You are my favorite me made inspiration channel. Thank you for the work you do and your peaceful authenticity.
Monty Don is my style icon too 😂 matching twill pants and jacket with a thick aran sweater underneath please! Love the pelica vest too!
Love that fabric Lorna! A skirt or dress would both be lovely, but leaning slightly towards a dress as I think those colours look so good with your complexion! Also loving your knitted vest
Thanks Ellie ☺️ I was in two minds, but went for the dress in the end. Though I have been layering it like a skirt. I don't have much in this colour, but I'm really enjoying it!
I vote skirt, I think it would make the fabric take on another facet of its potential !
I was very tempted, but went for a less full wyn dress in the end, and have been layering it like it's a skirt ☺️
I just found your channel. Today I am working on knitting a cardigan and you are my friend in the background. I knit, crochet and quilt. I have made a few clothes. I’m looking forward to getting back into making clothes. Enjoy your videos so much.
Hello ☺️ so glad you are enjoying the videos while you're crafting, that's lovely!
Love the anorak! 🥰 Such a pleasant colour 💛🧡🤎 Would you recommend the patterns from Merchant and Mills? What's included in a pattern, I have never bought one but really like their style:) greetings from Sweden! 🌷
Hello ☺️ I do love their patterns - I find there are always details which make their pieces look more professional. Some are more complicated than others. Their website has more detail about what's included, so I'd look there :) but essentially you can choose between paper copies, or a PDF that you can download and print at home.
A truly lovely podcast lorna I will be making the shawl as soon as you release it I have your calender and I know I shouldn’t but it’s up on my wall already and it is just perfect thankyou x
Hi Judith 😊 I'm looking forward to releasing the shawl! Glad you're excited too. I'm also so pleased you love the calendar. It can definitely go up now if you'd like it to! 🥰 xx
I am in love with your knitted vest idea! Looking forward to seeing it come to reality, great video as always 💛
Thanks so much 🥰
I’ve just come across your video and can’t wait to watch past episodes and check out your designs. We seem to share mutual interests, including a love of Monty (I was lucky to attend his talk in Liverpool recently!). We’ve just acquired some land adjacent to our river with intentions of restoring the land to a healthy pre-overgrazed state, building back hedgerows and planting trees to encourage wildlife. Have fun wassailing your walnut tree 🤎!
How lovely and exciting about your land - that sounds like a wonderful project ☺️ I do love Monty - I bet that talk was interesting. It's lovely to have you here. It's wonderful to meet others with mutual interests 🌿 I hope you enjoy the other videos too!
Hi Lorna a lovely video as usual. So looking forward to hearing the briar shawl kits are ready to buy. It’s beautiful. I’m just getting started on my mitts. They will look great together. I think a wynn v neck would be lovely. And you know how much I love that quilt!
Thank you for this! Is there a good beginner sewing machine you would recommend?
You're welcome! I would go to a shop that sells them, so you can speak to someone and perhaps try them out. I've had both Singers and Janomes which have been good, but sure there are others out there too ☺️
Maybe make the tie dress by sewing therapy? It’s very multipurpose and has 2 necklines as a reversible dress:)
Thank you, I'll have a look at the pattern for next time 😊
You’ll have to knit some Monty inspired red socks for your gardening clothes video! 😅😊
Haha yes, that's a good idea!
Hello! I enjoy your videos and love the vest. I am wanting to make one for myself. I am more of a beginner knitter.
Thank you so much ☺️ I do recommend the vest - there are some slightly trickier things in there like the icord edge and applied icord, but there are lots of videos on UA-cam and Rosa is very helpful! Have fun :)
I vote for the Wyn dress V-neck! Love your calendar! I made two bramble skirts, and now I'm working on a three tiered skirt very similar. I use the Hinterland pocket pattern because it's so big, I love those pockets. Have a great cozy winter.
