    One of my best vacations we visited my buddy who was an engineer for the Deseret and Western I got to do a ride along on this train. At that time it only had two locomotives what a ride I even got to sit in the drivers seat. We left the mine in the early morning and took it to the power plant where they. Rotated all the cars to dump them then we returned to the mine to reload for the next day. Like I said earlier it was some of the most fun I ever did on a vacation. Sad to say my buddy passed away this past spring and we miss him a little side note I was told that the environmental protesters in Colorado fought to keep the power plant out of the state but Utah said build it here and that is the reason for the train so now the smoke from the power station goes up the stack and drifts over to Colorado…

    Such an interesting railroad. When I saw images of that railroad for the first time, it directly got onto my bucket list. For me as a European it’s interesting to see how somebody who probably isn’t used to make photos of trains powered by overhead wires deal with that photographic “problem”.

    Electric FREIGHT train in the US...That's a new thing I saw this morning. Very good to see that. Is this a line new or what? Here in India we have 93-96% of our HUGE network electrified with double-stack container trains running on separate corridors. We are aiming for 100% electrification. Altough our trains are not as flashy as Europeans or Americans but...yeah the government is putting a lot of money into our railways.

    • @eyezak_m
      @eyezak_m 4 місяці тому

      It's 40 years old. But electric rail has been more so on the decline than a rise of such in recent years when it comes to freight. Shame there isn't a national priority for it as seen in India

    Same sort of railroad was shutdown a couple of years ago on the Navajo Reservation in northern Arizona. That train moved coal from the Black Mesa coal mine to the Navajo Power Station located outside Page, Arizona. The power station provided the electricity for the train. All of it is gone now and at least 500 Navajos are unemployed, this on a reservation where unemployment is roughly 50%.

      @@eyezak_mThere needs to be more done to retain and, where necessary, relocate workforces of all collapsing production facilities. It's all economic evolution, but released workers are usually seen as cost savings, not the recyclable resources they can be. Think of the telephone operators replaced with automatic switches and where we'd be if they were still required. We all move on, but shouldn't leave others behind.
