smart to find those small ways to enjoy the holidays without overdoing it! It’s about celebrating the season, not just checking boxes on a to-do list. That's such a great plan for you. :-)
Hi Rozanne, Thank you for the great advice and excellent tips. I really needed to hear them. Especially at this time of year. Xx
I really appreciate your kind words! It means a lot to know my advice is helpful, especially during this time of year. 💖
This is definitely a different holiday season for us. My FIL has late stage Parkinson's with dementia and fell recently. So my husband goes over and gets him out of the bed in the mornings and then helps with his shower and gets him in the bed and comes home. My dad turns 90 next week. He and my mom are slowing down big time. They just can't do what they used to. It's sad. And I microwaved the mac and cheese and bought baked beans from the grocery store deli and didn't feel bad about it!!!!! You do what you have to do to maintain your own sanity.
Thank you for sharing your story with us. It's a reminder that the holidays can be tough for many, and it’s important to take care of ourselves while we care for others. Sending you lots of strength!
@@TowardsASimpleLife I reread my comment....my dad does NOT turn 20 next week. He turns 90. I guess I was very tired when I wrote that!
@ no worries. I knew what you meant. 😀😀
What a great video. I am at the same point in my life, I am doing the same things (or not as the case may be) or I will implement them. Really great advice. Love from the Netherlands, Karin.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Karin! It means a lot to hear that you found the advice valuable. Sending love back to the Netherlands!
Oh this selfcare list is so good, dear Rozanne 🙏🧚♀️ thank you from the bottom of my ❤ Gonna listen again and write things down to safe this in one of my journals with good thoughts 🌺💖 love from a sunny but cold Netherlands, Anjo 👋👋🕯⚘🎶🌈
I'm so glad you found the self-care list helpful, Anjo! Writing things down is such a great way to reflect and stay motivated. Enjoy journaling!
Thank you for sharing this video. The expected activities in most cases probably mean more to us than othetrs, you h
You're so welcome. I'm so glad this video resonated with you!
I love your snowman! It can be overwhelming. I am soooo thankful, one of my my daughters decorated around the house and put up the tree all on her own. She did a wonderful job. I was going to help her but she didn't want me to. She was in the Christmas Spirit she said. The only thing she let me do is put the manger scene on the mantel. It was so nice because my back was hurting me today. She blessed me. That was so nice of your son to do that for you! These are great tips! Thank you for sharing them with us. ❤
That sounds like a wonderful daughter, and you're so lucky to have her!!!
This is such a good video; great reminders for us!
I'm glad you liked it! It means a lot to me to hear that you did. Thanks!
You made so many important points, Rozanne. As our lives change, whether through age, extra responsibilities towards others, illness, physical limitations or we just get smarter 😄, we need to accept that the extras we used to do for the holidays may not be what we want, or even possible any more. It’s much better to be kinder to ourselves so we can celebrate what’s most important to us, as you said. Wish I realized this a few years ago, and hope that everyone who has watched this video takes your wise ideas to heart. Thank you ! ❤ I hope your holidays are wonderful and that you take extra good care of yourself.
Aww, thank you! You get it-holiday stress is so last year. Here’s to celebrating what really matters and treating ourselves right! Maybe we didn't get it before, but we're making progress understanding it now, so that's something. Hope your holidays are chill and filled with good vibes!
@ 🥰🎄
I love your channel. You have a peaceful presence. I have LC as well. I love your videos about pacing. The dots often go through my mind when I’m doing too much.
Thank you so much. I'm glad you're here. Long Covid really alters your life. Sometimes, I think I'm getting past it and other times, I know it's still around. Pacing is the best way for me to deal with it. I sometimes have to remind myself to do it because I get too involved. I need to use the timer more regularly. It help. The DOTS are the best!
@ I’m going to the long Covid clinic at the U of U next week. I’m hoping to get some more education about pacing and how to manage this. Thank you again for your channel. You truly are a blessing.
@ oh, I hope it goes well for you! I’m glad to have you here. ♥️
Another wonderful, thought out video. Thanks so much!! (Why is it that we finally realize that other people's happiness is NOT up to us?! But it takes getting older to realize it? At least for me it did.)
Thanks a lot! Seriously, isn’t it wild how we only figure this stuff out as we get older? Life’s like one big lesson plan, right?
