Good expose. And I could say I told you so, but who am I. However it was Virtual Hifi channel who put me on this track. I also have a lot of experience swapping parts to improve the sound. And about 15 years ago I already bought Tripath 2021 amps, early predecessors, that had sincere audiophile qualities. I have several tubeamps, including a fine 300B SET. And since recently a very good Gato class AB. Very expensive, very good. But im using two Aiyima A70 mono's with the same Sparkos. They match very well with my new Laiv Harmony R2R DAC and HP2a pre-amp. Visually and sonically. It sounds fantastic. (I also dislike dome tweeters so I use AMT's as supertweeters for dipole Ti fullrange speakers). I also have a pair of Fosi ZA3's that I bought earlier, and like the Aiyima A70 mono's they only need 1 upgraded opamp per channel. And of course there are other options for discrete opamps that are really not expensive. Opamp swapping is the new tuberolling.
So, I have to wonder how you feel you may be entitled to tell me that you told me so? Do I know you? I don't recognize your UA-cam handle, so feel free to DM me it you like... And as I mentioned in the episode, I owned and operated an electronics repair and mod shop back starting in the late 1980s, over 35 years ago! 😉 There I modded upright video game consoles for Arcade use, turntables, CD Players, and worked on that era's personal computers, like the Commodore 64... Most recently, I upgraded my Ideon Absolute Epsilon DAC and Absolute Stream to the META status...so I'm still sniffing solder, and still enjoying it! 😉🤣😇
@@theaudioanalystThat's a good point. That was a bit clumsy of me. I keep telling people the same thing for months if not years, and they just won't believe me. The thing is, I can't keep track of everyone (so maybe I didn't tell you). But I do follow your channel and I really appreciate it! And it is a credit to you that you simply tell the truth. So many people are just discarding it because it's cheap. I just acquired both the Laiv Harmony dac and HP2a preamp and I'm using Aiyima A70 mono amps with the same chips and Sparkos opamps. And it sounds really magnificent. Normally that would be a crazy combination. $3k dac and preamp with $300 amps? But it does. I have 20 years experience in Chinese audio, over 40 years in modifying audio. Buying, listening and modifying units. I even have a Chinese turntable with 3 arms and several Chinese MC cartridges (Shibata stylus, sapphire cantilever, silver coils you name it). I built my own speakers that outperformed my trusted Genesis VI that are relegated to lowly bass duty. I modify my tube- phono- or integrated amps and DACs. So I have plenty of burns too. I have several tubeamps, even a 300B SET and a Gato Amp150 that is €4500 but I am playing with a pair of Aiyima A70 mono's with (oem) Sparkos. That's a bit more than 10x the price. And that Gato is more than worth its price. I'm not rich but I know what sounds good. You can't just buy a system and expect it to sound good.
Could not agree more with your excellent review, Greg! I also just picked up a pair of Sparkos opamps for position 2 in my monos and was blown away by the difference it made. I also upgraded the others to the modest but long time well regarded and affordable LM4562 opamps. I also picked up a pair of cheap figure 8 to standard IEC adapters so I could use high quality after market power cords on the power supplies - wow, here again, very nice improvement. These have quite frankly unseated a Pass DIY 40 w/ch class A amplifier called the Burning Amp 3 (circuit Nelson Pass gifted to the community) that’s kin to his First Watt line. While it sounds beautiful, the Fosi’s are surprisingly better, it’s crazy!
