Sewing patterns for wedding guest outfits! My makes for summer occasions
Thanks for the tutorial! Just made mine this afternoon/evening in a black & white gingham fabric from my stash. Had to be creative with my cuts to get the lengths I needed but it all worked out. Already planning to make a second!
Awesome! I'm so glad it worked out and you're pleased with it (and making a second!) Thanks for letting me know 🥰
Hello! Thanks for this. Really inspiring. I'm about to make the Peg trousers and trying to decide whether to lengthen them... You said you shortened yours. How much by, and how tall are you? I'm 5'9" and suspect they are going to be a bit too short - I like cropped but not too cropped! Thanks so much.
33:37 hey lorna, have you tried overlocking the round edges of the pockets separately, before attaching them to the skirt? I tried this today to see whether it works, and it looks pretty neat actually. Slightly more bunch than a single overlock layer but probably wont be noticeable in the skirt
Hey, yes I have, but had totally forgotten that was an option, thanks!
I’ve been looking for a thorough skirt tutorial for my first clothing project, and this was so helpful!! Excited to make something tailored to my body and slow my fashion down!
Brilliant! So glad you're excited to try it. Slowing down your fashion is great motivation, too 😊
hi! I love your vest! I'm not sure if you mention it somewhere in the video, but what kind of wadding would you recommend?
Hey ☺️ thank you! Any light to mid weight wadding would work - I've used a cotton bamboo one for this version. I'm planning one with a thicker wool wadding for winter, but I might size up to allow for the extra thickness. I hope that helps ☺️
@@threadandyarn great, thanks! I was just wondering if I can get by with the leftover pieces that I have or if I should order some :)
Thank you Lorna! This was a wonderful tutorial. I’m grateful for both the tutorial and the pattern! I’ll definitely share my version on IG when I figure out the sewing machine 💗💗
Yay! I would love to see your version 🥰🍂
I'm so happy with the dress you made. Everytime I wear it, I feel protected and full of happiness, because every stich was made with love and attention to detail. Greetings from Switzerland. Mum of 2. P.S. sorry my late response. Life happens sometimes with unexpected goodbyes we have to deal with.
Lovely & cute xx
Thanks!
Definitely one I'm going to make ❤
Yay, hope you enjoy it 😊
Love this video podcast. All the things you do and share. Most of all so nice to listen to your calming voice. So happy to find your channel 🙏hugs from Australia
That is so lovely to hear, thank you so much for saying that 🥰
What would you use for a winter skirt using thus pattern
Hey, I think midweight cotton or linen would work well, especially if you layered over tights or long johns.
Thin wool plaid is very comfy during winter, or thick cotton. I wear skirts and dresses all year round here in Norway (yes, even when it is -20 c outside). I have several skirt and I just put on a cotton skirt underneath those in wool. And then I wear long johns and knee stockings underneath . Never ever going back to jeans during winter, that is horrible cold. A wool skirt is like wrapping in a blanket ❤.
@imse81 thank you I do too. Could I ask about long John's do they do women's? Also you mention stockings. Here we have knee length stocks but I find them too small have you got a Norwegian link to a supplier. Kind regards sam
@@imse81 I completely agree :)
@@samanthaschlegel1863M&S do quite a good range of thermal leggings / long johns - I wear them under skirts in the winter for extra warmth.
Why would I have a printer?
Do you mean for the in seam pocket piece? It's just smaller than an A4/letter paper size, so perhaps you could trace it from a computer screen?
Lovely video Lorna and your excitement is infectious. ☺
Thanks Kate 🥰
I am new to your channel and happy to find you. Thank you for this video and for the time and details in explaining it. I love the patchwork square waistcoat so beautiful. ❤
No problem at all, I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and are enjoying the channel 🥰
Thankyou for the lovely tutorial, I love the pattern. The fabric you used for the 1st skirt could I have the details please. Cheers❤
Hello, glad you liked it :) the blue skirt fabric was Irish linen from Simply Fabrics Brixton - I think it was a limited deadstock fabric, but they may still have some ☺️
Thank you that's great❤
Thanks you for great instructions and a free pattern 😊 This will be my first garment that I will try to sew 🧵
Ah lovely! I hope you enjoy it 🥰
❤ Beautifully done, and explained. Thank you!!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it ☺️

How exciting ❤ can’t wait to give it go 😊 thank you so much
Lovely! Hope you enjoy it 🥰
I am buying the Ora pattern and I can see how beautifully your came out. Love it!❤love
Ooh lovely! I hope you like the pattern, I think it's a great dress ☺️
Lovely skirts. Thank you. Well detail explained video ❤👏
Thank you! Glad you liked the video 🥰
I got really excited when I saw you posted a new video! I love your aesthetic and style
Thanks so much!! ☺️
Thanks so much for sharing 👗
I hope you enjoy it 🥰🧵
Thank you for your tutorial. I hope to have a go at making it. Your technique for doing pockets is so good. I wish I’d known this for a dress I made recently.
Glad you liked the look of the pockets, I hope they work for you on your next project :)
Lorna like Lorna Doone cookies! My favorite cookies as a kid 😅 Its funny because color seasons also fall into trends. Like in the 80s with all the neons. Autumn colors have been turning trendy and its great because people who dont see themselves in those colors get to discover the palette. I believe that since you are a soft autumn you are also compatible with soft summer colors! I would look into playing with those colors as well.
Ah I've never heard of the cookies! I will have to try and find them 😊
Blue and purple
Get both!!
The pattern matching... chefs kiss!
Thank you! I'm pleased with how it worked on this dress 😊
I like this format of video. More pattern analyses, please.
