Garden Office / Room Build in 10 Minutes from Start To Finish 🛠 // Timelapse
In 2021, I decided to build a garden room to help me work from home but also to have a second living space at the bottom of the garden. I have no experience in building (I work in marketing!), so I had to learn everything from scratch which meant I made a few mistakes along the way. But with the help of other UA-cam videos and a few friends, I was able to pull together my ideal garden room that fits all my needs.
This video is a quick timelapse of the whole 5 month process but if you’re interested in seeing more detail on each step then you can head to this playlist.

Garden Office Build | Insulation, Plastering & Flooring | EP5
Переглядів 4,1 тис.2 роки тому
In this video I’ve gone from a watertight room to almost being finished. The walls are insulated with 75mm PIR insulation which was then covered with a green vapor barrier. I opted to do tape and joint plastering which meant that the vast majority of my plasterboard was the finished surface and it was just the joints between the plasterboard that I plastered. Lastly, I’ve used a 12mm vinyl wood...

Garden Office Build | Rubber roof and fascias | EP3

With the walls up, the next step was to put the roof on. We used 2x6 timbers for the joists and nailed them to the frame with galvanised truss clips. I bought my rubber roof from Rubber4Roofs and it came with everything I needed to install it. To finish the roof off I went for an anthracite PVC fascia to help match the steel cladding I installed in the last episode. First episode: ua-cam.com/vi...

In this episode of my garden office build we’re putting up the walls. My garden is very narrow (just over 3m wide) so we had to install the cladding before erecting the walls as the fencing would stop us from doing this once the walls were up. We used 2x4 timber throughout and ended up screwing everything together as I don’t own a nail gun! We’ve clad the office in anthracite box profile steel ...
Garden Office Build | Foundations & Timber Frame | EP1

When covid lockdown kicked in, I started working from home full time and immediately began dreaming of having my own space rather than working from the dining room table. After following lots of other people's UA-cam videos on garden rooms/workshops/offices, I decided to have a crack myself. In this video we’re focussing on the foundations and the timber frame. We were lucky enough to find an e...

    Only thing - I would put ground membrane under the floor frame, so the moisture from ground doesn't affect timber joists.

    Great videos buddy. Curious how you managed to get the cladding on and then lift it and the walls into place? And without a continuous wrapping around of the Tyvek, have you experienced any water ingress at all? Finally, why the need for an office, do you WFH?

    • @richclifford4571
      @richclifford4571 Рік тому

      Thanks Marcus! It was all done on the floor and then it took 4 of us to lift each wall up and screw them down. The hardest part was putting the corner pieces of cladding on which involved access from the back whilst the fence was still down between me and my neighbour. No water ingress to my knowledge and we've had a lot of rain recently! Yes I work from home so I'm using it for 8/9 hours 3/4 times a week. I couldn't recommend it more as a way to separate work from the house. If we ever move house I'll 100% build another one!

    This is great thank you. I’m taking on an existing concrete base and extending by a metre. I’m actually building on the site of an existing concrete shed. I’m having because of neighbours leave three sides of the existing walls, add a timber structure to the inside and insulate from there. In theory using the concrete walls as cladding. Fingers crossed I’ll be starting in April 2023!

    Great job/collection of videos. A couple of questions spring to mind (for now…): What was the process for getting electric into the building? From your experience to date, have you required any heating in the room?

    • @richclifford4571
      @richclifford4571 2 роки тому

      Thanks John! I'll do my best to answer your questions. 1. I was lucky enough to have electricity already laid down to the end of my garden. If you don't have this already then you'll need to dig a trench and run an armoured cable down the garden. I didn't do any videos on electrics because I didn't feel knowledgeable enough to talk about it but essentially I have a circuit for lights and another for plugs. I then had an electrician sign off all the work I did. 2. Yes, in the winter it does get cold! I have a small 1100W electric heater (www.electricradiatorsdirect.co.uk/haverland-designer-rc-wave-rc7wplus-electric-radiator-anthracite-1100w/?mc_cid=38b5b975f6&mc_eid=14f2740f43) that does the job though. The lowest temperature it got to over the winter was probably -1 or -2 Celsius and for that temperature it took around an hour or 2 to get up to 18 degrees which is my target temp. The insulation is good though and maintains the heat well. In December it cost me £20 for the month to heat and I used it every day in the week for work. I hope some of that info is helpful!

The last one was built in a very similar way to yours, was about 3.5x4.5m but I used very cheap cladding - wont make that mistake again! Just wondering where you bought the steel cladding from? From a few quick Googles, the ones I could find looked quite different to yours and I like your idea of doing this on the sides I can't really see!
