I want to do the same thing but with a concrete garage would u have any tips plz
Love the vids pal
Does the roof have a slope?
It's beautiful. I wish I had known about the exterior oil when we converted our backyard garage here in Canada with cedar. Now it's a dark reddish colour on the South side, and gray on the Eastern side. We put vinyl siding on the other 2 sides, bc they aren't visible to us, just a steep hill, so didn't spend the extra money.
Great stuff!
Hi there, i have a flat roof with asphalt fixed onto ply lid, that's fixed onto the joists, with the 7 inch cavity having 4 inch rockwool in there, with plasterboard fixed on the base of the joists. With it quite cold in there, i am thinking of adding in Actis Hybris Panel Reflective Multifoil Insulation 105mm, that is silver foil honeycomb insulation. With the honeycomb insulation full of holes to breathe, and easy to wedge, is it ok to fit the silver foil insulation with the rockwool. Under the joists, i will be fixing a vapour barrier breathable sheet with all the right sticky tapes, so no heat can leave the lower room into the cavity to create moisture. Basically, is ventilation going to be a concern or not in the cavity with 4 inches of rock wool, and 4 inches of breathable Multifoil Insulation? I appreciate your answers Cheers Michael
Incredible.....thanks for the inspiration
I'm sure you can find awesome woodworking plans on WoodPrix
My husband used these plans from WoodPrix and he's very satisfied.
Legend. Im starting work on my 7x5 garden room next year summer and this series is very good for me. Thank you!
Great video and well done - you’ve made a good job of that.
Very helpful! Is there a way to make the brick layout so that the front facing bricks on the left and right walls face the same direction? E.g. first course has horizontal brick on left wall, but two rotated bricks on the right wall. Is it possible to design this in a way where the walls on each course are symmetrical?
I'm not sure Thomas, I'm not a bricklayer and this was my first attempt where I followed a specific layout. I advise getting some bricks and laying them out dry to see if you can make it work.
Planning permission?
permitted development
I built one and after fifty grand I came to paint it and it was leaking I said to the joiner, it’s leaking mate and his response was Course it’s going to leak, it’s just a big shed
Thats not good, if its done properly there is no way it should leak. Sounds like a crap joiner who had no idea what he was doing
@ agreed, had to resolve and now have one, never go in it but it’s rigged out like Michael Jordan lives in it 😂
El plastico estuvo de más 😱
so the base is ballast? or sand then concrete. I guess 100mm of concrete?
Yeah the sub base is compressed hardcore and the base itself is 100mm concrete
What size nails did you use for attaching the OSB please?
If I remember correctly I believe they were 64mm
Does the roof have no ventilation mate? Looking at doing my own soon so i want it ryt 😊
there is gaps down the back of the soffit and this will allow air to circulate
Thanks so much for your video - we used your design to build to our own custom size. Very clear and we're super pleased with the result. Great job.
Glad it was helpful!
Great job. Will a concrete nail gun help better and faster, to fix the structure to the base? I haven't used one. Just for your thought
Never seen a concrete nail gun, but my initial though is it could damage the base, so I wouldnt personally
WHAT DID IT COST ?
Price is at the end of the video and there is also a link to the full break down of the price in the description
Great video, thank you. Hopefully will be doing this, in the near future 👌
You can do it!
Proper job, great video . Good on ya!
Glad you enjoyed it
I’m wondering how much did you spend 🤔
Total was about £7k
With only the clapboard siding, you need some diagonal bracing or plywood in the corners to stiffen things up, especially at the door opening.
I added noggins and the inside has since been completely boarded with OSB, so its going nowhere
Bro which wood is this
Its british wester red cedar. I had it left over from a garden room I built
Great video series - did you not need to leave a ventilation gap on the floor to avoid damp or does the DPM do enough?
I didnt leave a gap no
This is exactly what I needed, thank you!
Your welcome :)
how did you do the outside corners?
I purchased some corner trim with the cladding. You can watch me do it in the cladding video on the channel
How much roughly does all that start material cost (timbers etc 0:10)
Total cost for the shed build was around £500
Cmon bro 6 years as a carpenter does not mean you are a DIYer. Carpenters pick up lots skills in that time in many areas so no Wonder it was simple for you. Joe average DIYer different story.
It definitely helps having some experience Oly, but the project itself is relatively simple. There is no individual part that is very complex. Plus there were lots of things I had never done like the rubber roof, dry lining, etc. The most difficult bit for someone with no experience is the process and the order jobs need doing in. That’s why I created 17 detailed videos walking through the entire process. This year I’ve had at least half a dozen DIY’ers send me pics of garden rooms they built following my videos and plans
@ think you forget what you know or what skills you have developed. It’s not crazy complex no but if things go wrong you have answers where as DIYer do not. But anyway I appreciate the content not digging you out
I KNOW THE WOOD WILL HAVE PROBABLY BEEN PRESSURE TREATED BUT DO NOT LEAVE IT TOO LONG BEFORE YOU TREAT IT YOURSELF.
I think they were 64mm
What are the measurements of the type of timer you used for the base and frame?
The base and roof were 4x2 (100x50mm roughly) , and the walls were 2x2 (50x50mm roughly). Every length was 2.4 meters long.
Very smart looking indeed, great work. Is phase 2 converting it into a shed-pub? Patrick Dickinson"s UA-cam channel may give you inspiration 😊
haha, well its my brothers shed so that would be up to him
why did you angle cut the floor? also how much did it cost in total?
Hi mate, the angle cut was simply to make use of the space in the yard which is angled. Price can be seen at the end of the video
Really good content and good step by step examples. Just wondered for the sections with insulation in is there any openings for air movement so not to build up damp/condensation. Might already be in the comments but lots to go through. Thanks.
This is a dangerous video! You’ve made me think that I can do this! Lol Btw am I the only one thinking that £7.5k is very expensive and you can buy one of this quality for the same amount?
This has got to be the easiest version I have seen! I bought cedar for my build, got Home Depot to make the cuts for free so didn’t even have to so that! I didn’t use as thick a board as yours (5/4”) to cut down the cost as cedar was about 2x the price but it seems sturdy enough. Great instructions!! Thanks
Glad it helped!
You both know what you doing. Well done.
Thats kind of you to say. Honestly though, it was a first shed build for both of us.
It looks great. Well done.
Thank you very much!
Good work.... Maybe I missed it but how did you create the fall for the roof? During the front and side panel make-ups or in the joists?
We did it with the side walls. There is a dedicated video to the walls here: ua-cam.com/video/3OPWmGqQedQ/v-deo.html
Thanks for this - how do you measure the arch for the formwork? Is there a specific height?
The site I bought the arched bricks from recommended the size
Good job , that is a much better shed than you would buy in the shops.......
Agreed, its much better for the price
Brilliant work, very inspiring. 👍
Thanks, glad you liked it
Where’s the full video
Great job well done, but I would be worried about the fall on the roof. There is no gap at the rear, for air to flow, and the rain water is being directed down the back, this will result in premature rotting, not to mention your rain water tipping into the neighbours back yard. How about adding guttering, tipping into a waterbutt, or just a downpipe into your yard?
There is fall on the roof and the shed has a gap of about 70mm between the wall and the back. Then the roof overhangs roughly 120mm and water runs off onto the top of the wall. Finally, the property is a gable end so no neighbour to worry about :)
Trump tower under base for mice?
???
@@thediyfix sorry. That wasn’t clear at all🙄. I Got a shed where mice nest under. Are you doing anything to stop this happening?
Good effort. Any guttering added ?
No gutterng
Nice job dudes 👍
Thanks 👍
