Billy’s dad was a total Jerkoff !!
I could never kick a perfect beautiful mans like Ryan Phillippe out of my house! What a dopey breeder facist dad!
oh man he is so hot
Is the dad an idiot ALL the time? Whatta jerk.
This is a post about Sloan and character growth. So often in life, we make decisions based upon what we believe at the time. We later learned that our beliefs were wrong and/or too rigid. We wish we could go back in time to redo those things over. I think it's the idea that the Greeks had when they created the concept of what would become heavan the Elysian Fields. A chance to look at your final mistakes and redo them and get those moments of pure joy of getting it right. Sloan was dying and he saw himself in Billy's dad and he saw Billy as William his late son (how it took me 20 years to get that this is what the writers wanted with Billy and William hello makes me question my own intelligence). I am so glad that before Sloan died, he got his almost doover. He also helped guide Billy's dad to come around, although him finally coming around didn't happen on camera, which was sad. But this was a great and powerful storyline. OLTL will forever have my gratitude.
Guess what? There were homos in the Neanderthal Days..there was Gonk and Jonk they were married at the local 7-6 store over at Dino Lane,,.near Lost World Highway. Didn’t you all see the way that Barney look at Fred all the time..Hell even Wilma and Betty were eating Delicious Beaver Pie from time to time! 😜
The distorted VHS sound quality is sending me! It really takes me back. 😅
Tell him, Billy!🏳️🌈
Irony being that the 2 guys who.were willing to play the demonized homophobes were closeted gay men.
Ryan is now 50 years old. I was only three when this aired
mom is in shambles, but my girl stood up son is pissed off dad is a hot ass mess
Billy’s father looks like Gladys Kravitz from Bewitched.
W mom
I never realized how easy I've got it as a 17-year-old today. Obviously still being criticised and bullied, of course, but people really did pave the way for us back then, and I genuinely am so sorry for anyone that had to go through this back then. I'm so sorry, but I thank y'all very much for making not only mine, but others and future generations have an easier time with this. I really do appreciate and have sympathy for y'all. ❤️🩹🙏
"I've always been a stranger." Wow that was a helluva truth bomb, great writing and acting!! Now, I remembered his cameo on Will and Grace which was a nod to this role. God bless that young man.
I have one friend who when he was 18 years old told his parents he was gay. His father beat the living crap out of him while his mother stood there and watched. He said this happened like 25 years ago, his parents told him to get out and never come back. He lives out in L.A. now with his husband and is happy. His husbands family treats him like another son and when he got married he took his husbands last name.
Why is Ellen's coming out episode considered so groundbreaking when this had already happened? This storyline is very powerful. Why didn't it get more notoriety?
I;m sorry that way she said that😭🤣🤣
Billy could cum live with me!! I’m sure I could entertain that young lad!!
The conservative male patriarch figure is always the victim. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
1:32 dad reads as such a narcissist.
Or a closet case himself.
Yeah, but the Dad is gay....
Daytime drama at its FINEST
Daytime drama at its finest
"I've always been a stranger." That's an incredible line
.........I was raised Southern Baptist and am half Mexican....we were always taught that being gay is something that is NOT accepted & not "normal". I made sure to always have a girlfriend...and then, at 18, I joined the military - under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" ------- I never wanted it known. At age 25, I opted to leave the service and when I did my older brother outed me to my mother and the entire family disowned me. My mother eventually came around (5 years later) since she was dying from cancer and I let the past be the past and was there for her in the time of her death. I've always struggled with my sexuality, but I live as an openly gay man - I work in a courthouse and am no longer ashamed. Most of my struggle is spiritually, but there's always going to be SOMEONE who has a problem with it and is vocal about that....but, it's easier when you come from a place of being your true self instead of being what everyone else wants you to be or expects you to be.
The bit where he remembers what his dad said while having his photo taken was written so well. Powerful.
Great hypothesis! Old faithful 😜
I'm proud of the mom in this scenario given the times.
