Skywatcher Star Adventurer GTi Payload Capacity Tips And Tricks
I'm using a celestron astrofi 5 130mm. The scope option is not appearing on my toolbar at all. How do I control my scope? I've set up the preset, even connected it through sky portal. The help menu (as usual with those things) tells me to click an option that doesn't exist.
@@Stegibbon I used the Meade LX200 classic setting when I used SkySafari to control my Skywatcher EQ6 R Pro. You have to enter the correct baud numbers or something. It’s been so long since I’ve done it, I can’t remember all the steps.
Nice set up! I have the same lens (sony fe, samyang 135mm f1.8) and camera but where can I find an adapter that connects the lens to the asi camera? I can only seem to find adapters to put on a sony body
@@daansteegmans I almost went with a Sony camera when I first started out. Canon and Nikon seem to be more supported on software and hardware in Astrophotography. ZWO might make an adapter for the Sony style lens, but I mostly see Canon and Nikon adapters. You can check ZWO site to see if they make one, or maybe someone else does.
Did you link to the items you recommend anywhere?
@@LeslieBocskor links in the description.
I would get rid of that tripod before I spent another time on equipment.
I have a Tamron AF017S-700mm which I feel would be really fun to take more zoomed in pictures with but im unsure if this tracker would be a good fit. Any thoughts? (im also using a astro-modded cannon rebel t7).
@@signalsgone8503 700mm focal length? That would really be pushing it with a star tracker. That’s getting into the realm of needing guiding with an equatorial mount.
is it possible putting the asiair box around the tripod? it may reduce the total weight load. But the tripod now seems not solid enough to hold the equipment...
@@roxchan4506 it’s possible as long as your cables are long enough and don’t snag.
Late to the game but I got mine today! My son has had one for quite awhile now. As soon as I told him I only bought the scope and a bigger tripod he ordered me a leveler. Looking forward to learning about astrophotography and checking out more of your content

Hello. I also have a Rokinon 135 mm with the two 2600 MC, with a filter I get the focus easily, but aye I wanted to use it without filters and I couldn't get the focus. Could you tell me or rather help me how I can solve this situation. I'm waiting. Thank you and best regards,
@@alejandrohenriquez7316 are you using a filter wheel or filter drawer? I don’t think I’ve used mine without a filter, but I can usually reach focus. You may have the “infinity focus” issue. I think @NebulaPhotos has a video on adjusting the infinity focus on the Rokinon/Samyang 135.
@AstroDanno Thanks!
@AstroDanno filter drawer
@@alejandrohenriquez7316 your lens may not be able to reach focus. Mine is very close to the end. It can be adjusted but I didn’t have to do it.
Really not bang for the buck, very expensive considering it’s mediocre 5kg payload
@@brunoqueiros2971 if someone is on a tight budget, and only has minimal gear, it’s a good starting point. I still use mine with small lenses/scopes.
This video was very helpful as I considered this mount for my refractor. I had also asked a SkyWatcher dealer about it and after the hesitation I knew it wasn’t suitable and it robust.
@@stephenc2738 it’s really like a star tracker that has go to. It’s great for small scopes and lenses, but if you get up to midsized refractors and larger, you’ll be over the payload capacity in no time.
Question: If you have a guide scope, should you leave the tracking turned off in your ASIair plus?
@@JeffGraham-b2z it’s off by default when you start up. When I slew to something it turns on. You can turn it on if you like once you power everything on.
@AstroDanno Thanks for the quick reply!
Thanks for a thorough review. I agree -- this is a little beast and it has lasted me multiple years of charging at least one thing all night, every night.
I do wish they made a bigger one with LiFePO4 battery for the heavier draw items, but for my use with charging my tablets and cell phones and lights and 260W mini-cooker, this is great! My only issue is that the power brick died after 2 years and I am trying to get a replacement from the company (unsuccessful at this time) because the after-market ones are crap.
@@dross24MA I don’t see the Wattfun on Amazon anymore. I wish they had made a bigger one too, because I would’ve definitely bought one.

Is there room to use a ZWO electronic filter wheel instead of a filter drawer? Assuming the dovetail can be slid forward a bit?
@@scotthunter3892 yep! You have to get the short adapter from ZWO that is made for the EFW. I put a mini EFW(1.25”) on there. It’s a little tight to get on with the dovetail, but it worked.

Curious to know............if I select and object, go to Framing and set a zoom ration and rotation angle, will the Seestart stop imaging when that setup is complete, or do I have to periodically monitory the image to see when the retangle is filled? Thanks, and clear skies!
@@BillMeador I just went by what the recommended time was on the framing mode. I think it said 1.2 hours, and it took a little over 2 hours to get to that in stacked images time. I stopped it when I got to the recommended amount of time.

@@Naztronomy thanks, Naz! They’ve really done something awesome with that mosaic mode. I’m excited to try it again, but of course, we have a week full of clouds forecasted. It’s about time I get my big scope back out now that it’s cooled down a bit.

