Boring piano improvisation
Приєднався 27 лис 2022
Isn´t it boring how much interesting music there is in the World?
I suggest we stick to boring music. Try it at home. Play something. It's fun.

Triadic dance (quick piano improvisation)
This is a planned improvisation. This means that I pre-selected the beautiful triple chords of my left hand. There was no way I could have discovered them in real time. The wool socks were knitted by my dear aunt Raija!
Please suggest the mood or topic of my next piano improvisation!

Walk-in Sonata (piano improvisation)

It's New Year! To celebrate it, I don't play old music but new music. Everything seems new now: my dear mom knitted new socks for me, which I feel soft to walk on. This improvisation turned into a walk-in sonata today. I am happy with its atmosphere and disappointed with its intellectual quality. I'm fifty yo. It means that can improve, there is another whole year to make it happen. Thanks for ...
Footwork Sonata (piano improvisation in wool socks)

Here’s a piano improvisation where only my feet get the spotlight, wearing cosy wool socks knitted by Lini. In the beginning, she only had yarn balls of different colors. She had to decide to start knitting. That's how it must have been. Lini used to work at the Finnish National Opera. We might be related. We both enjoy drinking sparkling wine together. We can do it without company, even though...

Great socks again 😊
@heegerzsofi thank you! These are one of my favorite socks. Old and soft. I´ve become old and soft as well.
I'd like to hear your suggestions for the mood or topic of my next piano improvisation!
This was a short and fast one! :D I already made suggestions (thanks for the Satie-inspired impro!) so I will let others suggest something this time.
Nice new socks! And nice impro. I like the middle part most 😄
@@ruhjee13717 so do I! It's ridiculous 😄
I would'nt say that, but funny! 🙃

nothing more sublime than a quick run up the keys after a slow calm walk
@@christophermabry Yes! Nothing more sublime. A slow run is not sublime, but I'll do it anyway. In the cold rain.
Thank you @christophermabry very much for your beautiful words that you wrote a month ago under my Baroque for B's video! For some reason, that comment of yours had remained hidden to me and I only noticed it now. Yes! I'd love to hear you play! Could you put the link under this, for instance? I don't know UA-cam's algorithm, it's possible that links in comments won't be visible. If it gets hidden for me again, would you try something else like writing me its title? Thanks!
@@boringpianoimprovisation i try to avoid long scale passages because i would end up using them and who needs that again and again and again? something i did a while ago kept my hands pretty much in the middle of the keyboard.
@@christophermabry that's one useful thought for many!
Peaceful Christmas. Silent nights. By the way: The "granny grand session" video (from July 2024) is accessible via bookmark, but it is invisible/unreachable both on channel's main page and by general search. If that is a deliberate arrangement, it's alright.
Hello Sunkenindeaf! Granny Grand Session from last summer is there, as a hidden special. I wanted to shorten it for Christmas. I'm not ashamed of the original one, it's just too boring. Thanks for the comment! Joyful, peaceful December days to you too!
Varpunen jouluaamuna - Sparrow on Christmas morning A short excerpt from my christmassy keyboard improvisation, played on a Yamaha P515- The whole video: ua-cam.com/video/dvFx6m44PlE/v-deo.html
Thank you. Very nice. Sadly, those shorts are too short. I see no sense. But then it repeats many times and I enjoyed.
Soft synth sound reminded me to works of long gone croatian experimental author. Connection! Search on yt for "Saniboj Žugić - Alone II - Mirjana" . Analog synth he built! And others play it today. This is ringtone on my mob.
@@zeljkohrvoj3032 Thanks for the comment! Glad you liked it. I only use the short videos as trailers to draw attention to the longer ones. This is just the beginning of a long improvisation, "Some Christmas Carols", which you can open by clicking the "play" triangle on this short video.
@@boringpianoimprovisation play triangel? Not there. Listen, I'm so old, I invented internet, but this short videos sucks. Too short, and not simply I can jump to full time videos. Too many shortcuts. too many unnecessary links this and that. Fusk.
@@zeljkohrvoj3032 Yes, thats a problem with the short videos... They work differently on different devices. 😑
Nice athmosphere!
Thanks @ruhjee13717! The sound quality is brilliant!
love it!
@donleino thanks a lot! That was about five years ago. I had just received this nice Yamaha and was learning its functions. The sound is good because this is played directly to the pen drive. The first two songs are Finnish origin and the last one from 6:30, Stille Nacht, is from Germany. It seems like I was lost! I prefer acoustic upright.
@@boringpianoimprovisation it can be hard for me to engage my creative mind with digital instruments sometimes ( though the tonal pallet is vast ... neigh infinite! ). sounds good tho! i say digital is more in the head, acoustic more in the heart, though they transcend both these descriptions as well . ive been messing around with analogue synthesizers , they seem to sit somewhere in the middle for me ... video coming soon ! also enjoyed your dual live improve session with your friend , i need to put aside some time an listen to the whole thing
@@boringpianoimprovisation also ive played the yamaha cp88 with the same action as the p515 , i liked it alot! for a lighter action right now im using a roland FRP-Nuvola ( a variation on a roland FP30x) . the roland PHA4 action seems to strike a nice balance , i find digital piano companies weigh their actions to heavy , roland PHA50 is like running in sand. at least yamahas p515 has a fast rebound! its just the initial touch that is a little stiff. perhaps im spoiled with my clavichords ... lightest action imaginable .... oh and i cut my teeth on that spinet that had the lightest action imaginable
@@donleino thanks for the useful information about digital pianos! That was very beautifully put into words: digital is in the head, acoustic reaches the heart. The different file formats drive me crazy. For example, in this video clip, the slow latin beat playing in the background changed to a completely different sound after converting the file.
@boringpianoimprovisation thats cool that it has rhythms , news to me !
I may have messed with the technology in some interesting way. Nevermind. This evening was not as boring as I'd have hoped. We played with 2 grand pianos for half an hour with my friend Ioanna. @johannajohanna7068
It was amazing!! Thank you Teemu and thank you Sävelmetsä!
It seems that the external microphone wasn't working, so the phone's microphone picked up the recording. Never mind, I enjoyed it anyway! ☺ It's a shame it didn't work live, but at least we got a recording of your great improv! Thanks, and make more like this!