I can’t believe I just found out about this storyline and the impact it had. and to be fair, is still having as I’m binge watching as many clips as I can find now! so thank you to all you lovely people who have shared old videos for folks like me to discover all these years later!
Haha. I’m doing the same thing. I didn’t know anything about this and I grew up in the 90s.
Same
@@Wasabi9111 So glad those of us who didn't watch when it aired are able to discover it all these years later! thanks to the lovely fans sharing these clips to the world 😊
Had a friend from years ago (passed on) He was disowned & kicked out. He eventually became very wealthy & had a great partner. Unfortunately, he didn't do up a trust to protect his assets or his partner. When he was dying, the former family showed up & stole everything. The partner had half the house & was forced to sell it & the family stole everything they could get. Back then there were no "rights" as there are today. Still down South this sort of garbage can happen. Always protect yourself legally.
There are still parents today who are like the father.
In the nineties, my husband and I were sitting in front of the Christmas Tree for pic. We were discrete until my dad said, "At least pretend like you you like each other." My parents were very accepting. Way more than my husband's in rural Mississippi.
the face of pure evil.
Terrible dad and terrible husband. Billy is just an Angel 😇 🏳️🌈
Out of the closet , then out of the house - that’s the way it was !!!
How things have changed
My family knew about it in the 80s age 12 yrs old but until 90s my family found out we talk about it for days to months but i told my family i still the same person as before i never change and i don't do drugs and copy others i tryed to be part of of lg it didn't work then lgb still didnt work out i had lesbians help me a bit than late 90s i join LGBTQ community i released theres so many different types of gays out there i meet someone there in a relationship for 6 months but it didn't work out nowadays with LGBTQ plus its getting bigger and most LGBTQ r getting so lost because of social media marketing and attention i seen a lot of gays become trans nowadays and dont look happy
Oh i remember this scene...is there more of Billy Andre Sloan in this episode also showing how how far his father has come...kinda getting a 2nd chance with Billy as a father that he could not be and support his son. Always lived this storyline andnwish they had been able to really do more with Billy and that it did not always have to be about "issue" driven with the character.
Plus, "Billy" and "William" never made the connection until now. 😂😢😢
He almost but not quite forgot a line.
My mother found out when she listened in to a phone call. She screamed at me and that was the last time she spoke to me for almost a year. The family was completely confused on what I had done or said to my mom to make her stop speaking to me. I told my brother and he begged me to at least be bi. When I finally told my dad, it was like watching someone cut his strings. He fell to the ground crying. (My father didn't even cry at his father's funeral.) I moved out about a week after telling him. The silence was deafening. I had already lost about half of my high school friends and was so close to killing myself, but I ended up at the local gay and lesbian center and met people that were like me. I moved away and found more friends that accepted me. But I never quite recovered from my families "acceptance", and rarely came home, other than for the annual Christmas party where my mother found some sweet girl she wanted to introduce me to.
I hope you found your chosen family.
I’m so sorry that you were let down so badly by them
Is this a long time ago? It goes to show that these TV shows are still relevant today
🙏🏾
Sounds heartbreaking! Hope you are doing better now 💙
Dad may be having second thoughts about HIS heterosexuality. Reminds me of why I came out. My parents didn't react this way when I came out, but many poor people face the same bigotry as Ryan's character. It's disgusting.
😮 oh wow..
One thing I wish about this storyline is someone should have punched the dad to told him to fuck off
Wow I love this!
🙂
How do you do that how do you reject your own child for being who they are
If you want to know, you can unfortunately ask my father. After my mother's passing, he told my brother that my mother made us both "too soft" and followed with "No wonder your brother is the 'the way he is'. She couldn't raise a real man". We haven't spoken since
I forgot how great OLTL was! Thanks for posting!
I saw the majority of this story 31 years ago. I do not recall these scenes however the are very awesome. This was a very well done story & against the early 90s soap style. This was the era of “ SEX SELLS” especially during the summer. To present this thought provoking story was an amazing victory for Gottileb & Malone. Applause Applause for the performers as well!
I know that's right, mom❤