@@lukpascal thanks!
Danny, what is the amount of light polution you have locally? I will try the Pleiades in the upcoming week and I am in Bortle 6
@@patrickvandervalk9622 I’m in about a Bortle 5/6. I’m surrounded by street lights and tall trees. Luckily, my best window is shooting toward the east where Pleiades, Orion, etc. are all rising. I use a dew shield to cut down on the street light pollution and it has helped a bit.
for manual stacking you need to use the final fits file from the seestar as reference in stacking with for example siril
@@NMHC1978 how well does that work? Someone posted a time lapse of the frames they shot in mosaic mode on the Seestar Group. They used pixinsight to make it, and the frames are all over the place.
the new seestar_alp software in EQ mode can now image below the horizon
Mosaic mode they copied from Vaonis with the vespera and stellina.
And they in turn copied it from astronomers that have been using this for decades
@@NMHC1978 I can see why they went this route with an alt-az. A simple 4 panel mosaic would have too much rotation in it.
If mosaic ain't trademarked (tm), it's open game and a win for consumers.
@@antn8387 Vaonis registered it. What i heared is that they are informing them what they can do because the system used in the mosaic aka framing mode is a copy of what vaonis had developed.
Now if they would just remove the horizontal limitation so we can run EQ without having to use some convoluted back door web page to make it work
@@dirttrack1123 that’s what has kept me from trying it. I have a wedge that would work, but most everything I shoot from my front yard is towards the south.
I wonder what the odds are of getting a good or even decent copy of this lens. I'm personally 0/2. Is it like 2 out of 10? 4 out of 10? I kind of want to try again or buy a used one that I know is good but definitely don't want to keep getting crap versions.
@@seriousbassface were you able to return them? Maybe try a lens rental place and then purchase once you get a good copy. I just tried my Rokinon 24mm, and the stars are pretty bad wide open. I’ll have to do some more tests with it, but I’m sure I’m past the return window.
@@AstroDanno That's a great idea! I'll have to look into some rental places that let you purchase after. Yes, luckily I was able to return them, stars were bad until I stopped it down to about F8 or 9 or something lol. It's a shame because in the center I see the hype, it did look great/super sharp there. Corners on even a M4/3 were very very bad though, which blurX surprisingly fixed but I didn't want to settle for terrible. So my search continues, I'll try your advice!
@ I’ve had a couple of friends rent and then buy. I shoot at f/4 with my 135, and that helps. This is my second one, I shot wide open with my first one, and I think it was better. I unfortunately dropped it one night when a screw wasn’t tightened down on my Skyguider pro. 😖
@@AstroDanno ooooooof that's rough, well at least it wasn't a Takahashi! lol Only downside with rental though is then I'm paying the rental price if it's still not a good copy as opposed to buying and returning/exchanging. B&H was nice and let me exchange one and ultimately return the replacement. I just didn't want to keep playing the lottery and sending them back and forth.
@ it is a game of chance. My Rokinon 14mm is good, the 24mm… not so much. I’ll have to shoot with it again to see if there is a sweet spot.

Thinking of picking this up for my Coronado solarmax40.
@@icecorebaby if I could leave an EQ mount outside that was polar aligned the night before, I would go that route for time lapses after using the Solarquest. But, it’s a quick setup, and it usually goes right to the sun(most of the time). I tried a couple of time lapses with it, and it’s just too much field rotation to do anything longer than 30 minutes or so. I set it up last weekend and got some cool shots of the sun.
Which is better? iOptron SkyGuider Pro Camera vs star Adventure 2i Pro pack ?
@@محمدعلاءالدين-د1ص I never used the star adventurer 2i, but it’s probably similar to the Skyguider pro in performance. They are both good for tracking widefield without guiding with a good polar alignment.
Great video. I discovered that you can use the little hole on the solar filter tab to line up the sun. Just make sure that the tab it pointing straight up when you install the filter and when you are sleuthing for the sun watch for the light to appear like a little dot on top of the arm just behind the filter.
@@StarPicturesMiami my Seestar has always found the sun and moon. I know other people have had issues, mine usually goes right to it.
I agree with limiting the tracking on a target to maximize the small amount of resolution this has. I just started using the Siril software this week after seeing a UA-cam video for the S50 script and it makes a world of difference. I recommend it to everyone to at least try it out. It isn’t difficult, just have to remember the steps … it is worth it. Regarding the leveller, since (at this time) I only use the included tripod, I just pull the legs closer to centre to level the S50 (when on relatively level ground, if ground is sloped then I’ll use the tripod turn collars to get close). I level to be 0.5 or less, but I stop as soon as hit 0.5 as a max, as I see no improvement in tracking or image quality when getting to 0.0. There is also a half sleeve dew shield design for 3D printing out there. The dew shield sleeve slides on the end of the telescope arm and not in the lens hole, so as the arm closes it gentle slides off the arm and falls … no resistance.
@@zalllon I saw that dew shield. It’s a smart design. Yep, the in house stacking on the Seestar is pretty good, but processing in Siril produces much better results. All the images at the end of this video came straight out of the Seestar. I think it does a great job for people with no experience in editing Astro photos, but they can be taken to another level with some post processing.
I ordered the Newer leveling base for my Seestar S50, and it's excellent! Highly recommend it
@@myketripp3838 it definitely speeds up the leveling process. One of the best accessories for the Seestar.
So the ASI air can be used directly plugged into the tracker? I was reading there is issues when connecting to Sony cameras. So I would be able to use the ASI air as a stand alone just to point tracker in the right direction?
@@jerjaws you can check to see if your Sony camera is compatible with the air. You can use the SynScan app to control the mount as well, but I like using the air for polar alignment and control of the mount.

@@arjundhannyify I’m having mixed feelings about it lately. After the last ASIair update, the guiding has been doing some odd things. Guiding going off the charts, numbers not consistent. I don’t think it’s the mount backlash or anything like that. I think it’s the ASIair mostly, because other users are reporting issues as well.