Thank you Patti! That's so lovely to hear about the Bramble skirts you've made! The three tiered skirt sounds fun too. I'm working on my wyn dress again this morning, nearly there now! I think the v neck looks good ☺️
I think the Wyn dress with the round neck line would be so lovely 💞. I look so forward to your videos, I find them so peaceful and inspiring, thank you🥰
Thanks so much, I'm glad you find them peaceful ☺️ it's one of my favourite parts of the week/ month! 🥰
@ mine too☺️
Hi Lorna, I adore your podcast. That is my favourite colour too- that greeny mustard. It makes me so happy. And it’s a unique colour. I laughed when you said winter gardening. I live in Canada - near the capital Ottawa- where our gardens are usually covered in a meter of snow from December to April. :)
Haha that made me laugh too! Our winters are quite different. That greeny mustard is such a unique colour, and I know what you mean about it making you happy 😊 glad you're enjoying the podcast!
Hello Lorna. Really enjoy your cosy vlogs and seeing your wonderful sewing and knitting makes. I think the Wynn dress would be lovely in your new fabric and still could be layered. I love your art work and will head over to Etsy when I have finished writing this. I think the Walnut tree will appreciate the extra mulch and I don’t think you’re bonkers for doing that….and anyway it’s ok to be a bit bonkers😁. Best wishes to you❤
Thanks so much Janette ☺️ and you're right, it's not bonkers at all really! I'm going to give it a little mulch this weekend and say thank you 😊 xx
Your cabin reminds me of my idea of a Hobbit house Lorna, just delightful!! I do like the look of the Pelica vest, it's given me an idea of what I could plan for some Alpaca I have to spin. I love your idea of giving back to the special Walnut tree! I'm interested in your winter gardening too, that sounds quite inspiring. I've just decided to give up my allotment and replan my garden at home over the winter to grow more next year. A deeper look at clothes for gardening would be interesting too.
Hello Kate ☺️ yes it is quite hobbity in there, maybe that's why we felt drawn to reread it over the holiday :) that's exciting about your garden plans. I do love making plans for the garden at this time of year - it's perfect for dreaming and planning spaces I think!
Make a divided Wind Dress. Separate the skirt from the top. That way you can have the skirt and the “dress”. Love your work and ideas. Just subscribed.
Thank you 😊 making separates is a good idea. I decided to take volume off the skirt to make it feel more everyday :)
Hi Lorna - just enjoyed your video with some knitting and a cup of tea. I try not to make too many plans as my sewing and knitting is restricted by my health. I console myself by knowing that I am not consuming too much, and that I am the ultimate in slow crafting 😂. I love seeing your makes and particularly the practical nature of your wardrobe as my lifestyle is very casual. The Wyn dress would be lovely in that fabric. All the best ❤
Hello ☺️ I'm glad you enjoyed it with some knitting and tea, that sounds perfect. Sorry to hear about your health, though I think your perspective is a good one ☺️ I cut out my wyn dress at the weekend and I'm very excited by it! All the best back to you xx
I also have that vest pattern in my Ravelry favourites - inspired seeing another example! Yours is lovely.
Thank you, I recommend it ☺️
If you want your new fabric to be worn every day, I'd pick a dress pattern that is your absolute favourite to wear then you'll know it will get worn and loved all the time! 💜
That is a very good point! ☺️
Yes, I love the idea of a Wyn dress in that fabric. I think the V-neck version would look lovely for layered over larger shirt collars and turtlenecks.
Yes I decided the same thing in the end and cut out the v neck ☺️ thank you!
Good strategy to put the extra pockets and loops on your dungarees when you can lay the front and back of the leg out flat. That also enables any side pockets that span the seam to be sewn flat. For working at your allotment during the winter, have you considered a cotton flannel lining for your dungarees?
Interesting idea! I wonder if it gets cold enough here for that, but it does sound very cosy! Perhaps flannel would be a good lining option for my cord gardening jacket :)
@@threadandyarn Flannel is good for a jacket lining, but you can't slide sweaters or long-sleeved shirts into sleeves lined in flannel. Jacket sleeves are better lined with something more slippery. Flannel-lined pants are good here in Maryland when the temperature goes below 30 degrees Fahrenheit (-1 Celcius), which happens a lot in January and February.
There are lots of wassails here in Herefordshire, I suppose because of all the orchards, it’s a local tradition 🌳 I certainly would like a gardening themed vlog, I love Monty’s jackets, he lives just down the road from me!