You make a very substantial point about replacing stock AC cords... I am shocked at how many music-lovers STILL don't know about, or more importantly, actively deny, the difference power cords (_and supplies!_)can make. This underlying truth is touched on by two of my audio axioms - #1, Cables are components, and #6, Piss Poor Power Prevents Proper Performance. I detail these parameter's of audio truth in Episode 9, "the audio analyst's audio axioms" - ua-cam.com/video/G_mWN76rqAI/v-deo.html Thanks for watching, and for sharing your experiences. 😊
AUDIO MAN, I need your help 🙏🏼 I have a bit of a terrifying issue and REALLY need help. I have HOURS, maybe even days of recordings of hushed conversations in white noise filled rooms... My partner is doing some really scary stuff behind my back, and I don't know what to do. He's cheated on me, threatened my safety if I leave AND if I stay, I've found him going through my stuff and lying about it, he steals from me, has all these druggies around and let them in and out of my apartment, he seems to know EVERYONE, and the cops in our town WILL NOT TOUCH HIM. I think I got wrapped up with a really bad guy here. He has quiet conversations in random rooms away from me and regularly jumps and acts caught like he isn't doing anything. I've heard him talk to others in a completely different voice/accent and gaslight me in front of them when I call him out as if I'm making up that he just changed his voice. PLEASE, I need help going through these recordings. I've been researching audio analysis to try and do it myself, and I've brought out some near-full conversations from what once sounded like pure white noise, but it's still never clear enough to understand fully. My insta is @selispeks, my TikTok is @seli.ftw, my Facebook/Messenger is Will Sherman. I'll make my profile picture say my name so you know it's the right one. PLEASE HELP 🙏🏼

I know who that picture is to your left behind you but it kind of looks like Putin. I really like your large Fred Flintstone chair. Enjoy your videos, always happy when I see them.
Phil Collins looks like Richard Burton as Big Brother in 1984.
LOL. No, it is NOT the Russian President... It is actually Phil Collins, on a picture disc release of his "Face Values" album. But, thanks for writing, and I'm happy to learn you are still following the channel... Thanks, and have a wonderful holiday season! 😉
Terrific review!
Thank you!
I put a dual single sparkos in an ole Stereo 2 channel receiver STRSDE197. It makes a.grand difference.
Thank you for covering this. I have the same Sparkos upgrade in my Fosi BT20A Pro. And yes it’s more of the good things I hear. I hope you dig further on this topic. Few have your vast experience in this space. Appreciate your approach and honesty. These little amps can embarrass quite of few others. Some can’t except that fact. I one the other hand would have no problem saying so. I have vintage Adcom and Nad I should compare. All the best.
THANK YOU, for watching, writing, and your kind words. It is SUCH an amazing time to be a music-loving audiophile... The choices today are SO MUCH MORE SUBSTANTIAL than they have ever been... I hope you are having as much fun with this hobby/sport/disease as I am! 😉🤣😇
@@theaudioanalyst yes I am the most fun ever
I could well imagine someone modding a few of these to assemble a multi channel system with some decent finesse and clout for not so much cash.
Don't you know it, Marcus...
Agreed on all counts. My personal experience with the Sparkos upgrade was with the Fosi ZD3 Dac/Pre. The result mimics your description with the Fosi power amp.
Thanks for your input here. This seems to be a common thread from EVERYONE who has tried using these discreet devices... Kudos to Andy (Andrew!) Sparks and his team at SparkoS Labs, LLC, in the Denver area...
What a great review, brother. I recall the jaw-dropping experience I had when you introduced me to Dave M and his superb M4 a number of years back. I can’t wait to hear the new M5. Well done.
Thanks, Maurice! As I said in the episode, I am also VERY enamored of the Studio Electric M4s , so for those interested, here is a link to the Maurice Jeffries review of that loudspeaker that posted at Positive Feedback in December of 2018 - positive-feedback.com/audio-discourse/studio-electric-m4-monitor-loudspeakers/
I added this DAC to my combination of vintage and modern gear and it has significantly improved the sound of my Amazon stream and Phillips cd which now it serves as a transport. Never sounded better.

Hey, buddy... No, not at this time. While I very much LOVE what they do, I'm trying to stay with my "keeping it real" philosophy here, by staying with overachieving vintage products, or - at least - gear that is more affordable to more people. I hope that makes sense... 😏
I felt that I knew exactly where you were going with that Greg, the point where you shifted them to your second space (a system more suited) .... and hence getting a more cohesive presentation.... It would have been a VERY uncommon loudspeaker that can scale up to a system of some 100x their price.