What a wonderful 'self-care' list! I was watching while getting out Christmas decorations and wiil go back later today to watch again and write them down! One standout was creating an 'emergency word' to let each other know something isn't right! When we were first married (4 decades ago) we invented 'Aunt Agnes.' Over the years she has needed our help, had an appointment, sent a text, etc. to get us out of events, or help us leave early! My husband's family thought she was my aunt, my family thought she was his aunt. No one ever asked or questioned! Most of both of our families have now passed, but Aunt Agnes is still alive and kicking, and needy! 😅 Thank you for helping us accept ourselves and our limitations as we are! May you have a blessed and relaxed Christmas!
I love the story of Aunt Agnes! She sounds like a real lifesaver! 😂 I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas too!
It's incredible that this video popped up because my husband just put our tree up and left for the day. He had plans. I have our totes out everywhere and I have absolutely nothing in me that wants to decorate anything. I'm sitting here staring at the tree. I have panic disorder with agoraphobia and PTSD. I tend to get overwhelmed easily. My medication makes me very tired. The energy isn't there. I want to downsize badly. Also I lost my Mom on December 23rd 2016. It's just not the same anymore. I'm 53. I have 3 adult kids. One has serious health issues. I want to be joyful. I really do. But I'm struggling.
Hey, I am the same age and I am going to put up the three on my own, because my husband does not care about it. If I want it I have to do it myself... Wait for his return or put only half of the ornaments, only the favourite ones. At our age it is difficult to change husbands 😉
Have you tried setting a timer? Maybe try 5, 10, or 15 minutes. When the timer rings, you're finished for now. Then challenge yourself with a timer again when you're ready? IDK...just a thought....
@@elerike I got the big tree done and the little one too. But it took all day and I'm exhausted. I'm hurting all over too. I know I did it to myself. I have a hard time walking away from something that isn't complete. But I think I'm changing things next year. Since no one ever wants to help me, I think I'll just do the table top tree. That one is easy and only takes about half hour total for lights and ornaments. I don't blame my husband. He's a hard worker. But he just never wanted to help decorate. He's been outside every day dealing with all the leaves. So I guess we all do what we have to do. I really liked this video. I'm going to rewatch it and take some notes. 🩷
@@debnelson3979 that's a great idea. I should have done that. Thanks. I'm just so hard on myself. I've always beat myself up. So I would have to be really firm with myself if I used a timer.
I understand this. Our 21 year old is going through radiation after a major surgery. I want to be joyful, too. I decided to only decorate our fireplace mantel and dining table. For whatever reason… I just love it! Less is more in my case! I just couldn’t pull everything out.
Hello, another great video thank you.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Hope you're having a great weekend!
Good point, we are not responsible for others having a good or a bad time! How many times have I gone out of my skin to please others ? Too many. Some people are just kill-joys and we cannot change them if they don't want to...
Right? It's like trying to make a cat take a bath-some people just prefer to be grumpy!
Happy Birthday Roxanne...Your Christmas Tree looks lovely with the Burgundy & Gold Ribbons & Decorations, very classy for the Holidays. I use a small table top Green Christmas Tree decorated with Golden Bells & Beads & Tiny Lights..I like the easy way & a simple lifestyle..Merry Christmas to you & Family 😀
It sounds like you've found what works best for you. I'm glad you enjoy your simple style. It sounds lovely!
It all looks beautiful. Lots of wisdom and very lovely replies from you. Love from the Netherlands.
You are so kind. I really appreciate hearing from you!
So glad you're here! How are you doing these days? I hope this video is encouraging for you. We can do this together!
It looks so cosy and festive 😊
Thanks!
Your living room looks lovely! I enjoyed watching you....and well done coming up with a Plan B for your frame! It, too, turned out lovely. Life has become too busy IMHO and I crave simplicity. Happy Thanksgiving!
I agree! I'm all about simplifying things these days! Happy Thanksgiving!
Absolutely Gorgeous Decorations.. Wonderful.. ❤❤
Thanks! I always love decorating. It's good for my mental health to see them up. It's worth the effort, although I do have to go slow and simplify some. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing them!
Such great words of wisdom you gave. Your home is lovely.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked the video! It means a lot to me to hear from you again, Nancy!
Your living room looks marvelous! We have significantly cut back these past years from how extravagant everything used be because of health & stamina issues: Less decor, smaller tree, smaller gatherings, less food, using some convenience foods, fewer gifts etc. You know what? I’m enjoying the season so much more now❣️
That's amazing! It sounds like you have created such a wonderful Christmas for yourself and your family. The joy is truly in the heart, not in the size of the tree or the number of gifts.
Thanks for this video. I’ve been struggling with a hurt back and some other autoimmune stuff the last few weeks, that I’ve been disappointed I haven’t been able to even get my Xmas totes out to even start decorating. I’m hoping to be able to get them out this week after Thanksgiving but I know I also have to be patient with myself. Your tree is so pretty btw.
