Greetings and welcome to my channel. I'm Colin and my objective is to share my modelling skills with anyone who is interested. I've built model railways, metal locomotives, plastic model kits and, for the last five years, I've been building Tamiya radio controlled trucks.
Using Beier Function Sequence to make a roofbar flash like the real thing.
Sound Teacher software is very powerful and in a lot of cases, only limited by your imagination. Here's an example of using function sequences to make a 7 LED roofbar flash like a real roof beacon. Hope you find this interesting!

Second part video showing the conversion of a Tamiya Mercedes Actros 6x4 prime mover fitted with a MFC-03 to a Beier SFR-1. Plus some other work along the way. Going into detail showing the programming has meant the videos are lengthy and I've done my best to condense content as much as possible. I hope you find some of it helps you!

Hi Colin just wondering is it worth the money?
Interesting video, how would I find out if my Spektrum DX8e is compatable with S-BUS
Great set up thank you where did you get the stands??? they look great!!!
Great video, really informative and helpful, I’ll definitely be subscribing, i can’t work out what to do with the coupling switch wire from the mfc though, where does it plug in? Or does it?
Hi Colin, this series is pure gold! Just starting this build and very appreciative to you for creating this series. One question if I may… the wiring diagram that you refer to, did you create that yourself using something like Tinkercad, or is it available online somewhere? Thanks, Colin.
Happy belated birthday. I’m looking forward to watching this whole series
Very informative, thank you from a newby ❤
i was kinda scared to get me a Beier instead of my usual bought MFC. But after your tutorial series of the Beier , I'm ready to get me one . Thnx a lot for your great explanations of setting it up and how to finetune it !
Hello those stands that are holding your chassis. Did you make those or are they for sale somewhere?
Thank you for your advice! I am relatively new to this hobby and found your video really helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
It would run on xp the software is tiny
I can't get My USM-RC3 to play sounds reliably the often skips and there doesn't seem to be any actual control over engine speed
Very interesting, would like to run this system, but unfortunately I'm still running windows 8 😢
excellent video where I get the module to adapt, it gives a lot of space
Thanks. Beier stuff available from Germany.
You missed out setting the actuator up, did you have to set it up or did it work out out of the box. I've almost finished mine. Tipper works on the manual side switch but not on spare tx channel.
No, I didn't need to set up the actuator. Simply plugged the module cable into a spare rx port, assigned a three way switch and it worked.
@@tamiyatruckbuilding7426 Thanks for reply, I got mine working now on the switch.
Fantastic video, this has and will help me massively
Many thanks Andrew. Are you aware of my Facebook Beier group? To join you must answer the Q's and agree to the rules. facebook.com/groups/756556645824406
A great video very well explained. I do have one question though. The indicator lights: Why have you installed them in three positions each side. Would it not be better to have all the left and all the right set to one position each in the connector block? Hope this Video helps me turn my paper weight into a usable truck! lol
Hello there. Thanks for the kind words. Your question is a valid one. Where I need all of the 16 outputs I brigade all of the same to one block position. I may spread them out when I'm not under any constraints and use whatever is available wherever the wire pops up. Hope this helps.
I love your job 💚 You are brilliant 💚
Many thanks!
Since you went sBus why use the sticks to control sounds lights etc? Why not use the switches on top of the radio?!?!
Personal choice!
Can you tell me about the stand you use. Looks great.
Can get from Tim Wincer at Ipswich RC Trucl club.
Good job man 💚
Thank you!
What a great video. Looks like a nice system
It is!
Hi bud how do you add air sounds while running
On the Additional Sounds tab.
Hi Colin - what a amazing job you have made of the Volvo FH16 Wrecker Truck, I have just purchased this model and mfc03 also associated accessories for the boom etc I'm really looking forward to the build. I have built King haulers Knight hauler and cascade kamiya kits along with various trailers - they are just good quality kits thanks for the videos keep up the good work.
Hello Nigel. Thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated!
Very good tips and tricks to learn from slowly slowly wins the race
Every little helps!
I really like these videos you do Colin, especially given that I also use the Radiolink AT10 transmitter.
Thank you for your kind words!
I was wondering if any expletives wouldve been heard when the cab dropped off the cocktail sticks 😊
Usually yes. The power of editing!!
Don't forget, spray paint for models is different from spray paint for cars. The actual pigment is about 100 times finer, allowing for much better resolution of fine detail in your model. This, along with the added cost of less paint per container results in a more expensive paint. My recommendation, would you risk your very expensive model's finish for the sake of a few extra pounds? Not me!
Thank you for your comments Donna
Excellent. I can use this for the lights Install in the grill of my truck build. Seems very simple. Thank you.
You're welcome!
