Second time I've seen you do that Gear Tooth filing. Great idea! I do similar, but different.... An idea borrowed from my 48 years in Model Railways, I coat all the Gears with Toothpaste (cheaper is better). Assemble and spin each Axle, both directions, with a Drill or similar for about a minute each... Disassemble and clean with Dish Soap. Dry thoroughly, Grease, and reassemble. I find that beds all the Teeth to each other. I honestly can't say that either way is better! They serve the same purpose. I'm sure that either way is just as smooth, because of the quite imprecise mesh!! 😜 What I really do differently, is use 300-500,000wt CST Diff Oil. It doesn't restrict Steering, and makes sure that ALL Drive Wheels have near equal traction!! I can't seem to sell that idea on anyone, but no matter... Works like a dream for me.
@@tamiyatruckbuilding7426 Colin, I thought of it soon after I saw how many people LOCK their Diffs!!! It works OK for a Rock Crawler..... But in these Trucks, it creates so much understeer, that sometimes it WON'T steer!! I don't know about the short Rigs, but I tried locking on my Grand Hauler.... On soft Dirt, it kept going straight, full lock!! The Auto Technician in me HAD to come up with a better solution. The ULTRA THICK Silicone Diff Oil is also an idea used by Rock Crawlers...
You've illustrated perfectly why I invested in a set of MIP (comparable to Hudy) Nut Drivers, 2mm to 8mm. At our advanced age, particularly with my Arthritis, those have been my best friend!! 😉
You prompted me to go and rummage in the garage because I recall I had a tin with nut drivers in it. I found it and I'm kicking myself using the Tamiya 'things' when I have much better tools to hand! Will use in future. Thanks again for your kind comments.
My pleasure Colin! Us Old Farts have to stick together. 😜 I also use a Cordless Screwdriver.... NOT a high Torque model! Never to tighten. Just run them into Plastic bits about 90% and stop. Give the threads a moment to cool, then HAND tighten. I'd never recommend this to a Novice, but this is obviously not your first Rodeo!! 😉
Great tip on the diff castings.
We aim to please :)

Hi Carmine. Thanks for this. I think the remedy in both cases works. The cause - as you say - is the imprecise castings. Interesting use of diff oil!
