    Love this video! It inspired me to get one myself. You probably already figured this out...but...I just learned something about loading up the tapes. So, the camera's tape holder (the part that you slide the tape into) needs to be pushed in first before the external tape door is shut. If you put the tape in the holder and close the external tape door, the camera doesn't load the tape. It's a quirk, but I also found a free tape inside my camera...so bonus!

    Dave, I have recently bought a Sharp Camcorder model VL-E630U and can not for the life of me find where to plug a power cord into it. Do you know where to plug a power cord in?

    • @davesretrovideolab2709
      @davesretrovideolab2709 4 дні тому

      Hey Jason, There is cable with a battery like block which should be inserted into your viewcam’s battery compartment. It’s part number: QCNW-1338TA00. That dc cable plugs into the viewcams battery charger / power supply. I have a bad feeling you don’t have the dc cable??

    • @davesretrovideolab2709
      @davesretrovideolab2709 4 дні тому

      Oh, and one other note. The battery compartment is in the right grip where the camera is located. It’s at the bottom underneath the handle.

    Thanks for showing this! One thing that would concern me with this is Quality Degradation. Editing it together creates a 2nd Generation Copy, the Recorder gets it's signal via Composite I guess? Being an analogue copy will definitely lead to quality losses. Not to mention that VHS isn't that great to begin with, if one had discarded or overwritten the original tapes back in the day, they'd only have a worse copy on hand to digitize nowadays. Nowadays with vhsdecode you can make literally perfect copies of the tapes condition, but if your source tape is mediocre to begin with because it's like the second or third generation copy, there's not you can fix there.

      @davesretrovideolab2709 12 днів тому

      I think everyone is so used to seeing 4k footage with HDR that it’s hard to fathom video looking so mediocre. But, that’s how someone back in 1985 would’ve edited their footage composite video cables and all.

      @@davesretrovideolab2709 Yeah definitely, without professional gear it would've been impossible to truly edit tape recordings losslessly. I'm just saying, we give in great times today where Storage is cheap and we can capture the Raw RF Signals of a VHS Tape to make true Backups. Same with DVDs, it's easy to store the original DVD MPEG2 Files as Remuxes, Storage is plenty cheap. It's just a shame that if you were editing videos like this back then and discarded the original raw tape, you'd be sitting here today with an inferior copy quality-wise. And that's a real shame! Digital Video Editing is definitely a real luxury.

    Hello Dave, great video! Would I be right in thinking that the AC adapter for this perticular model would be the JVC AC POWER ADAPTER AA-V12 ?? As I am trying desperately to source one as I've just purchased this model myself! Also, would this charge the battery's? Tia!

    One of these CineAltas is one of those things I’d buy if I weren’t into the time and money suck that is already high end audio, “just to have it” because of how cool it is and what it represents to the industry. I’m sure someone pointed this out on the livestream comments also but that display (camera side) is a VFD (*possibly OLED*) but definitely not an LCD. The VTR controller has an LCD. Which is amusing because when I saw the “VF Display” button I thought it was a toggle to turn that camera display on and off 😅. Then I remembered “VF” in camera nomenclature is more likely referring to the viewfinder, of course.

    Man, it makes me so sad and almost upset to see such low views on these beautifully produced video segments you obviously put a lot of work into. Btw, I once owned a VL-DH5000U (I think that was the model, typing this as the video plays so if you’ve got that one I haven’t seen it yet). Fun camera. Edit: just saw you do in fact have it lol.

Driver, talent, camera, tech/audio operators and the back was all equipment. Alot of times back then we had to use coax drops to go live versus sat- link. Awesome memories. Smashing vintage electronics makes me absolutely sick. Why would people ever do such idiotic things, especially considering the majority of viewers are probably collectors and watching videos to see things fixed, saved, and/or used. I, myself, just found one of these at a thrift and was super excited to get it and search videos on people using them. Seeing someone turn around and smash something with an amazing amount of good parts, pr even an AWESOME display or prop piece if nothing else, makes me absolutely sick. I would have LOVED to run across a parts machine to fix mine up. I guarantee it upsets many more viewers than it attracts, to do stuff like that. Offering stuff like that up to subscribers or something, from time to time, would gain views, likes, and comments instead of lose them. I thought I had found a fun channel...but i cant risk warching that level of stupidity again on a piece worth a LOT as parts to someone.... so sad and pointless.....

    • @davesretrovideolab2709
      @davesretrovideolab2709 21 день тому

      Hey Jason, I understand your concern, and yes the internet was not happy about it. Therefore, we retired The Crusher shortly afterwards. Surprisingly enough we only lost 8 subscribers when this episode was uploaded a few years back and have had a steady increase in subscriber-ship since so no need to worry.

    This was an incredible show! And I mean show. This was a very entertaining 14 minutes. I have to hand to you for your research. Sharp put out so many of these things it got confusing and convoluted. Many of the early miniDV adopters had the sd-20. You’d see them at soccer games and the like. People had all kinds of contraptions for sun screens so could see the monitor. Excellent video. Thank you