No doubt. I think you know that I don't believe in "Giant Killers," at least not in the sense of its broadest application. There simply isn't a $2,000, or even $10,000 stereo or set of mono amplifiers out there that I've heard that will best something like the Audionet Heisenberg's, the CH Precision L10s, the Soulution 701s, the TLA SSP-350s, etc... BUT, there are overachievers, products whose overall performance has them punching well above their weight class, at nearly every price point and in every product category... Those are the kinds of products I will highlight here on the channel when I identify them... The M5 are in that category of product.
Just ordered mine. Hope it will deliver the goods with my soulnote E2 phono stage.
great video! Thanx for your efforts and energy.
A friend and I were probably the last persons in this room on Sunday before Greg show up with his recording wear We visited that room numerous times it was that good. For the cost, room limitations, and sheer musicality... Best sound of CAF 2024! Great job Mr.Weaver!
Thank you for watching and taking the time to write... Your comment clearly justifies WHY I had to feature this room on the channel! ☺
Wow- perfect ❤
Great company great sound!!
Greg, Your thumbnail title on this video says GTT Audio & Video
DOH! Thank you! Corrected now... 🤣
The principal of Badass.... Now that's a title! Beautiful looking amplification. 👍🏻
LOL, that is pretty funny. Burce has a warped sense of humor, and I LOVE it. And yes, the look is very classic and pleasing to the eye, no? 😉
Vou correndo comprar esse joia 💎 Obrigado pela excelente dica😊❤
Fantastic time indeed... 60 conflicts around the world... 10,000,000 kids die of hunger every year... The internet keep everybody information overloaded, therefore ignorants... The climate is going crasy... World economy is close to bankrupcy... If love is blind, passion is at least very short sighted. Now, back to the subject. Are any numbers available? What measurement were made? Which test set was used? After all, at your age, your earing bandwidth is in the range of 100-15,000 Hz and not flat. (C-message)
Hey buddy Martini a little stronger than usual?.. by the post sip expression 😜
LOL... Not really. But, it was pretty early in the day when I shot that, so...I wasn't really used to having a martini at 9:30 in the morning! I think that is what caused the double-take on my first sip! 😉🤣😇
New Treble Clef Audio TCA-M Active Loudspeakers are better to my ears ! Finally a Major-Breakthrough for Loudspeakers !
Such a complete and perfectly realized video! We always look forward to your featured show videos. Many thanks for the coverage!
As I mentioned to Bill, the pleasure was ALL MINE, my friend. Stay safe!
Hi Greg. I'm so sorry that I missed seeing you this year at CAF. Normally, I'll run into you several times throughout the weekend event. Another thorough and excellent segment. As for the GTT room, it was outstanding. The dynamics and musicality were stunning.
Hey, Troy. I've NO idea how we missed... I was ALL OVER that place! But the room WAS a marvel, no! I hope to catch you next time, my friend! Stay safe!
Thanks for sharing. Incredible gear.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to write!
I heard the Grandmaster playing on a Marten Mingus Orchestra recently, and it's probably the best I've ever heard. Super quick transients, no harshness, great bass dynamics.
Hello Greg. My name is George. If you have some time can we talk please. Thank you. Dick Diamond used to work for YG
Hello, George. I've NO idea why you might think you'd need to reiterate that Dick worked for Yoav at YG. I CLEARLY mention that in the brief version of his work history, along with our friendship, in the freaking video!
Greg, Once again just a terrific video and thank you for featuring us on your channel.
