Thank you for another valuable video, Chikako! I have not seen the new Inside Out movie, but I did see the first one when it came out and... yeah... it could make me cry! I think it's interesting how humans often have a hard time talking about or even identifying our emotions. We are clearly both emotional and social as humans, but... we keep a lot of that hidden sometimes. I have done my share of counseling over the years and I remember my counselor saying that people often mis-identify their emotions - like... wayyyyy off. He said it wasn't even uncommon for someone to confuse anxiety with hunger, which I thought was strange at first, but I can see how the physical manifestations could be similar. Anyway... yes... I think it's very important to give ourselves regular emotional maintenance. (I say this while acknowledging that I do not do thins nearly enough - life gets busy... work, or errands, or family or whatever... they seem more important at the time. I can only imagine how tough it might be to be so far away from where you grew up and speaking a different language, not to even speak of cultural differences. You seem to have the right attitude though. Look for the good - enjoy the doughnut, haha! I enjoy looking at your universe painting too - what a fun process! All the best, Chika!

hello pal!! i am excited to be watching your video this morning😊 I definitely can relate to not knowing my feelings, and not being able to put words to it. i figured out a few years ago now that it is because i have autism! and that it is called "alexithymia". i remember learning about this and crying a lot, everything made so much sense to me now!! and i felt sadness for younger me, trying so hard to connect with people & not being able to, or know how to. Now I think it's beautiful that my brain is so different, and i am past the sadness mostly. After that I stopped trying to be like others, and focused on how I want to be🥺💘 art helped me a lot with this recently too. In one if my videos i said that i sometimes will do automatic writing and get my feelings out, without putting words to them! (it's just fake writing basically) So i am still discovering ways to release the emotional pressure😊 i think making a universe is a lovely way as well, and i think the universe changes a little every day, too😊 some stars stay the same, some change and become part of other stars! "she's one of the stars in my universe" im gonna SOB 😭 that is such a sweet thought. I have a lot of animals in my universe, and imagining it that way is so truly beautiful 🥹 THANK YOU so much for sharing your thoughts and art, I look forward to your videos every week💞 i hope you have a lovely time at your new place, and may it feel like home again soon🏠💘🌈 much love!!!!

Hi Nads, I hope you’re having a good Thursday! 😊 It’s really inspiring and admirable to see your journey, and I’m sure you’ve gone through so many phases to get to where you are today. As for me, I have a strong tendency to get distracted and struggle with keeping the same routine, which caused a lot of issues at my previous office job. 😅 A few years ago, I was working on it to help me reconnect with my past self, as I often felt a separation from who I am now. (Now I feel much better about it! ) I’m working on not being too hard on myself and am still on the journey of accepting my nature. 🌱 Recently, I started doing a morning journal. 📖 I’m not sure if it’s helping yet, but it’s been fun to write in my own language. I saw that you enjoyed a picnic the other day-it looked like your heart is at peace and you’re spending quality time. 🌞🌻 Thank you so much, as always! You are so sweet, and I can’t even express how much I appreciate our connection. 💖Lots of love from my little art studio!

@@ogawachikako oh yeah, many phases 😁 i hardly recognise myself from 10 years ago! but same goes for you probably? at least the many phases part of it💚 ohh yeahh, the need for novelty?? i can relate so much! always such a struggle inside me, as part of me craves routine and the other wants everything new all the time!!!! hahahah 😆 i think being alive is pretty funny, it's all so complex and i am just along for the ride. i am glad we both went towards art in life. i think it brings novelty and so much more excitement and enjoyment to living💞 I think we usually have things we want to change, or aim for, don't we? 😊 forever growing as a person. i think it's beautiful you are trying to embrace your nature more🥹 morning journal is a great idea! you could try an evening one if you find it not a good fit, too. either way getting your thoughts on paper in your own language is so GOOD! I hope one day you will find more peace within pal 🤗💘 i really try to get outside and enjoy my time when possible, nature is just the best- especially when my blackberries are in season😇😇🫐 I'm hoping to get lots of walks in after this random week of heatwave in September lol! thank you so much for saying that🥺💘 i really appreciate your words and time and connection too!!! to me this is what the best of life is about🌟💖🫶🎨🖌️ much much love🤗 💘🌟🫶🌻

We love watching Inside Out, but we haven't watched Inside Out 2 yet. We probably will cry a lot too, I am such a crybaby when it comes to watching sad movies. :D A tip to opening stubborn caps like those on old watercolor tubes, or even new jar of pickles.... old MOUSEPAD! :D The bottom of mousepads are usually very grippy, and top are spongey, so if you use the rubbery part on those stubborn caps, you can get a good grip and open them easily. Nice video about emotions. Frankly, I suck at expressing how I feel too. But I have been learning a lot from my wife to express myself better. And similarly, I use art as my escape most the time as well... video game is another good outlet but that's just me consuming instead of producing. Very cool to see your T-shirt designs! :D I used to design T-shirts for friends, school clubs, and other clubs during my university years... those are always fun projects, I miss doing those. I also like this new video style, and I know it takes a lot of effort(from your husband I am assuming), to shoot in multiple angles. I appreciate all the hard work editing the video as well. The painting looks cool, and definitely a beautiful collection to you new home. And we actually got to see a bit of the progress of your studio too. Things are coming together nicely :) Can't wait to see more! Take care Chi-chan and see you next week!

