They're Mamas/Pups..., only together for a short 3 weeks. Mamas come to give birth and fast the entire time, they nurse their young. Then, they mate (sometimes on the island) and go back to sea to eat...am sure they're so hungry! It's heart melting to see the connections they have, after such a short time..., only to leave them on their own- Then, after pups molt, they go to the sea on their own. Such a fascinating window into their amazing lives..., thanks to Explore.❤️🦭

It is frustrating. The cams will go online as soon as it is feasible. Many logistics/planning goes into checking this remote island. Akecheta, altho bloddied, looked strong to me. I'm remaining hopeful he'll be okay and is healing right now. We will wait this out together and get thru it all together. We all love him so much! ❤

Sometimes things appear worse than they actually are. The skin on an eagles face and head is thin when there are even little cuts they bleed a lot because the face and head is a highly vascular area. So praying that the bleeding has stopped and he recovers from the wounds and hopefully the intruder moved on. It’s sad to see 🙈to watch but so much love is being sent to Akecheta, I have to believe and think positive ❤️❤️💪🏽💪🏽🪽👼

He did a rouse, chortle to thunder,and can fly. Just he needed rest to recover. Good job defending chet. God speed for healing you wounds.

Darlene I'm glad you said it, I was wanting to but didn't want to worry folks or accidentally not follow guidelines. The reality is that, perhaps a slow fade and very much visible to so many in this eagle community. Also natural predation would occur, nothing anyone wants to see. Conservationists are prepared and know the drill, most of us do not. The wildlife rescue of an eagle must meet super rigid rules, and unless it's due to human interference, nature must take its natural course. Also, a rehab has only so much time by Federal law to return this majestic creature to the wild, and only if it could survive. Frequently the chance of survival by natural means v. Fed rules is better. Let's pray for the challenge Thunder is going to have being a single parent in the event this occurs. We all know it takes 2 eagle parents to go from clutch to fledge. Those horrible ravens have been problems for this breeding pair. So my hope is for Chet, but the very possibility of Thunder having intrusion and raven issues should she be alone. 😢 brooding, hunting feeding....protecting!

There is no human intervention for something like this. It is the wild and fights like this happen. I know its hard, especially with cams down, not to worry. But, I really hope Akecheta is okay. Institute for Wildlife Studies restored the Bald Eagle to the Channel Islands and have monitored them for years. They've done a tremendous job, but no longer have as many staff to monitor, now with Eagle population thriving. Thanks for your continued patience and care for Akecheta and the Eagles. You are definitely amongst a big group of fellow peeps who feel the same.

I know its so tough. It is definitely a test of patience. Hopefully if we stick together and stay positive, we will find out soon and really really hope our Akecheta is okay. I will update if/when we get any word!

Oh my buddy ole pal! Me too 😭We've seen our young one, grow into the best partner and dad! I'm devastated! But, the way he handled the Ravens, his flying and his head held high while resting, ALL give me hope. #akechetastrong

Cameras are offline due to tech issues.. They went down early morn on Jan 20th. No one knows how he is. I know we're all hoping he's okay. They won't be able to check the cameras til next week..He is so loved by many. ❤🦅

I am feeling this with you as well! We have become so close to these beautiful creatures and it is so heartbreaking knowing that Chet is out there and we don't know his condition. Big hugs going out to you.

No. They are down prolly due to high winds. Until the equip is checked, its hard to know for sure. They are in a remote location and there's lots of logistics to get out there to check. They will resolve as soon as possible, that I know for sure! The cams at West End go down quite a bit, for several reasons. We've missed egg laying and hatches sometimes too. If/when cams are able to go live, they will, no matter the circumstances. I've seen some heart breaking things on Explore's cams, as well as incredibly uplifting things too! I know the "Visitor" is, by the way he's acting around her. She would be fierce and would fight/chase off, if it were a female. As to the 4th Eagle, am unsure?

As of 1/21/25, the Live Cams have been offline for 2 days..., possibly due to windy conditions. So, we aren't sure of the extent of Akecheta's injuries. We all hope and pray he is healing and intruder has moved on.🦅❤️

Fingers crossed he'll be okay. Hopefully livecams will work for West End tomorrow 1/21/25, to see how he's doing!

This flying was before he was seen perched on the tor (all bloodied and such). But it did give me hope for sure! I've been gone all day today (1/20) and it was highlights before. Hoping he recovers soon!

Susan, I was on the West End chat earlier this afternoon/evening. I agree with your beliefs about why cams are off. I hope we are both wrong.

This is how I have to look at the situation now that since they aren’t talking is, I have to look at it as no news is good news.👍🏻🤞🏼 I honestly don’t like how they aren’t giving us any kind of info or an update except just keep repeating themselves in saying that the cams went down because of the wind. Well I hate to say this but, that is t what we all have been asking for or about.🙄🤨 We are wanting to know the status on Akacheta and they on chat and the organization who runs the cams too are just talking in my option in circles and repeating themselves. I did send the channel an email asking for an update and they didn’t give me an answer. So, let’s hope that no news is good news. No intervention. We will just hope for the best. It would be nearly impossible to try to get close to an adult eagle. If the injuries are not man caused, typically there is no intervention.