@@Swordshreader thank you very much! There is some emotion involved in this, so plenty of it so that I didn't like it at first. But it's nice, I think. Your comment made my day!
Brilliant as always!
@@Swordshreader thanks a lot! I felt insecure while playing the compositions. It was Independence Day. Compositions again in a year.
Eläköön Suomi. Long live _boredom._ On a personal note, the songs of Kuula and Merikanto are _bullets_ with my name on them. Thank you for the introduction. There are quite a few recordings around and each brings a new light. Eventually, foreign squirrel will get lost in the woods again. Namesake coincidence: Kuula composed "tuijotin tulehen kauan" on a poem by Eino Leino.
@sunkenindeaf thank you once again for your educational comment! The reference to a foreign squirrel made me laugh :D Eino Leino's poems taste good in my mouth, even though he is not my favourite poet. Finland currently has an unfortunate government that wants to cut funding for culture. This is despite the fact that in Finland, culture returns three times the money invested in it. Well, but there are different eras. There have also been some in Istanbul.
Great improv with style! ❤🇫🇮 Happy Independence Day! 🇫🇮🎶
Thank you very much Miina! 🎉🍾 For you too!
Wau!!! Bassot, uuhh!!Mulla on tuommoinen nalle myös😅
Kiitokset Anne! Hellas oli suomalainen piano, tämä yksilö ainakin on. Bassot on tosi kivoja kerrostalopedaalin läpi. Olen jo jonkin aikaa fanittanut amerikkalaista supertaiteellista pianistia Don Leinoa, joka määrittelee uudelleen mitä kaikkea ihminen voi soittaa, ja miten. Nallet on tosi tärkeitä. Matti-Nalle katseli touhujani aikansa, sitten kyllästyi mutta jatkoi katselemista.
Don Leinon kanava kannattaa tilata! Huikea tyyppi, jolla on myös suomalaisia sukujuuria, kuten arvata saattaa.