Hi Alex! I’m happy to hear you were safe from the hurricane the other day! I also received a warning last week and stayed in the basement, which was a completely new experience for me, haha. Earthquake warnings were more common when I lived in Japan, though. Anyway, thank you for the tip about using an old mouse pad! Since I had to limit what I brought to my new place, I’m not sure if I can find a similar one, but now I know what works! Wow, you noticed my husband’s help! He’ll be thrilled! I’m still exploring what style works for me on this UA-cam journey, but for this video’s style, I definitely needed more footage and an extra person to help get all the angles, just like you mentioned. hey I didn’t know you play games! My current obsession is Celeste. I died over 3,000 times (the game keeps track!) but finally cleared it, haha. Hope you’re having a lovely Thursday🎵

@@ogawachikako Ah yes! Hurricane dodged us this time round. We got some nice rain and a bit of strong wind but that's about it. I hope those in the direct path who aren't as lucky will have everything returned to normal soon. We don't have basements here in Louisiana...if we do, it'll be underwater :D Yes. I've been telling people to use their old mousepads to open jars since maybe 20 years ago. We have many old mousepads we got for free in the house, they are super helpful. And of course I notice the help you get to make these videos...because I help here and there with my wife's videos too, but usually she does everything herself. I do think another wide-angle camera, or two would help. The pain is usually the editing portion, which I am sure took a lot of time to get everything right before posting, I am way too lazy to edit, that's why I am so inactive on my channel. And yes, I play a lot of shooting games.. I spent thousands of hours on Destiny -_- but I quit that because when I was spending time playing Destiny, I am neglecting my sketchbooks. Now I am just playing Call of Duty, but even that I'll stop doing for the same reason. But there's one game that I will not quit is Monster Hunter :D I played a lot of World and Iceborne, Rise and Sunbreak both on Switch and PS5.... can't wait for Wilds to come out next year. Anyway, I am getting too old for fast-paced games, I probably should start thinking about playing cozy games :p I am not familiar with Celeste, but dying 3000 times sounds excessive. As long as you're having fun I guess hahaha. Thanks and you have a great Thursday as well!

I teach online as my day job, but the topic is different than my writing/cozy content. I really enjoyed these tips. Tip #1 is so important for me when it comes to writing and publishing. I never think I am ready or that my writing good enough. 😅 I still remember my first class too (it was in-person). I told the class this was my first time and I was very nervous, and they absolutely cheered me on. It made my heart warm. 💜 Also there is so much relief in understanding that you don’t have to know everything to teach a class. We just have to know how to find accurate and relevant information to answer students later. Lastly, I am not sure if you are interested, but UA-cam is experimenting with “UA-cam Courses” that you or other freelancers may find useful. If it goes through, then people would be able to make your own paid courses for people to make, if I am understanding it correctly. Great job as always and I hope you have a wonderful day! ✨✨

Wow, I truly believe you're ready, but I completely understand how you feel. My first children's book was quite rough and still isn’t perfect. However, I realized that I’m not some special or genius person who can achieve success (and for me, success means delivering a strong message through good content) with my first publication. Putting yourself out there is scary, especially when people rate your work, but I really admire those who still do it💪 I didn’t know about the UA-cam courses! That’s exciting and hopeful! Is it kind of like a premium membership thing? Thank you so much for letting me know! You’re doing a wonderful job, Evie! and I hope you have a great Thursday!

I love this video! I like to think of teaching as being a guide - not always just giving instructions, but walking along with someone, showing them a way. And being a good teacher is being a good student - so you are so right about how we deal with questions we don't know how to answer - it's an opportunity to figure it out and maybe even involving a student in that discovery process - particularly if it's a creative thing we are studying. Great, encouraging information here! Thank you for charing your insights!

Teaching art or just how to draw and create for fun has been my retirement plan and I don’t think it will change unless something happens to me that drastically changed my life and physical capabilities. It’s very nice to have everything outlined like the way you showed us, despite me putting the plan together in my head and never really wrote it down. I do feel that every teaching session is like a presentation. If you can put everything together in slide decks, then you’ll have the “flow” because it’s already curated. Q&A session in particular is so important because that’s when the teacher and the students are truly interacting with each other, and when teachers can be students and students can be teachers. I still have a long while before I actually retire from my day job, and in the meantime I’ll keep practicing on my art and filling up sketchbooks. I really like the chit-chat session you have in the end of the video, that feels very natural and organic, like I am listening to a friend. Nice video Chi-Chan, and I thought the lighting was great before and great after too, but I am not a videographer so I know little about that :D I did see a bunch of stuff in your background, hopefully your studio is coming together nicely and we’ll get to have a tour around your art studio soon. Take care and see you on your next video.

