Hi Ray, it’s fine. It could be argued that skimming the walls would be slightly better, but it’s not a huge difference. I certainly wouldn’t say the walls are weak without plaster. If you go to the US or Australia all they do is drywall

My first instinct would probably build an internal stud wall and a suspended ceiling then insulate and board.
whats the durability like without a skim? plasterboard is very prone to denting and very weak without a skim of plaster
