    Try using an ultrasonic cleaner. I have a collection of pen that are very old and all of them have ink stains on the nib. Wanting to give them some TLC, I pull out my small ultrasonic tub and, after leaving them to soak for few hours, I gave them one or tow baths. The water tuned dark blue and the pens came out as new. No soap or detergents needed. Just put them though the process once a month and your pens will last a lifetime.

    When I was high school a bottle of quink lasts me 1 school year and 1 and a half during university. recently I've bought 20 bottles of Quink from a closing pen shop and though I don't write that much anymore since I work as a photographer. I think I've already have a liftime supply of it.

    I’m just getting back to using my fountain pens on a daily basis and I’d like to know where you’re getting them, and the ink, so inexpensively. I bought a Scrievener which I really like to use alongside my old Sheaffer and it was over $80. A bottle of Waterman ink is around $18. Far more expensive than the throwaway ballpoint pens but so much more satisfying and aesthetically pleasing.

    Why do I use fountain pens? Barely know where to even start. So, in no particular order: I grew up with them - school in Germany meant writing with fountain pens from second grade on. Although I don't have particularly pretty handwriting, I came to appreciate it - for some reason, taking notes with a fountain pen seemed to translate into remembering them well later on, even without re-reading. Today, in the age of typing and swiping, all handwriting is cool. It's local patriotism - I come from the region where Pelikan pens are made, so that's the brand I use. Fountain pen writing is recognizable as fountain pen writing - every line has life, depth, shading, flow; and there are no impressions because you write basically effortlessly, without pressure. Even if you aren't an artist, you can feel like one while writing with a fountain pen - you don't need to think about pressure, you can just do as many and as wide and fanciful loops and flourishes as you want. It's like swinging a tiny little paintbrush that does not run dry. You can even use force - apply pressure for thicker lines. Fountain pens are beautiful, and you have all the choice you want - they are playful, elegant, distinguished, imposing, light, heavy, colorful, metal, plastic, resin, steel, gold, simple, decorated, etc. They require some maintenance now and then, but there is little you cannot solve with some water and a Kleenex. You can't be afraid of the occasional ink stain, but that's no problem if you stick with water-soluble ink, and if you don't, a little ink on your hand is a mark of distinction!

    Tip for capital “F” You really enjoy the lowercase “f”. Why not make a lowercase F and then cross it like a T? (I’ve been experimenting with this myself for a little while, and I’m not sure. I love it, but it is an improvement. )

    Greeting from South Africa. Love your accent! In hard starts i just take out cartridge and dip tip into cartridge opening few seconds. Or dip nib in water few second wipe and good to go. Works every time. Cartridges are sometimes too hard to press. Fpens are so expensive here due to $/R exchange. Regards

    I want to get a fountain pen but i hear it writes wetter than normal ballpoint/gel pen which means it easily can be smear or worst, bleed through the paper which is a huge no for me.

    Appearantly, non stick cooking spray fixes uneven inkflow. (If ink only flows out, if you press hard on the paper. and soaking it in water does not fix it). I'll experiment some more with this.

    First time user. I have a 2 dollar pen with a converter. Similar to the squeeze method, I twisted the converter. Some bubble formed and it refused to move ink.

  • @Tradingmood
    @Tradingmood 2 місяці тому

    If you have a bottle of ink just dip the whole nib into the ink and wipe it off on the edge of the bottle. You may have to repeat depending on how dry it was. I am not a fan of the squeeze or push out ink with the converter. I used to just dip in water to wet the nib but it writes less opaquely for a while as the water works it's way out.

    I look for older Papermate 1.0 ball point pens. They're gray, not black. Harder to find now. Some may not write, even though new in packs. Easy fix. I drop them into a hot cup of my coffee. I wait maybe 20 seconds. That's it. Why do I like these pens? Because you can draw light as a feather with them, or go solid black. Extremely useful for drawing.

    Hands down the most helpful video I have watched in my efforts to improve my handwriting. While the letters I naturally make are almost the diametric opposite of the elegant cursive script I desperately wanted to adopt, they create absolutely no stress and feel completely natural. For the first time since I learned to write almost 50 years ago, I feel like my handwriting is (a) reliable (b) more consistent and (c) much more 'me', which is really what matters. Thank you!

    Interesting. When I was taught to handwrite everyone did this grip with the first 2 fingers round the front of the pen and the thumb at the back, yet someone else said that's only the case for ballpoint pens, but to hold a fountain pen they had the pen between the thumb and first finger.

  • @harmonyln7

    I got a parker vector xl yesterday. So far I find it a nice pen, but going between that and an older narrower nib someone also gave me. Don't know what the older pen is because apparently the writing is too small to read without a magnifying glass. Either way, I like the older pen for its weight and the nib itself is interchangeable. Maybe I should film myself writing with each and see which people think looks better. Being almost blind I can't see my own writing, but it's still fun. Probably sounds totally weird.
