Arnis Rising HFS
Australia
Приєднався 13 вер 2018
The evolution of personal growth within myself as I recover from Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Arnis Rising HFS is my evolution of personal knowledge and body wisdom over the last 33 years of Martial Arts exploration which started with Wado Ryu Karate at the age of 10.
When I began my journey into arnis, I was a broken 35 year old man.
I reached out and was invited to try my first training session by a quiet soft spoken man who has guided me in my foundation in arnis.
This man became my mentor and helped in my growth within the martial arts and as a person. After 7 years I was graded to instructor level Lakan Guro at MET-FMA HFS with my instructors blessing.
I owe my life to arnis and martial arts in general and it saved me from a path of self destruction at the height of my most damaging time while dealing with CPTSD.
I am a martial arts practitioner for life and currently share my tool kit at Hoju Martial Arts Center, 339 Wellington Street, Launcenston, Tasmania.

Grace Assesment December 2024
This is a small clip of one of the senior instructors at Hoju Martial Arts who has been working with me while I teeach my own system within the club and we did a demo to showcase her competency in some of the things I teach at the club.
I am proud to grade Grace to Advanced Level 1 under my system within the Hoju school, it is a well deserved levelling up and my first female student to complete this level of training under the Arnis Rising HFS system.
Taking falls is worth it when I see my students get it.

Yesterday I did video of myself going through the first 4 of the Pinan kata I was taught in Wado Ryu Karate. It has been around 28 years since studying Karate as a young kid in a formal setting at a dedicated Dojo. However, I have kept training my kata because it helps my limited...

I've broken it down for the Taekwondo students in 8 sections to be done as step exercises so it fits in with what they already know. Do it slow and steady and get each movement right then we can speed it up later. There is also the base kata from Wado Ryu Karate - Pinan Nidan which this form is build upon at the...

I took jijitsu from Wally j and min Leon used to hang out together couple of great guys. Mr. J was fiercely. Fiercely loyal
Is this stuff pressure tested
Yeah, Wally Jay used to fight in tournaments, as did his students.
All of this stuff was pressure tested at one point. Do you think it would still be taught if it wasn’t legit? MMA isn’t the gatekeeper of martial arts and it mostly certainly isn’t self defence. Sport and self defence are not the same thing.
Great techniques. Love Small Circle Jujitsu!
Pointless martial art
Now, I don''t normally entertain these kinds of ignorant comments on videos I have shared but I'm going to make an exception on this one. I'd love it if you could share your resume in martial arts and use of it in real situations then sir and while you are at it post some videos of yourself up on youtube for the world to see doing your flavour of martial arts. Jujitsu, Aikido, Judo, BJJ it all started with Jujitsu all the rest came from the mother art which is actually quite extensive, you have seen one demonstration video and my guess is you saw only a small fraction of this video and decided to call it a pointless martial art, and you are entitled to your opinion. I've worked the doors of some pretty rough areas, I've used this stuff quite a bit as a bouncer. I know from years of experience and hundreds of altercations in my career that this stuff is legit. I have 36 years experience in real world fighting and martial arts and I've been around some of the best at their game that go unrecognised because they're not professional competitive fighters, they're the real deal guys who work with violence for a living and I count myself lucky to have walked among them at different times in my own career. I'm going to assume that you are a keyboard warrior that doesnt truly understand violence and human psychology and has no idea of how and when this stuff is actually applied in real live situations. Enjoy your trolling sir. I wish you well in your search for your truth.
@@ArnisRisingHFS there are idiots like this guy all over the internet. They see everything through the mma glasses. Not understanding sport and self defence are not the same things. Look how many people think Bruce Lee wasn’t legit and was just an actor now. It’s ridiculous. Absurd even.

Now that make a lot of sense 👊🏽
That’s fine if someone’s going to grab you. But, what if you get into it with someone who is “boxing” you & he has a closed fist; Then What (do you do) ???
its an all depends scenario. The idea with holds and restraints is to use distraction first and not chase these locks and restraints from the get go. There needs to be an entry before an execution.
@@ArnisRisingHFS Absolutely! The eye rake via Kali works very well. When someone throws a “haymaker” for example Paul Vunak say just eye- rake and they are wide open for anything including small circle ⭕️ joint locks, headbutts , elbows, whatever 😎,
Then you use whatever technique will work.
I have all the volumes of teaching his art. You can see the expertise of this master. He was teaching even after he had the open heart surgery. He died of a stroke in, I believe, Alameda, CA. In the early "70's , Prof. Jay was a strong proponent for Judo. He grazed the cover of Black Belt Illustrated. I just feel the pain who on the receiving end. One f my classmates in Sin Moo Hapkido used the pressure points (16:08) , it hurt. Prof Jay's concept is much clearer than when I learned the Chi na techniques from Jwing Ming at Purdue University. 33: 54 is the one technique (pow wang chingka) that reminded me of Jwing Ming
Thanks for the comment, I enjoy reading of others journeys and stories. I too have learned the hard way with these applications by being my own instructors uke when he was introducing the small circle concept to me through modern arnis applications. I am a fan of Professor Wally Jay's material.
I very much respect both Professor Wally Jay and Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming

Not too many people can say they were a student of Bruce Lee. Almost no one can say they were a teacher of Bruce Lee, but Wally Jay is definitely in that club. I'm not one of those crazy Bruce Lee fans, but he was known to be particular to whom he paid respect, but by all accounts, he very much respected Wally Jay.

No Bruce Lee never fought Wally Jay infact he learnt Jujutsu from the Legendary Jujutsu Professor.
That's what I choose to believe, because whenever Bruce Lee saw something in a particular martial art, and thinks it will benefit him, he'll become interested and befriended the master and learn from him. I think he's a pioneer of that, instead of challenging the master you make friends and learn with them.

So, from what I gather here is the only use of kuzushi in this jujutsu is through pain compliance?

I, personally, didn't get to ever train with him but I have had a good amount of contact with those that have.
@Wyoming88 not really, I have trained with several who are direct students of his, and many who trained with him or have had contact with those that were. However I have had some really good instructors I can't say that I am any good. I will train as long as I am able, whether I get better or worse. Just in me to do so.
@Wyoming88 basics are the foundation and truly that is what is important. I have always said it is better to be really good with a hand full of skills than ok with tons of them.
@Wyoming88 I began with Karate in 1978 and in the 80's started Kali. Late 90's became an mma pro fighter and after I retired I began Aikido. Along with a smattering of other systems along my path I have found the best one is the one you make for yourself. I have jumbled it all into a way that works for me.
@Wyoming88 sounds like you have had a good amount of experience as well. I try to post some stuff on my channel, although I don't have much of anything from the 70's, 80's or early 90's as far as footage goes. I do have some of my mma fights and Aikido stuff up.

In Filipino martial arts there are three or four types of strikes , for instance an arnisador in the ready position , ,his right hand near his right shoulder , now he send in spank to opponent's left neck , then return to the same position again and send in one spank again to the same target, the left neck and making sure the spank is different from the first strike , then return to the same position near the right shoulder and send in again one spank to the same target ,the left neck for the third spank this time As i have said he should change strikes ,, so that the three strikes is different from each other,! Thus he threw different types / styles of striking!, Certainly we will not included the fast and slow movements,it is not amongst the three , If you are a student in arnis endeavor how to learn them ,
Thank you for your feedback sir, I know who you are and I hope others who read this comment get curious and search you out. I am a student of arnis for 7 years here in Australia, so I'm just a baby to the art. However I have a thirst for knowledge so I am always learning. I have picked up a few great insights from your videos on Sinawali. My instructor in arnis Guro Edward Dockrill was a student of GM Dagooc, hence why I have Professor Presas basic disarm video on my channel, it helps the new students who train with me to have as a resource for learning.

This is great...One of my teachers in Sydney was / is Peter Orford...he studied under Ernesto in the early 80's and was my introduction to FMA...I used to watch him fight in the dojo and couldnt believe how effective he was...later he explained that it was modern Arnis
Thank you for the comment. Glad you got something out of the video.
“Dojo” is Japanese, and Ernesto is his brother.
@@nicklubrino2606 and modern arnis contains elements of shotokan genius...I know who Ernesto is genius
@@maccaholmes4854 Filipinos STILL wouldn’t call their school a “dojo”, genius.
@@maccaholmes4854 so, it was in Karate dojo that you first learned FMA? Just because your karate school incorporates FMA into their style of Karate doesn’t mean Filipinos would call their school a dojo? Do you understand the difference? There’s no way Filipinos would call their school a dojo. What’s with the name-calling?
Does anyone know who gave Professor and GM Ernesto Presas their Shotokan Black Belts?
what relevance does that hold to this video, just trying to figure out what the connection is on the question? I personally do not know the answer to your question. You would have to contact their family I am guessing. I do know that a lot of the "old school" Filipino masters and grandmasters studied Japanese and Korean arts when they were young because there was some kind of stigma about their own arts from their own country.
Very nice technique i like it.
