I don't get White Savior vibes, but can totally understand if someone reads into that, totally. I've explored a lot of the lore and it seems this story is of its time. I think if the cast wasn't as diverse as it is then you'd have a case for it but it seems to just be a really good story. Then again, I understand why people read into it as a WS story. Mainly because it certainly has all the ingredients but from what I saw the director was able to blend things in a way that uses culture, religion, and even language to its full effect! Lovely video!

As a French person I didn't like this ceremony, but for other reasons. For me a good ceremony should be done in a stadium because the audience is part of the atmosphere and especially because the scenographer has a much better command of the conditions of his show. Whereas here, the audience complained about not seeing anything or not much, logical, moreover the implementation was unnecessarily complicated and visibility reduced. Afterwards like everyone else I think that the director Thomas Jolly did not understand the stakes of an Olympic Games opening ceremony nor understood which audience this kind of event is aimed at. In my opinion he was not the right person to recruit for this show, there are many other directors in France who could have brought a radically different vision, unfortunately it is done and we can't wait until 2028 to see or see again a real ceremony perhaps more classic but once again in my opinion more beautiful.

Thank you so much for sharing your point of view with so much positivity and passion for the Olympic's ceremony! ♥ I loved the blue/white/red smoke cloud that opens the ceremony, the very successful passage of the Conciergerie with the projected blood effect, the choreography on the scaffolding of Notre-Dame, the animated short films to highlight French animation and the Assassin's creed reference as Ubisoft is a french company, the knight of the games who is followed by all the international flags, the performance of Céline Dion and the hot air balloon that flies away with the Olympic flame in reference to Henri Giffard. The Marseillaise sung from the roof of the Grand Palais was clearly timed to be right at the moment when the sunset hits the glass roof, so frustrating to see this incredible scene under a gray sky. I am convinced that this image would have made the front page everywhere if the sun had been there! 💙🤍♥ 💔 I think there were a lot of good ideas, but the execution wasn't always good enough (the torrential rain didn't help): - The golden stairs for Lady Gaga could have had a much better finish, at least they could have hidden the big black spotlights at the front with an additional piece of scenery and the scene would have had more impact at night with colored light effects like at the Moulin Rouge. - Many cameras didn't have the right angle to film the key moments, we feel that there was panic, because of the rain but not only... (examples: we barely see the orchestra that plays with Lady Gaga, the cameramen who film Aya Nakamura and Rim'K have very approximate movements) - The oldest Olympic winner waiting under the rain in a wheelchair, poor guy, it would have been class if a second person had held an umbrella for him. - Shows intersecting with the arrival of the teams in boats was a good idea on paper, but in reality we lost the thread, we watched a show then it cut for 5 minutes to film the boats, so the show had finished in the meantime off camera and so on. That's what gave this very messy impression I think. It was a gamble to film in Paris and not at the stadium, maybe there were too many constraints in the end? We had some very beautiful moments of emotion but quite a few missed opportunities too in my opinion. Let's see the closing ceremony now! Bisous de France 😊

As Martin Scorsese would say: it was a theme park ride. 😂 A very fun ride! I loved it and all the comic book references. Most of the charm of the film comes from the characters of Deadpool and Wolverine and their banter/commentsry. The story is serviceable enough, but nothing to write home about. I liked that the cameos were fun without overshadowing the two leads. As much as I would have loved to see all the X-Men make an appearance…they all would have been short changed. I think my biggest gripe with the story is they do a lot of telling about their backstories, rather than showing…so it already doesn’t make the emotional payoff hit as hard. I did love the end though when they came together. That was nice touch.

For the torch-bearer, the look was clearly from Assassin's creed but it was also a reference to Parkour because it was invented in the 1980s in France. The idea was to find new way to move in the city, in your environment. The movie "Banlieue 13" was a big classic in France and make parkour popular. We have quite a decent scene in Parkour with various and qualitative content and so it was also to highlight that ;)

I loved the movie, even with some of the flaws because they tried to cram so much into, yet MCU gets a whole new universe and maybe more R rated movies which is the spark MCU needs. Though Deadpool also get to pivot from the disappointing Deadpool 2 and glad like the Sony Spider Man universe a great ending.

The USA were second to last because they are the next ones to hold the Olympics, and France the last one because they are the ones holding the games. The metro didn’t have problems, breaking down while Zidane was carrying the torch was part of the ceremony, so the kids would take the torch and go through the catacombs, a Parisian land mark, before being carried on boat by the torch bearer.

This is disappointing, Charlie Clapham from Hollyoaks has been campaigning to get cast as Dr Doom as he’s Romani himself and was the popular fancast, he would’ve been a great choice.

My only issue was the rhythmless can-can dancers. That was cringe. I hate the way people use the word "cringe," but that's the only word I could use. Other than that it was brilliantly done, especially in light of the fact that the sky was dropping buckets of water.