Awesome! Very cinematic this one . And certainly feels appropriate for ze cold weather here 🛌
@donleino thank you so much! I found this when I was cleaning my phone from useless files from last summer and was just about to delete this. Then I thought, this is exceptionally grim, and I shared it. But spring is coming again. Let's enjoy now that it's dark! Thanks for your synthesizer videos! They´ll help me through the next long summer.
@boringpianoimprovisation yes i suppose we will take what the cold has to offer for now. Glad you decided to post it, its great! I heard some asian pentatonic stuff going on at points
@@donleino wow, I didn't know such a scale existed! I should study more scales. Thank you for listening to my hot summer therapy session with the Hellas upright!
Feeling miserable one day, I improvised on the piano and accidentally ended up with the Finlandia theme by Sibelius (also known as "Be Still My Soul.") You can hear it in my full improvisation on my channel (link in description).
Thank you. I'll accept the invitation to a hijack attempt. Rephrasing the protagonist's words in "Toivon Tuolla Puolen": _"Against my better judgement, I'm in love with this place [the Earth]; but if you know how to get out of here, tell me."_ Behind the grumpy mask, Aki Kaurismäki is too soft-hearted to let his characters suffer throughout, with the exception of the bitter evolution and downfall of Iris in "Tulitikkutehtaan Tyttö" --that's his purest film, to me. Not irrelevant from the political atmosphere of the world today, here is a simple personality test. Assuming that the squirrel in the text represents Finland, which musical setting of "oravan laulu" do you prefer: Cheerful Chydenius or gloomy Similä?
Dear Sunkenindeaf, your knowledge of Finland amazes me. Very impressive! Of the squirrel songs, I choose Similä's gloomy version. Joyful music may not exist at all, there is only melancholy and self-ironic music. The Match Factory Girl is a wonderful depiction of heartlessness. I can't watch that film without crying, even though I know this nation isn't quite so hopeless. I also decide to cry at two scenes of Shadows in Paradise: at the beginning, where Esko Nikkari dies, and also at the end, when the car ferry leaves the harbour. Why - I don't know. Thank you for your heart-warming comment!
I dont think that it is dark. It is emotional, but not in a hopeless way. I like it.
@@ruhjee13717 thank you so much! Gloomy but not hopeless. Depressive but definitely not in a dark way. I was just about to delete it but wanted to share it now because of Black Friday.

Unfortunately, I couldn't play Finlandia that way, my improvisation took a darker turn. So, I recommend watching a cat video instead. Next time I'll play better or worse, but not exactly like this.

Not so annoying! 😄
Not so annoying, suits me, I ripped it to listen in a car... Edit: nice piece, my prog soul enjoyes it :). Reminds me to Bojan Gorišek/Aleš Kacjan piano/flute 1993 CD I got on a HiFi show in Ljubljana.

@@zeljkohrvoj3032 thank you very much! I was disappointed with the conditions when playing and not very happy with this improvisation. But after reading your comment, I feel great that I shared the elephant music!

@donleino trucks are nice. I'm a bit hooked on a console game called Snowrunner. In it, you drive trucks in the forest, and not really much else. There's no rush, for instance no one threatens to kill me, my boss doesn't yell at me and there's not even traffic. The birds sing to me as I drive the truck through the forest.

Utterly unpretentious and beautiful.
@@christophermabry thank you very much! I felt the humbleness of the bees.
@@boringpianoimprovisation you take a different approach to improvisation than most people and I appreciate that very much. I specifically try to do things at least somewhat out of the ordinary. I generally like them but a never sure how they come off to the listener. Could you take a listen to something I posed recently and give me your honest opinion of it. If you say yes then i will post a link here.
Incidentally, right after I've watched the upload of an elephant orphanage in South Africa. It's a semi-wild herd consisting of a group taken from Zimbabwe (because of land dispute over there) and several orphans that were rescued and introduced over time. Peaceful as they leave early in the morning, move to feeding areas, visit waterholes for a bath and return to homestead at sunset. Rumbling in low frequency when they relax or greet their human carers. Trudging huge silhouettes is a sight to behold. Still, every now and then, a few impala rush by, a young elephant takes fright at the commotion and screams, upon which the entire herd hurries around the youngster, trumpeting at the top of their lungs.
Hello Sunkenindeaf! That was such a beautiful description of South African elephants! For a few years, I have been following the lives of rescued female elephants in Thailand (www.elephantnaturepark.org/about-us/ but mostly via UA-cam).
