    It's beautiful. I wish I had known about the exterior oil when we converted our backyard garage here in Canada with cedar. Now it's a dark reddish colour on the South side, and gray on the Eastern side. We put vinyl siding on the other 2 sides, bc they aren't visible to us, just a steep hill, so didn't spend the extra money.

    Hi there, i have a flat roof with asphalt fixed onto ply lid, that's fixed onto the joists, with the 7 inch cavity having 4 inch rockwool in there, with plasterboard fixed on the base of the joists. With it quite cold in there, i am thinking of adding in Actis Hybris Panel Reflective Multifoil Insulation 105mm, that is silver foil honeycomb insulation. With the honeycomb insulation full of holes to breathe, and easy to wedge, is it ok to fit the silver foil insulation with the rockwool. Under the joists, i will be fixing a vapour barrier breathable sheet with all the right sticky tapes, so no heat can leave the lower room into the cavity to create moisture. Basically, is ventilation going to be a concern or not in the cavity with 4 inches of rock wool, and 4 inches of breathable Multifoil Insulation? I appreciate your answers Cheers Michael

    Very helpful! Is there a way to make the brick layout so that the front facing bricks on the left and right walls face the same direction? E.g. first course has horizontal brick on left wall, but two rotated bricks on the right wall. Is it possible to design this in a way where the walls on each course are symmetrical?

    • @thediyfix
      @thediyfix 9 днів тому

      I'm not sure Thomas, I'm not a bricklayer and this was my first attempt where I followed a specific layout. I advise getting some bricks and laying them out dry to see if you can make it work.

    Cmon bro 6 years as a carpenter does not mean you are a DIYer. Carpenters pick up lots skills in that time in many areas so no Wonder it was simple for you. Joe average DIYer different story.

    • @thediyfix
      @thediyfix 26 днів тому

      It definitely helps having some experience Oly, but the project itself is relatively simple. There is no individual part that is very complex. Plus there were lots of things I had never done like the rubber roof, dry lining, etc. The most difficult bit for someone with no experience is the process and the order jobs need doing in. That’s why I created 17 detailed videos walking through the entire process. This year I’ve had at least half a dozen DIY’ers send me pics of garden rooms they built following my videos and plans

    • @olyjfitness
      @olyjfitness 26 днів тому

      @ think you forget what you know or what skills you have developed. It’s not crazy complex no but if things go wrong you have answers where as DIYer do not. But anyway I appreciate the content not digging you out

    This has got to be the easiest version I have seen! I bought cedar for my build, got Home Depot to make the cuts for free so didn’t even have to so that! I didn’t use as thick a board as yours (5/4”) to cut down the cost as cedar was about 2x the price but it seems sturdy enough. Great instructions!! Thanks

    Great job well done, but I would be worried about the fall on the roof. There is no gap at the rear, for air to flow, and the rain water is being directed down the back, this will result in premature rotting, not to mention your rain water tipping into the neighbours back yard. How about adding guttering, tipping into a waterbutt, or just a downpipe into your yard?

    • @thediyfix
      @thediyfix Місяць тому

      There is fall on the roof and the shed has a gap of about 70mm between the wall and the back. Then the roof overhangs roughly 120mm and water runs off onto the top of the wall. Finally, the property is a gable end so no neighbour to worry about :)