Glad you liked it 😊 I'll be doing one on zero waste gather dresses later this year, hopefully!
I love the moth idea
☺️
Your vest is absolutely gorgeous, I will have to add the pattern to my never ending’to do’ list 😂🧶💕
Thank you! It was a fun pattern to knit - different to anything else I've tried ☺️
I've recently come across your wonderful channel on UA-cam and I absolutely love it! I am a crocheter but you have inspired me to try knitting again and find natural yarns that are okay for sensitive skin. I like listening to your videos as I crochet 🧶🫶🏽
Ah lovely! I'm glad you felt inspired. I'm sure there will be certain fibres and fleece types that are better for sensitive skin - it's something I'd like to learn more about :)
Love the rustic yarn and natural dyes youve used. Your sewing projects are beautiful. Your Tetti's Garden knit is wonderful too A stunning finish. I look forward to more vlogs.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it ☺️ the vest is such a lovely pattern!
I’m really loving your videos! Thank you for sharing all your makes with us! I see and knit as well. You share many different small pattern companies that I am not aware of and I like what I’m seeing. I am aware of some indie designers but as I see, there are many more. Is there one place on the internet to see everything that’s out there? How do you come across all these cute sewing pattern? Thanks!!! 😊
Thanks so much ☺️ I think I find most patterns on Instagram. It can be hard to know what to look for at first, but it's a good place to see what other makers are trying out, and gives you ideas to start researching. There are some pattern companies that I often go back to, but I have mostly just built up a little library over time. I love patterns by Merchant and Mills, Friday Pattern Company, Anna Allen, Paper Theory, and I'm sure lots more :) an app is currently in testing called Threadloop, which aims to be a pattern library where people can share reviews, thoughts and makes- I think it'll be really useful!
New subscriber here! Your makes are beautiful! What needles do you use for your socks?
Thank you! I use See Knits - sometimes the 23cm circulars and sometimes their DPNs ☺️
Hello. Really enjoyed this month’s video. We’re on holiday in France but cut and dried or froze lots of plants before we left for dyeing. Have today found some 100% wool yarn grown in this area and naturally dyed with local plants. Might buy some to make a bifurca vest as yours is so lovely. Best wishes, Laura
I saw your yarn on Instagram yesterday, what a lovely surprise to find that there! I hope you enjoy knitting the bifurca vest if you decide to make it ☺️ x
@@threadandyarn Thank you. I need to swatch when I get home and have a think about choosing the right size. Haven’t done much colour work so hope I’ll manage ok. Yours was lovely enough to make me want to try x
Wow! I turn my back for 2 minutes and your making has taken quantum leaps! I adore your outfits xx
Haha, thank you! It's been nice to work on a could more technical projects 🙂
Lovely to watch Lorna, your enthusiasm for all your crafts is infectious (my favourite things too)
Thanks Kate! It's lovely to connect with people here who have similar interests :)
Such a great video covering all the topics that I love. You are so generous to share your knowledge. Your projects are beautiful and it’s all very inspiring 🌸
Thanks so much for your lovely comment, I do enjoy sharing it all with this community ☺️
Love, love your blogs!! They are so relaxing to watch. I’m currently refurbishing my apartment. So I’m crocheting some bits to add to it. I’m also knitting the Jardiniere socks by Stone Knits xx
Yay I'm so pleased you find them relaxing ☺️ I love that you were working on cosy things for your home while watching. I will have to look up the sock pattern ☺️
Wow, you are so talented and inspiring ❤
Thank you, Yvonne 🥰
I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago, I love the style of what you choose to sew, the wrap skirt is beautiful! Also so impressed by your rucksack. I commented on your last video to say that you'd inspired me to try again with the Hattie dress pattern, well the pieces are all cut out and I've worked my first few seams 😊 Thanks for another inspiring episode ❤
Oh good! I hope the sewing is going well. I'm tempted to make another at some point ☺️ glad you're enjoying the videos!
Love all the handmade items, I bought my sister some yarn from you for her birthday and took my ball winder with me to Devon where she lives so I could wind it up for her - I forgot that part when I ordered it! I’m not a knitter but I love to sew and crochet. I am almost finished a EPP squares quilt, over 1200 squares at my last count and about 6 months work!
Ah lovely, I hope she's enjoying the yarn! Nice work on your quilt, that sounds like write the piece of work! I can see a lovely one in your pic too 😍
I really enjoyed seeing the dyed yarn. The colors are fascinating. Good job!
Thank you! Glad you found it interesting, plants are amazing 😊🌿
Wow, the yarn you dyed looks so great! I fell in love with Jacob fleece when I got some roving to spin, and that led me to getting 3 Jacob and one Shetland sheep this spring! Love to you from Minnesota, USA. Wish I lived anywhere near you so I could come to a retreat!
Ahh lovely! I hope it's going well with them, that's very exciting ☺️
I'm glad I found your channel.
I'm so pleased you're enjoying it 😊
In my opinion you have the best channel on UA-cam.
Wow, that's so lovely of you! You've made my day 🥰
I'm glad I made you happy. Your channel is calming. Greetings from Poland. Agnes
@Ann-bu2lh thank you Agnes, I'm so pleased you enjoy it 🥰
I loved everything you've made in this video. You have my dream skills and expertise level in those skills. How cool to have made so many different things on your own, with dye that you've grown in your allotment. Very inspiring!!! ♥️
Wow thank you, that's very kind to say! It is so liberating making these sorts of thing for yourself. It's mostly lots of practice and experimenting :)
That vest and the colors are PERFECTION!
Thank you! I'm really happy with how it turned out 🧡