Ah of course Sharon! I forgot he's based there. It's a lovely tradition 😊
Lovely attitude about giving thanks to nature for all she gifts to us. Can people outside of the UK as in Canada sign up to your patreon boxes? Also I have just bought yarn to start the Pelica vest...can't wait. I love yours.
Thank you, nature does give us so much 🥰 yes, I do have an international tier for the gift membership 😊
@@threadandyarn I checked out the international tier but it is all sold out. Do you often open it up again?
Hi Donna, I just opened up a couple more spots ☺️
Hello Lorna, thank you for your lovely cosy podcast. I love how your gardening overalls are coming along!! I too have a very strong connect to the seasons and Mother Nature. Your Walnut tree will be very thankful for gathering up has many of it’s fallen leaves and create a donut shape, away from its trunk, around its root run. 🌿 I love the process of adding back to the ground during the winter in my gardens. Your vest is super!! I’ve knitted the Burgos vest last month which I can recommend 😊 😅 Monty Don fashions my gardening wardrobe too!! I really like the clothes made by the carriage company but they do come with a price tag! Would love to watch a podcast on mending / making your garden clothes! Seeing the shawl again for the knitting retreat is making me very excited for February ❤
Hello Kim ☺️ thanks so much for the lovely idea for the walnut tree - that's not something I'd have thought of! Is the idea to keep things away from blocking the trunk and move out mulch closer to where the roots will be? I am very excited for the retreat and to meet everyone, and to see your shawls come together 🥰 it sounds like we have a lot of interests in common!
@ absolutely Lorna! Keep the leaves away from the trunk🌿🥰 the tree will love you for it! I do feel we have a lot of common interests. I felt a connection with your podcast 😁
Such a lovely video again, as usual. I'm working away (very slowly) on a Mode at Rowan knitted vest, before I get started on the Sheepfold sock kit I gifted myself. I love your Pelica vest. It reminds me a little of the traditional knitted jumpers we used to see people wearing when we lived in Austria. It's definitely being added to my wishlist list!
Hi Helen, that sounds lovely ☺️ I hope you enjoy the socks too! I'm finding mine very cosy in the cooler weather we had recently. I'd definitely recommend the Pelica for a satisfying, very wearable knit ☺️
Love your Pelica Vest, really beautiful. I'm knitting the Terrazzo Neck in similar colours just now. Oh, and the Christmas Caramel - they're so satisfyingly quick to knit. Really love your illustrations too. xx
Sounds like you have some lovely projects on the go ☺️ glad you like the illustrations too, I always forget to share them :) xx
Thank you so much for all the inspiration! ❤ I would love it if you did a video on quilting for beginners, tips and tricks etc! Perhaps there are similar videos out there but I like the way you do things and how you explain them 🤗
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoy them 🥰 that's a nice idea, I might do at some point ☺️
As always I very much enjoyed your video. I spent my evening watching your video while hand stitching the bias on my hand quilted quilt (which you also inspired me to do!). Keep up the good work. And I’m in favor of the round necked Wynn dress, I think it would be lovely.
That's so lovely, and what a cosy evening. I hope you've enjoyed your hand quilted quilt 😊 I think they are extra soft and comfy that way x
hey lorna, thanks for another video. Ooo ive been eyeing the Biscotti! I think it'd be wonderful as a wynn dress. Really random, but recently saw this short documentary on Quilting and it was so beautiful, thought you'd like it: ua-cam.com/video/xH8Y7Mj_JqU/v-deo.html
Hello ☺️ yes it's such a lovely fabric, and I don't really have anything else in this colour. Thanks for the quilting documentary link! I will give it a watch this weekend :) hope everything's well with you!
Lovely video, thank you for sharing. Hope you can record more during December and new years. Out of interest, how did you find the Rosa vest pattern to read, is it easy to understand and follow? I’m interested in making one 🤎🌿
Thank you 😊 yes, I'm hoping to do at least one more this year. I think the vest is fairly simple, but you have to remember to do i cord at all the edges. The only bit that confused me was the applied icord on the shoulders. I find Rosa very helpful and responsive though, if you ever have questions ☺️
So happy to watch a new video today :) I vote for a v-neck wynn dress. That fabric is beautiful and I think the stripes would be so fun in a dress form. Happy to see what you make!