I suspect that you understand that the pleasure is entirely mine, Bill. Thanks for bringing show-goers SUCH an engaging music-making system! When do I get to come hear the new Kronos Perpetual and Discovery Phonostage in your system/s? 😉😁😇
So I love the classic sound of the first golden age of stereo, and have resurrected my beloved college system including late 70s Kenwood 4070 receiver and large Advents with an Akai tape deck. Sadly my TT for those days is no more but I have added a Fluance 85 and have been in vinyl and metal tape bliss ever since. But I go the urge to add streaming for when I felt lazy or when I wanted to hear something not from my vinyl or tape collection. Enter the WiiM mini ($70) and SU-1 ($69) purchased over the past year. Here’s the amazing thing: the WiiM running thru the SU-1 via optical sounds great, giving a full, spacious and “modern” sound to streamed music. But, when I go back to vinyl (not thru the SU-1) I still get that warm blanket familiar classic sound that I love. An absolute cake and eat it too system. Love it, and hope this is helpful for anyone considering adding streaming to a vintage system.
Greg can you help me understand what a DAC is? I know it is a digital audio converter. Thanks
Um, I'm not sure what I can add here. You answered your own question... 😉 But, here goes... A digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is an electronic component that changes digital signals into analog signals, which can then be sent to your electronics (preamplifier, amplifier) and played using a set of headphones or speakers. DACs are a key part of ALL digital audio devices, such as smartphones, PCs, and TVs. Just for completeness, the opposite of a DAC is an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), which changes analog signals into digital signals.
Is it even possible that Doug could come across any more naturally ... His welcoming demeanor must surely lead him to great success when accompanying prospective customers through their audition process.... The sound was somewhat funky during his intro to the system though. The finish on tidal loudspeakers simply makes me drool. Let's have another chat with Doug again soon please Greg. 👍🏻
Thanks, Marcus. As to that audio issue, it plagued me off and on all weekend. I'm assuming it was some kind of issue with the mic, but, as I haven't been able to replicate it, I'm really stressing. 🤔 I hate not knowing what the root cause of the issue was... SIGH! Regardless, thanks for watching and writing! 😉
@theaudioanalyst no stressing buddy, Great content is great content regardless of hitches, glad you put the clip out in truth.
Great review! I can see how the SM-1 would be a great improvement for the Wiim mini, but I am wondering if the SU-1 would offer any significant improvement for my Wiim Pro Plus as they, as you pointed out, use the same DAC chip. If not, what might you suggest for a budget friendly external DAC for the Pro Plus if any? I am considering, Topping D70 Pro OCTO Or SMSL DO300 Side note: In listening to your audio track selections I don’t know how to interpret them as I am listening through my own system that colors the sound according to my equipment and settings. Again, thanks for such an insightful review of the SU-1!
When the improvements are so easy to hear using earphones over UA-cam I can only imagine how profound it is in your system. Awesome demo, thanks! Now if only they could figure out how to correct the hole so you only have to do it once!
Tidal akiras. $20k in drivers cost, accuton. Argh these crossovers, damn expensive, must be 50 grand
I wonder what is next? The TPA3255 was such a massive hit. Texas Instruments must be working on a bigger more powerful chip.
An even more bonkers value is a pair of A07 max units with two 48v power supplies that will cost $100 less and offer similar performance.
Excellent Video and superb deliver of the information, you have a natural way with words and descriptions. About 3/4 through I kept thinking, that cadence, so familiar, why do I feel like I am comfortably seated among friends and brothers listening to a quality lecture?
You are too kind, thank you! If you've seen my first episode, "Who Is theaudioanalyst© (ua-cam.com/video/loT2ZjdUlx8/v-deo.html), I think you may gain some understanding as to what has given me the foundation for what I present here...and - maybe - just why you find the content so engaging! I hope you dive into more episodes. You can use the "Videos" or "Playlist" tabs at the top of the links to hone in on material you may have interest in... Thanks again - for watching AND for taking the time to write! 😉
Great and informative video Greg! Those VR.thirty Foundations look very impressive indeed!
Thank's, Randy. There will be a pair coming here - possibly before Christmas - so you'll get to hear them for yourself during one of our LP sessions! 😊
Those Borresens behind you...damn!
