Honda C90E Head Valve Installation. While disassembling the head of my honda C90E, I tried getting out the valve guides but only managed to damge them and the head. Luckily i had purchased other items and found a C90E Head in my spares. I purchased the new valve guides and some other parts and decided to build the head from scratch.

Great job Tom, I restored a 59 Cub about 15 yrs ago. Even though they may look the same at a distance up close you really appreciate all the little changes over the years just like the VW beatle. 😮

Why don’t you ACTUALLY SHOW the process of what you’re doing, rather than jump cutting?

@MyCommandos By pigs you mean the prefects?.
I have a 500 Kawasaki 2 stroke and I bought a crankshaft for $385.00 and they had one in stock you believe that ! The only thing you have to do to screw on the oil pump you have to drill out and re-taped left hand threads.

Are you from Ireland
Yes
hi Tom,your bike is looking well . i have a 1961 honda c100 its running but i would like to get the engine over hauled . just wandering if the guy who did up your engine would be interested . i live in tipperary

Good. Thanks
Hi Tom I Think You Done A Great Job, Well Done
Thank you.
Glad to be of help
You're a lifesaver Tom, thanks a million.
What happened to the company. The wiki doesn't say. Another video says they were bought in 69 by Volkswagen and renamed Audi NSU.
Nice work , you've spent a lot of time (and money!) On that restoration.
Hello Tom. I’ve just bought a Combinette 1959. I’m the second owner of the moped. But I’m having some problems with the gears. First and neutral works fine but second doesn’t want to go in right. Do you have any suggestions? Kind regards Oskar
Have you opened the engine to see if there is a problem internally?. I am not a mechanic so would not know of another cause other than the gear cable settings that would cause this problem. Consult a mechanic.
@@tomcahill8506 No I have not. But in your video you had a similar problem. You found first gear and neutral but didn’t find second gear. And I’m just wondering how you solved the problem?
@oskarcarlqvist1321 I haven't tried to start the engine, due to my back problems.
Phantastisch.
Nice that in Kingdom an Zündapp is restaurated, here in german Andi restore actual an english one from 1930 can you help him with part locations for them bike named Raleigh 500 SV ? I will think andi can help you with Zündapp ua-cam.com/video/G8ITnODSvY8/v-deo.html
Having watched your video on the off chance that I may need to strip my engine one day you have taught me one vital thing, I certainly don’t want to do it after seeing the traps waiting for you in that little engine. I have just rewatched the mower strip down video again to pick up some welcome pointers and once again thanks for a great video.

hi tom thanks for the video very informative im working on one of those bikes at the moment could you tell where you get your parts please, im in ireland .
You talk about a Arrow on the magnet to put motor at point , what was the procedure ? Thanks
Hello is the neutral positon of the seletor between the two speeds? Thanks
No idea
Yes
Hello i have also One, i have trouble cant put the neutral, it engaged the two speeds but not the neutral, disasemble and assembled the motor just like tour video... Any tip? The neutral on the Middle of the two speeds ?
Unfortunately I do not have any idea. I'm not a mechanic just an enthusiast. Check with a qualified mechanic.
Yes the neutral is in the middle. The shift handle with detents for neutral and 1st gear is required. 2nd gear is in the end position of the lever.
Great to watch your video which is giving me courage to do mine which looks in many ways exactly like possible basket case in my shed now. You may know already but the small cavity under the seat is for tyre pump, I have no doubt I will be using your video heavily in the next few months. Thanks
Thanks Gary, Go for it, life is too short.

Haven't seen it. All parts Can be replaced. That oil pump must have seized.
Tom. Great video. I'm rebuilding a 1979 c50zz. How do the engines differ? Thanks
Not much difference. C70 has a different kick start and bigger piston . Different rotor as well. The barrell and head are bigger on bore. That's all I know about them.
@tomcahill8506 thanks Tom. I noticed when removing the head, very slight vertical scratches on either side of the piston and inside barrel. What do we think may have caused this ?
@@johnbates465 It's hard to know. Maybe piston rings
@@tomcahill8506 thought it might be. Oil pump. Failure.
Tom. I noticed the dowel by which you access the oil pump spindle is broken. Have you come across this. ?. Can it be replaced. Thanks

Good video. I just subscribed your channel. Daniel.
Hallo, schöne Quickly! Die ist aber von 1955 und nicht von 1953! Definitiv!
Hi Tom, hope you can help me with my c50zz restoration. Can you tell me the honda code for the carburettor. Beginning 16100. Thanks
In the book I have, The carb numbers are: 16100-041-720 to frame K096263 . 16100-041-721 frame K096264-L024173. 16100-041-722 from frame L024174
Tom. My frame/vin. Is C506070315. Thanks
Fascinating video. I owned a 1962 example (GZD424) for years as a student. My father was a mechanic and he showed me how to replace the kickstart shaft (a weakness in the C100 cured in the C50) and how to rebuild it after a big end/conrod replacement. I always had a spare engine ready to go in as once replaced the big end did not last!! Your video brought me right back to those days. I remember replacing a fork and placing those 2 sets of 21 ball bearings. No UA-cam to help in those days My father got a flywheel puller made in his job (Dublin Gas Co) and we bought the castleated spanner to remove the clutch assembly I sold mine still in perfect condition in 1971 and the new owner made bits of it😒
Yes these items can bring back great memories. Shame they made mush of the bike. Well I'm not a mechanic and I could find no video that didn't have a load of waffle attached to it, that one could watch without being bored of the person on the video. So many people want to be famous.
Have you found a clutch gear shift lever in the meantime?
Hi Tom. When you re assemble the screw that holds the right and middle housing should the nut be on the inside or the outside or does it not matter? I rebuild my own engine Last week and Think i placed the nut on the inside so the screw goes in from the outside and not in from the inside and out to the nut at the flywheel. Hope for answer and some advice if you Think i matter or not, either Way the bolt and nut is tight and wont Come off, and either Way I could not tight it anymore without taken the clutch cover off :) Hope it makes sense Best regards Lars
And another question, what would happen if the gear dog is installed the wrong Way so that the side with the deep Cut is upwards? Would the bike be able to shift into gear or would it jump out of gear and make bad sounds?
Hi LARS, I have found them both ways, but normally the nut is inside. If the nut falls off it might manage to slip down and cause no damage, where the bolt might. But it should not open really.
Hello Tom, another question Thanks for the response. I rebuild my own engine and was very aware that the gear dog was placed with the right side upwards the side that is not Cut out hope you know what i mean. Afterwards i became paranoid i did it wrong and was wondering what the symptoms would be if i have placed the gear dog wrongly with the Cut out side upwards? The bike runs great in both gears and very well in the first gear which should be the gear affected if the gear dog was turned the wrong Way around. It drives fine up Hills and under load. Hope the question make sense. I performed the test where i presses the lever on the right side of the motor with a screwdriver and both gears went in well, so what would the symptoms be if the gear dog was installed the wrong side upwards (the deep and Cut out side upwards or in other words against the ignition side) Best regards Lars. Great to learn something new
Hope it make sende
