Director's Monitors vs Onboard Monitors vs Computer Monitors
I've used computer monitors and on-camera monitors for shooting these videos, and others, and let me say, director's monitors are pretty helpful. The one I'm using here is the Seetec P133 Pro.

    Really liked the information you provided about the tripod/head real situation usage aspects as well as limitations. However not even mentioning your camera rig's weight was kind of a Newby mistake. Like what do you think is one of the Primary specs of a tripod, its weight load. So you should have said this review is being made with a 7.5 lb. camera rig or whatever the weight actually was. Otherwise there is no context. What if the load had been a 5 lb. for camera rig, which may have provided different results? Who knows we don't know what weight of your camera rig was. Please mention camera rig weight for 100% of your reviews going forward on tripod/head reviews. That says to me your a solid UA-camr to follow and you're giving key information to help the viewer make decisions about the whatever product your reviewing. That's the point right?

    • @itmeremy
      @itmeremy 9 годин тому

      @synaptichorizons I didn't mention the weight of the rig because I've never weighed it. I understand your point about not having actual numbers to go off, but most people who use camera rigs like these would be able to estimate, my rig is all pretty standard gear. Next time I make a video about a tripod I'll try to remember to say how heavy my camera is.

    • @itmeremy
      @itmeremy 2 дні тому

      @TALNCLIPS that entirely depends on what mattebox you get. Some come with a VND kit, other matteboxes that don't have a VND, you'd have to buy solid NDs separately. If you're talking specifically about the Recon, yes the VND comes with it, but as a mattebox, I wouldn't really consider this a particularly useful one

    Apologies for using AI but it rewrote my terrible report and made it readable. **Introduction:** If you've been looking at quick-release systems, especially from brands like Ulanzi or Tilta, you might be interested in SmallRig's latest HawkLock H21 and H38. Initially, I wasn’t thrilled with these, but after giving them a second chance, I found they’ve got some impressive qualities worth highlighting. Here’s a full breakdown of my experience and why I think they’re a standout choice for certain setups. --- **First Impressions:** When I first got my hands on the H21 and H38 HawkLock quick releases, I wasn’t impressed. Right out of the box, they felt stiff and hard to work with. I left them on my desk for a few days, unsure if I even wanted to keep them. But each time I looked at them, I had to admit - the machining quality was incredible. The metalwork and design precision were noticeably better than any other SmallRig gear I’ve used before. --- **Build Quality & Tolerances:** One thing SmallRig nailed with the HawkLock is the build quality. The tolerances are near-perfect, giving the whole system an impressive solidity and premium feel. This is the kind of quality you might expect from high-end camera accessories, not something you find every day. In comparison, other brands like Ulanzi and Tilta, which are solid in their own right, don’t quite hit this level of finish and precision. --- **Learning Curve:** One challenge I initially faced was the release mechanism. The button on the HawkLock requires a bit of pressure to release, and at first, I found it too stiff. But once I got used to pressing it all the way in, everything started to click (literally and figuratively). The plate slides in with a smooth, satisfying feel, almost like it’s guided into place. That stiffness ensures everything stays firmly locked once it’s in, so it’s actually a feature that grows on you. --- **Compatibility Limits:** One drawback worth noting is that the HawkLock system doesn’t fully support a standard male Arca plate on a female HawkLock. There’s just no way to securely lock it in place, which limits compatibility if you’re already heavily invested in Arca plates from other brands. But, if you’re using it as an accessory mount or in setups where you don’t need cross-compatibility, this system shines. --- **Performance for Accessory Mounting:** Where the H21 truly stands out is accessory mounting. I found it to be an excellent choice for mounting smaller items like monitors, microphones, and lights. Once you’re familiar with the locking mechanism, the quick release system makes it easy to swap accessories in and out on the fly, which is a game-changer for fast-paced setups or run-and-gun shoots. --- **Final Thoughts:** The SmallRig HawkLock H21 and H38 may not be the most intuitive out of the box, but if you give them a chance, they offer a level of build quality and precision that’s hard to beat. For setups where you’re focused on quick releases for smaller accessories, they’re a fantastic choice. While the lack of universal Arca compatibility might be a downside for some, if you’re willing to work within their system, these quick releases deliver a level of reliability and ease that stands out. --- **Conclusion:** If you’re in the market for high-quality quick-release systems, I recommend giving SmallRig's H21 and H38 HawkLock a serious look. They might not be perfect for every setup, but for dedicated accessory mounting, they’re some of the best options out there right now.