LOL, thanks for watching. And yes, they are pretty amazing. Did you see my review of them? My take here on the channel here - ua-cam.com/video/C7CgfW75n2A/v-deo.htmlsi=1DCxgf6i--iq2es7 and my written companion at Part-TIme Audiophile here - pt.audio/2024/01/14/borresen-m3-loudspeakers-review/
The claim that the LRC parameters of cables will not have any effect on frequency response is a rewriting of electrical engineering principles that have been accepted and proven time after time since the telegraphers equations were devised by Oliver Heaviside in 1876. The claim that this is incorrect is indeed a great claim, and great claims require great evidence. Does this cable maker present any such evidence?
So, I've no idea why you would waste your time to even ask me such a question... Write to Silversmith Audio with such requests. And thanks for watching...
@theaudioanalyst You've answered my question : no evidence was presented. Thus we can dismiss their claims.
@@TerryClarkAccordioncrazy LOL, no - I didn't answer your question. The only thing we can dismiss here is your sincerity to understand Commander Smith's approach and understanding. If you want answers, ones that I would CLEARLY not be able to provide, ask him! Or, just take the lazy way out and make your assumptions. These are the opinions formed over years of cable development by Silversmith Audio CEO/Designer Jeffrey Smith, a graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering. He also earned a Master of Science Degree, with Distinction, from Missouri State University and was a National Defense University Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Fellow. His initial tours in the Navy included assignments in which he studied sound transmission in, and worked with the acoustic environments of, some of the world's oceans. He has experience and understanding that I'll wager you cannot begin to match. While Jeff modestly suggests that he is one of only "a few" cable designers to base his designs upon the physics model of electricity as electromagnetic wave energy instead of the movement, or "flow," of electrons, I can tell you that he is the only one I've spoken with in my nearly five decades exploring audio cables and their design to even mention, let alone champion, this philosophy. So either open a dialog with him and see what he has to say...or stick to your dogmatic views. I'd urge you to open a conversation with him, as he is one of the most engaging and knowledgeable cats on the entire physic model of electromagnetic way energy transmission I've yet spoken to.
@@theaudioanalyst "He has experience and understanding that I'll wager you cannot begin to match." - You know nothing about me, my qualifications or experience, but that is not the point here. If I were to list my credentials that would merely be the same kind of "appeal to authority" that you have made. That is not how things work in science and engineering. You call my view dogmatic but that is a misunderstanding on your part. Dogma means positing an opinion as fact. I am doing the opposite - I'm explaining the known facts of how signals travel down cables, established by theory and experimental practice in physics, materials science and electrical engineering with 150 years of experience backing up the fact that the LCR parameters of cables absolutely DO control how signals propagate along them. These telegrapher's equations are in textbooks, taught in universities, and utilized in practice by engineers who design cables for demanding applications such as long distance and high frequency communication. By contrast, audio cables are fairly undemanding. If someone wants to propose an alternative theory of how wires work then the burden of proof is upon them to show that their new idea is better than the existing understanding. The ideas presented here amount to nothing more than pseudoscience. The designer may well be sincere but misguided. Or this may be yet another "spin" story designed to sell extremely expensive products that are simply pieces of wire.
Nice Rig! 0:01
Nice Rig!
Thank you for sharing this. Impressive.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and write! 😉
I listened to the VR30’s for a good hour last Saturday, absolutely amazing and I’m considering a pair.
I'm waiting to get my review pair - along with the WestminsterLab's electronics before -I make any final assessment. But I have to say, their potential seems to be off the charts!
I heard these badboys play classical chamber music, like they say so delicate and transparent like few other speakers can. When most listeners at the show had left the host/dealer started freestyling his own playlist. He made the Moyas really stretch their legs. They casually idled vicious techno tracks at about 100db in the 65 by 50 foot room. The control, the way they can pressurize almost any room and the authority of these speakers is unheardoff. Never ever have i heard nightclub volumes with this soundquality.