Yes, be patient. It's find to go slowly, take breaks, and then stop completely when you need to. If you have someone to help carry totes in and out it will help you. I'm glad you like the tree!
Yes I wear an apron. I sew them.
That's great! I have a neat pattern my grandmother came up with. I'm going to pick apart the last one I have and then make some new ones. I already have the supplies. I just need to get to it!
@@TowardsASimpleLife -I know what you mean by "I just need to get to it."
encouraging to get rid of clutter and organize a room at a time.
That is a good plan!
Your tree is stunning! I went to Hobby Lobby this morning to get some things to decorate my new bathroom shelves. I don't have them quite the way I want them. I'll have to keep working on them. I want it done before Thursday because after Black Friday I feel like everything will be picked over.
You’re right, those Black Friday sales can make it hard to find what you want. It's almost getting hard to find things after October. Crazy!
Looks lovely
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it!
It looks so lovely. I don't enjoy decorating, so I will just enjoy yours.
Sounds like a great idea! It is nice to hear from you. Thanks!
Rozanne, this is wonderful!!!❤ so you, this video sharing your experience and helpful tips while decorating ❤❤❤ love it
Thanks, Dusti! I enjoyed making it. It feels like" me". I need to feel more like myself. Ha!
All this looks like a mass of hard work. The getting it all out, and then it will all have to be put away. I'm lucky if I can do the basics of life. It all looks lovely and well done but I'll pass on all things Christmas except the message of love and peace.
It sounds like you have come up with the perfect answer for you. Love and peace at Christmas is really what matters. I'm blessed in that I have a husband and grown sons who are willing to get the bins/decorates out for me and they carry them in and out. I couldn't do it myself. I love decorating so much that it's worth the effort - even if it takes me longer than it used to. It's good for my mental health and I always seem to perk up a bit (after I get some rest!).
I love your nativity! So elegant! Thank you for great content and wisdom you are sharing!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I really appreciate hearing from you!
I love how you decorate every place in the living room. I really like the decorations on top of the Piano with the Nativity Scene & the three Wise Men...Very Spiritual looking Christmas 😀
Thanks! It's one of my favorite places to decorate in the room. 😊 We've had the Nativity scene since 2008 and love it. I painted it a couple of years ago and love how calm it looks. It has the side benefit of not showing all of the breaks/repairs so much. :-)
Your decorations are lovely! Thank you for sharing your process and your thoughts. Have a lovely rest of your day!
It’s so nice to hear from you. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I hope your day is lovely too!
I think I am going to try to not put up anything but a tree this year. Hope I can have the courage to do this cutting back.
Whatever you decide will be right for you. If that's all you have the energy to do, that's the perfect amount.
Ever felt kind of overwhelmed by everything it takes to have a "perfect" Christmas? All of the decorating? Cooking? Presents? Activities? What's it like for you?
I always collected decor and I decorated all the rooms. The past few years I have simplified with decorating and it has been freedom to me. I had to make a mind shift on my expectations. When we let go and focus on Jesus, Christmas flows beautifully and joyfully. Great video with wisdom! Your living room looks beautiful! That was a great idea to make a picture board out of it!
I think I used to feel that way but every year I just put less and less and feel better. I’m just so burnt out and I can just do what I can. I want my family to have the primary focus on Jesus ❤
That's so great! It's so good that you made that decision.
I tried this last year and it didn't work for me. I'm glad it worked for you, though.
Oh, no! I'm so sorry it didn't work for you. I found a new spray at PetSmart you might consider. It's called Cat Pet Block Spray by Nature's Miracle. It smells fine to people but our cat hates it. It's really helped us.
That tree is so pretty❤
Thanks! I'm glad you like it!
Very pretty!, I remember the plaid trees last year too very nice! 🎄
Hi Melissa! I’m so excited to see you. I’ve missed you. Hope you’re doing well. ❤❤
@ thank you! I’m still here! 😊 I hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving and you have a happy birthday! 🎂
You are soooo talented! Your tree looks so beautiful. I just do a basic old fashioned tree and especially this year as finances are very tight. Also Happy Birthday! I turn 65 this next year so I can relate about obsessing about a birthday.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the tree. 65 is a great age. Enjoy it! Old fashioned trees are beautiful. If I didn’t already own this decor, I couldn’t do my tree like this. I couldn’t afford it. I’ve been collecting the decor for decades. 😂
Glad i found this channel