I loved loved the opening ceremony, even though I'm not certain non-French people understood all the references. To me, it looked like a real celebration of French contribution to the Olympic Games, French history, pop culture, athletes and music! I got most of the hints and winks and they made me really happy! Ik, the far-right, cons. and cie didnt like the Fashion Runway tableau but that's mostly bec. they arent tuned it with this aspect of fashion and art history. Nothing outlandish was presented there, those "provocations" were decades old. Also, fundie xtians/trad cath shedding tears that the Olympic Game ceremony paid hommage to Anciant Greek deities are utterly unserious. The Olympic Games as an institution are older than Christ, older than Christian homophobia and older than the also Christian Transatlantic Trade and antiBlack racist pseudo-science.

Beijing is in another universe... No other country will have the capabilities to produce that level of live production so I am glad France decided to do their own thing and not compete... I liked the whole show...

The Russos introduced Victor Von Doom as the following... 1) as the most important character of SECRET WARS (either Shooter's 1984 version or the 2015 Jonathan Hickman's version, that is just undeniable basic reading comprehension). Please note: NOT the most important VILLAIN of SECRET WARS (yes, he is that too). But the most important, most ESSENTIAL character. Essential as in you CAN'T make this story without Doom. 2) as PERHAPS THE MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTER in all of Marvel. Note: not just the most important or greatest supervillain of Marvel (he is that too, btw). 3) as one the most complex and entertaining characters in ALL of fiction. One of Doom's many skills is his ability (learned from the Ovoid alien race) to switch minds. Perhaps they will explain that the real Doctor Doom found a Stark-variant (maybe a missing Illuminati member from Earth 838?) and switched minds... but if you have seen DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE, then you know that they need not rely on that device.

Gojira!! :) my favorite metal band since '07. i'm so happy for them! the entire sequence, the metal + the opera & those visuals, so jaw-dropping & morbid! i loved it so much & couldn't stop watching it. i must say, i like that the opening ceremony artistically showed off Paris & wasn't all stuck inside one stadium. i approve of this approach.

I think U.S. came in second to last because they’re hosting the next Summer Olympics. I thought it was the worst Opening Ceremony I’ve ever seen. There were some nice moments (Celine Dion being a stand out) but, overall, it was very lackluster, disjointed, and… weird. I don’t think they did a good job of showing what France has contributed to the world and culture. Like why was Lady Gaga there?? They have AMAZING French artists that they could have highlighted. It also felt like something that would appeal to Europeans a lot more than it would to the rest of the world. I just don’t know if an Olympic Opening Ceremony that serves as a world stage is the best time to have a drag recreation of The Last Supper. I’m not someone who gets upset at religious imagery used in art but… again, it’s just not the right time and place for it. I will give certain aspects a pass since there was a downpour. I haven’t found many positive takes on the ceremony. Most people I’m hearing from seem to have hated it, at least in the U.S.. I agree that London and Beijing were the best ceremonies.

I had many other actors to play Dr.Doom yet I don't hate this pick and with the Russos making these movies is what is really exciting. Multiverse is also what it seems like MCU not focusing as much and even though Kang isn't gonna be the main villain Doom and Galactic might and with X-Men and Fantastic Four movies looking good and the talent around I think MCU has set themselves up nicely after the Jonthan Majors problems, Disney+ complaints, Anti Disney hysertia and The Marvels strike flop which many are looking back at that movie seeing how unfair it crap it got and was a streaming success. MCU just needed to pivot yet lets be honest RDJ has done nothing but that Oppenheimer movie that's good and even Deadpool 2 was disappointing, and the character needed MCU to right the ship like they did with Spiderman and are gonna do with X-Men and FF which both franchises ended messy. Fans forget how bad many of those movies were. Fans say they want new and different, yet they don't because when you do they get angry. Look at The Marvels which had some problems yet was light and fun and had interesting things, yet fans said it was too fun yet look at Deadpool vs Wolverine which looked fun. I don't think its desperation yet for sure safe and don't fix whats broken. Try to add experiments and new yet have RDJ in front too make it seem normal. Somebody said its okay to try a new movie yet sometimes you have to put your business hat on to get fans to see it. Even though I didn't rant I was happy to see RDJ even if I was disappointed, its great to see Brie Larson vs RDJ movie. Great work.

Marvel's inability to let go of making the Xmen about Wolverine and mcu about rdj is pathetic. Is a good thing I don't care about the mcu anymore and some actors in it like scarjo, chris evans and deadpool guy make me feel sick and cringe with disgust.

I am SHOCKED! If they dive fully into the drama and tragic elements this could mean, then RDJ as Doom could be fascinating and brilliant. However, if they just coast on the fact its RDJ and don’t do something compelling or interesting then it will be Marvel’s biggest mistake. Gonna be an interesting couple of years.

You're 100% on it! I'm actually pretty disappointed by this bc it stinks so much of desperation. It feels like they made a half-assed attempt at adapting more diverse stories and when those weren't immediately billion dollar movies they ran back to "safety". Im having a great time: the Olympic games opening ceremony was beautiful, it made me proud to be French for 4h! But now I'm back being my grumpy old self! Edit: I also woke up to the RDJr news and my social media feed was pretty negative about it! I'm sad, they didnt recast Kang altogether as I know, fans were excited about him and I'm always rooting for Black actors employement!