    I currently shoot for brands. Mostly personal branding, car delivery and car related shoots. Mostly video production. Past years working with my canon 200d m2 (india). it is doing good, but now i want to upgrade my gear. I need log formats, 4k 60 shootings and a better battery than my 200d xd. i dont think spending L on full frame like fx3 or a7s3 is good. I can do lot with my basic capabilities gear which helps me. I shoot at iso 400-1000 in night times. fx30 has 800 and 2500 native iso which is more than enough. Request u to address my queries. Also I want to know what more is fx30 capable of. Are you able to use the hand turn wheel for zooming instead of the rocker?

    Is there a V-Mount plate that has power distribution that mounts to 15mm rods AND/OR can be mounted onto another V-Mount plate - Like a camera that has a V-Mount on it? Basically, my one camera setup is a mirrorless, and to use that, Id need 15mm rods. The other camera has a V-Mount at the back, but not enough power ports. So, Id like to sandwich this in between the camera and the V-Mount battery to have more power ports.

      @michaelfrymus I know of a few V-mount to V-mount plates that are designed for cameras like the RED V-Raptor from Wooden Camera and IDX, there's probably others. None of the ones I can see from a quick google search also have an easy way to mount it to rods though. But what you could do, is get an unpowered V mount plate for your rods, and then you can attach the double sided one to that. Just means you'll always have 2 V-mount attachments.

    Ironically, the value of having a lot of light for flexibility with shutter speed and getting no grain is almost better for shooting 'night' in day if you can make it convincing in post processing...

      @FiveHourFriends I think for this one I just exposed to the right. Meaning I exposed as bright as possible without clipping the highlights. I made a video about exposing SLOG3 if you want more information. ua-cam.com/video/nRpl2uB27D8/v-deo.html

      @winkeesalami I pretty much exclusively shoot in Cine EI, changing between the 2 bases is the only way to actually change the exposure. Changing the EI within that just shifts the dynamic range up and down, not the actual exposure. But yes, I agree about the sensor

    Not entirely true... if you watch any of the reviews from Christopher Frost's channel, you'll see that full-frame lenses actually tend to struggle on APS-C sensors. APS-C sensors put more demand for image quality on a lens.

    • @itmeremy
      @itmeremy 26 днів тому

      @hunterrutz1412 if you're pixel peeping to such a level, sure, on high MP APSC sensors, there might be less sharpness, but I don't think it would make enough of a difference in enough cases to really be a problem

      @@snipergodakadaxotaz5280 in 4k 120, it crops in 1.5x, which I think makes it a 1:1 readout. I filmed a wedding this weekend and have been training another videographer. The first 2 we did together, we had issues with exposure as well as duplicating our coverage unnecessarily. I had the exact same idea as your first example and I will tell you firsthand it worked flawlessly. We used the Pyro H in our case. The image was crystal clear nearly the entire time even without line of sight, only a few times where it had some visual tearing. We got Hollyland Solidcom SE's for the last wedding and the real time communication is what made it all work. Giving him instant feedback and coaching him through the day was so beneficial and us filming speeches and me being able to see what angle he had and adjust my positioning was incredible. We were able to fix or improve a lot of shots that otherwise would have been mediocre or redundant. My gimbal rig looked pretty cursed having multiple monitors and antennae all over the place, but it actually felt pretty natural after a while. I think the only real drawback was that all the audio on the b-roll has us being like, "Check this out." and "That looks good as hell." and just being big ole dorks to each other over the intercoms, but that's more of an us problem. Another issue was that his A7siii was sending an S-Log3 image to my monitor because his was routing it from the HDMI loopout into an Atomos Shinobi where he converted it into HLG. If he had something like a Ninja V, he could route it from that into the transmitter instead and I'd get a nicely processed image, problem solved. I like to wait a few months to leave reviews because I want to see the longevity of this system, but I'm really falling in love with Hollyland's stuff. Big fan.

  • @RigidPRO

    It really doesn't fix the problem. We've seen breakages even with this attached. It does not stop the flex. We are not posting here to promote our products, but the fact remains that our Top Handle solution prevents the breaks, period! It's a bigger investment, granted. But a small price to pay in my view as a user, before being a maker.

    • @itmeremy
      @itmeremy 29 днів тому

      @RigidPRO I agree that products like yours that attach the handle further back are likely to be more rigid, and they obviously have other benefits such as the weight and power distribution. But this handle extension does stop the flex because it prevents the back and bottom of the handle from moving in relation to each other by connecting them. As purely a handle solution, I think this works phenomenally, and its also still extremely easy to remove the handle since it still only attaches to the camera using the standard screws. Now I obviously haven't tried your products or the Cineback that I mentioned in this video, so I can't say from experience. Also, quick question about your power distribution system. Do you have any plans to add more different ports to power other things? Dtap is great but having a couple of USB-C or DC ports could help a lot. Or even somehow including an internal battery to allow for V mount hot swapping
