I find photos of Loricariids in the wild so valuable particularly how they look in the wild. I think many would be shocked by how adult gold nuggets, B. xanthellus look, those photos are so useful to show people how they really look in the wild.
Regarding water hardness I don't think it's actually ever measured in the field. I've not seen it in any scientific paper from memory. I do have a paper mentioning the conductivity for the Rio Xingu and if needed I can check others. I did email a researcher regarding a paper they made as part of my research involves ecology, most scientists are not focusing on that ecology it seems from the reply I got so they didn't collect that data. Unlike Rift Valley which is much better studied.
@@FreshwaterIchthyology That's true it is indeed hard to come by water parameters in non-scientific literature on a wild habitat. Only Ivan Mikolji's book on the fishes of Orinoco has all these data, so I guess it made me spoiled:)
Comprehensive and fair review. Funny enough, I was at a fish swap just this morning and there was a bookseller there and he had 5 unopened copies of this book! ($85) He also had a first edition of Walstad's book (only 20 US dollars). I didn't buy either but came very close!
Thank you! Those prices are indeed a bargain. Sadly, fishkeeping literature is fairly pricey here in UK. I've paid something like USD 100 for the Walstad's book years ago, and now it is event harder to come by!
Unfortunately, many books, and UA-cam videos, lac k information regarding water parameters. A pet hate of mine. The price would certainly put me off buying it. Thanks for the review 👍
Sure, but his first ‘Bleher’s Discus’ is still a classic and Bleher himself is an icon of our hobby. I met him once at a show in Germany and he was very nice and interested in the photos I showed him of my fish. Especially Tetragonopterus argentues I kept at the time and how he observed them in the wild. We talked for half an hour. Nice memory. 🙂
It is unfortunate! The UK distributor claims to ship worldwide, but since it wasn't cheap to receive it within the country, I can't guess how much he is going to charge for shipping to Australia.
Great informative content..I was wondering where i could order both Xingu Below Water and Amazon Below Water since they're not available to order on Amazon in the US
This is exactly what every hobbyist needs ! Tons of research into it.

Yikes. Maybe next time I'll buy a book or two for you and ship to you myself! @@tropicalfishhub
@@LushSaltyAquariums Oh, thanks for the offer! I'm just fearing that shipping costs would be exorbitant

Thank you! The book is indeed overpriced for what it is
@@tropicalfishhub Horst Linke’s books are the same - great pics but sadly lacking in organisation and information on water parameters etc…
@@PaulsFishroom Yes, indeed. I have Linke's book on Altum angels, which is also mostly photos and his own experiences
Thank you for such a detailed review! Was planning to buy it
Thank you!

Books are fundamental.
Great review, thanks. Certainly a must have book like the books of Heiko Bleher, Oliver Lucanus and Ivan Mikolji.
Thank you! Bleher's books are a bit of a hit and miss

@@tropicalfishhubhis Biotope book is really good. So much detail to setup Biotope tanks
I emailed Oliver when this book was released, but there are no distributors in Australia.

Thanks for this, I couldn't buy this in my country.
The UK distributor claims to ship worldwide, so it is worth checking how much it would be to send to your country

Thank you:) I think you can buy these books in US from Oliver Lucanus's website