Thank you 😊 I think I am leaning towards a v neck version now! Possibly also with a narrowed skirt so it's quite wearable everyday.
Morning lovely. Well here I. North west UK it's breezy so wearing my knitted folklore hood by you I made last winter and it's perfect. Love how the ood folds down when I remove it To go indoors. Not on Instagram do you have email so I can forward pikies. Much love Di xx loving autumn days and hail and frost and bit of snow. And cosy log burner xx
Morning Di ☺️ that sounds absolutely perfect! I'm so glad the hood is keeping you cosy. I'd love to see some pictures. My email is lorna.threadandyarn@gmail.com ☺️ xx
How fun! I must try this too
I love the lining you chose for the vest
Thank you 😊 I was really pleased with it too
I enjoyed watching this. Your quilt is going to be so good, really like all the colours. I’m hoping to knit a pelica vest soon, yours is lovely.
I'm really enjoying slowly stitching the quilt in the evenings 🕯 it's got such a weight to it! I definitely recommend the Pelica :)
Hi Lorna I love your waxed jacket. Do you ever do commissions as in sewing garments for other people? I am definitely making the vest so thanks for sharing. You are very inspirational and I love your attitude about building a positive future through making things. Thank you
Thanks so much, Donna! That's lovely, and I'm glad you feel that way. I've gotten lots of wear out of the vest already - I definitely recommend it 😊 sorry though, I don't tend to do commissions. I love the idea of it, but makes end up being very expensive for people if I set for an hourly wage for the making - I mostly teach instead 😊
I imagine commissions would be very costly. One day I might be brave and adventurous enough to give it a go. Thanks Lorna
Had anxiety this morning and managed to find some time to sit down and with my knitting and watch your video. It was so calming and relaxing, that by the time the video finished I forgot all about my anxiety ❤
Sorry you were feeling anxious, but I'm so pleased you found some time to do something soothing, and that the video was part of that for you! It always makes me feel less anxious to do something like that 😊 x
Hi Lorna! I've been a viewer for a while but have watched many of your videos particularly in the past few days. I love your energy and makes and am very inspired and comforted by your content which is much needed right now. Love from the US <3
I'm so glad you enjoy them, and that they're bringing you some comfort. I'm so sorry for what's going on in the US. Shocked over here too and thinking of you all. Sending love x
@@threadandyarn it means a lot to have the support of sisters overseas and all around the world. Have to believe that theres hope for women, etc. in the future still. thank you Lorna, you're simply lovely and will be playing in the background today as I enjoy therapeutic sewing and knitting. <3 take care ! x
Hi Lorna 👋 Lovely soothing chat and 'show and tell', thank you. I love your closing message.
Thank you Kate 😊
Thank you for a lovely video, I'm glad the algorithm brought me here. :) The colours of your yarns are absolutely lovely!
Ah welcome! Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 🥰
I loved all your beautiful makes this month Lorna and the colours of yarn you dyed are wonderful -sadly by the time I saw this video your online shop had sold out of everything I wanted to buy!
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video ☺️ I was surprised by how quickly things sold out. Sorry you missed out, I will have to do more sets next time!
Nice fit on your trousers. When I sew buttons on, I start with the knot on the rights side, under the button. I also place a coin as a spacer so that the button is not too tight against the fabric, which tends to fray the thread over time as you button the pants. On the last pass through the holes of the button, I wind the thread around the threads between the button and the fabric to create a shank, then pull the needle through the fabric, keeping the needle on the right side, then tie a knot. That way, the two knots are under the button, rather than being on the inside.
Love the dresses. I wore dresses so much of my life, but don't have the occasion to wear them as much now. Your wedding dress is lovely. I think the triangle construction is what gave it the bias drape that is so lovely.
Thank you 😊
Thank you
🥰
J Stern Designs has a youtube channel that explains the ways to get certain results when sewing pants (eliminating bagginess, increasing crotch depth, etc.) I have learned from them, even though I've been sewing for over 60 years.
Thank you, I'll have a look 😊
Thank you for another lovely video✨️ You are so calming and lovely to listen to😊 And i love all the colors you are using😍
Thank you, Monica! Glad you like them 🥰