@@tamiyatruckbuilding7426 Hi Colin, having got my unit all set up and having a play with it, I have found that in the outputs tab, then output sequences, allows perhaps more functionality for setting light sequences. Worth a try perhaps.
Nicely presented.
Thank you!
Brilliant stuff, Colin! Always a good day here in New Zealand when I see Colin has uploaded a new video. Keep up the good work - we really appreciate it.
Thank you Greg. That's really kind.
Superb video Dad, really nailing it now.
Thanks Adz. I appreciate that.
Looking forward to trying this!
Glad I have helped!
Very useful! Thank you!!!!
You're welcome!
Glad to see videos from you again, Colin! This was very helpful! I'm about to watch part 2.
Thanks. Been very busy!
Very nice job Colin, may I ask the full list of item needed as I would like to do the same to my blue Actros? Thanks in advance
Hello Colin, discard my list request, I found all in your previous video fancy a beier, which I found helpful and clear. Thanks a lot for your effort
Watching this series as my new Scania 8x4 sits in the box. Taking information in to see what light/sound equipment I will go for. Looking like this is favourable
Hi. Beier is in a class of its own.
Where did you get the black inserts to limit the sticks movement as I'll be using a AT 10 ii when I can finally decide on which truck to get I'm leaning towards the Scania 770s
They came with the Tamiya truck builds I've done. Not seen them for sale anywhere.
First of all, I have to say nice videos and secondly, an even nicer assembly stand, where did you get it, thanks in advance
Thank you Axel. The stands are from Ipswich and District RC Club. Please contact Tim Wincer to purchase. Regards Colin.
@@tamiyatruckbuilding7426 yes, hello, thanks for the quick reply, unfortunately I can't get very far from Germany because I don't have Facebook and I don't get an answer via the e-mail address from the club, well thanks anyway for the effort and continue to build beautiful models was an interesting construction report !
perfect!!!
Many thanks!
what resistor are you using? How many ohms
Depends on supply voltage. If using NiMh 7.2v, then 270 Ohm. (Supply Voltage - LED voltage)/LED Current. Vs = 8.2v(max charged) - LED 3v = 5.2v/0.020A (20mA) = 260. Nearest upper value is 270.
thanks for the information
Awesome awesome
Thank you!
But something of Tip Top ! 💯%
Thank you!
Hi Colin, I am looking for the 2 blue standards you using here in this film. Can you tell me the brand name or where I can find them on the internet. Thxs Jac
Hello Jac. They are available from Tim Wincer - Ipswich & District RC Club (on FB).
Awesome
Thank you!
Hi bud setting my sfr1 up manged most stuff but for some reason when i add change direction for reverse its not changing on motor forwards is fine. Was working in reverse on my old simple set up. When I engage it on control reverse light come on along with hazards but will not turn the wheels backwards any help appreciated p.s novice take it easy on me
Hello Ryan. Sounds to me like you've not completed the motor setup properly. The process is page 16 in the manual. It only takes about 30 secs and tells the sfr what your fwd and back stick movements are. You may have run it initially; even so, I'd do it again and make sure you do the reverse stick part. Let me know how you get on.
How can I get one please let me know where I can get one
Hi. Just search for Tamiya tow truck in Google :)
Hi looking to get the sfr1 can you add or does it come with the vibration unit like mfu 03 thanks
Hello Ryan. The SFR1 doesn't have a vibration unit. To be honest, I know many rc users personally and they don't use the vibration unit.
@TamiyaTruckBuilding thanks for replying been looking at different options but thinkin sfr1 is the way to go with how many more extras you can add and change.
Colin... I'm watching this series again. Watching you do brilliant, neat wiring is very satisfying to me!! Hope you're well.
Thank you! I'm well thanks.
These videos are a great learning tool, can I ask where you get the sounds, walking, door opening/ closing ect
Hello George. Royalty free sounds off the internet, joined together using Audacity, saved as a .wav file. Upload to SFR1 and call your file from the 'Startup Function' (STeacher>General>Model Configuration)
@TamiyaTruckBuilding many thanks, I will have a look. Any new projects in the pipeline?
Hallo Colin, watched over for the third time. learned much more from you then the german tutorial from Beier. Very curious: when you switch the beier on you here walking, slamming doors, ( inreior lights will go on/ off) then the engine starts. I really wonder how you manege this in the programming . Audicity?. i have a .wav sound but i cannot play because engine kicks right in. Can you help me out here. please?
Hello Willem. Thanks for watching. The walk to the door, door open and close etc is a .wav file made up (joined together) of royalty free sounds off the internet. You are correct in that I used Audacity to join buts together. You can then point the Sound Teacher software to the file or, as I have done, a macro (sequence). Within my macro I have a few actions which all run consecutively (Sequence 1) at startup. I can send you a couple of screen grabs if you contact me on thorn503257@gmail.com.