My environment is improving more and more, and I’ve finally reached a point where I can start a new project. I’m really enjoying my new home having essential furniture, and I even feel a bit lazy to go outside. I have been drawing people hahaha, but I switch around a lot. Sometimes I feel like cute animals, sometimes I feel like drawing faces...I rarely draw just objects around me these days, so maybe I'll do that in the next few pages. Glad to hear that your house is coming together nicely. And having a quieter environment really does help with mental health and inner calmness. Can't wait to see your next project.

I enjoyed your video and I was so in tune with Ken and his view on art and art creation. People are like books, you know? There are different genres and storylines and sequels and… it’s good to read! Get to know people. Discover new stories. I like Ken’s low-pressure, follow the flow sort of attitude. And the “art is for all” spirit. I think this was a great first interview (was it your first??) in part because you two have a history to reflect on, so it added a richness to the discussion. Always enjoy watching your videos, Chika. Thank you always for sharing!

wow Ken's art is AMAZING!! I totally relate to him about botanicals, i love finding the differences between similar flowers and stuff, and it's also easy for me as i am so in love with nature 🍄‍🟫💕 having that texture legend is so handy!! instead of having to reference several of your art pieces, it's all easily laid out 😊i feel really inspired by his negative space use too, just incredible!!! and that feeling of flow state is one of my favourite, i find it very hard to break out of this once in it😂 I didnt do art for most of my life, lots of reasons but a big one was that I couldn't handle any sort of extra criticism in my life, and i didnt have people celebrating me the way i try to as an adult now. does that make sense? trying to simplify a complicated feeling. But once i gave myself permission, and even enjoy, whatever art i was making, it changed my life! and that started a few years ago, then 3 years of unusable arms, now i started again 6 months ago😊 and i dont think i would've gotten here if it wasn't for my arms going bad! silver lining, or just seeing the positive in everything 🤗 Now i encourage everyone that shows interest, and some actually did start making art!! i feel similar now on youtube, but i can reach potentially even more people😮 it boils down to giving them permission yes! im a new fan of ken 💘 thank you for sharing this with us. i made sure to follow on IG even tho i dont really use that platform 💞 much love!

“All my artwork is second hand, they were mine first” I couldn’t agree more, and it’s the quote that I’ll take from this entire session. Back in middle school I told my friends that, art is not just on drawings, it is everywhere. Life itself is an art, all of us are artists ourselves because we all live a very unique life, and creating memorable moments along as we go, we just don’t really capture it like how we would on a piece of paper or any media. I would say this interview is a great success! :) I am glad to know Ken-San through here, and I am now following him on IG. I too do not see myself doing this ‘professionally’ but more like an escape from my day-job where I can explore my tiny little domain without rules or set boundaries. Really good Chi-chan! Really good interview session!

You are right, I am not sure why I was thinking about art that deeply when I was in my teens. I was also part of many clubs, and also the president of a language club. But still, nothing took me away from deep thoughts about art. I think the interview was a great success, and you absolutely should do more. lots of yellow! feedback on an interview 👀 you seem so happy! it would have been cool to see the two extra names on the map but the arrow was good enough the little drawing that goes along with what Ken is talking about is great! being daring enough to actually do it 🤯 both of you seem really relaxed ✨ it would have been cool to see the 3D art held horizontally for a second to see the layers but idk if they would have been visible idk how many of these you had planned but 0 to 12 per year would probably feel fun to watch 🙏 seeing the two heads be in the same place while one half of the screen changes between the things you're talking about seems fine although I have to say this video feels much much longer than normal and idk if that's because of 3 sources of input rather than 2 or just the kind of day I'm having but it just feels longer - maybe the slight lag on the video call? the 3 day rule sounds like a good thing to remember this video was definitely different - idk how I feel about it but I guess I have the seed of an idea haha

This is very nice Chi-chan! :) I have said earlier that I typically don't draw myself. Even if I do, I don't really know which style I would draw. But I do know that I was influenced by Takahashi Rumiko's work, as well as Tsukasa Hojo. It is so much fun looking at all the styles you laid out, and I have to say, Chibi style is my favorite by far, but I tend to not draw that a whole lot and focus too heavily on details. I feel that somehow when I am being asked to draw a character, I will automatically draw Hero style for whatever reason. So I don't really know what style I usually draw, do you think it is okay not to have a particular drawing style? Maybe someday I'll find my own style. Anyway, I am very glad that you finally got some furniture and you seem to have settled in pretty nicely too. See you again next week!

Hey Alex! Yes, I finally got my new tripod and furniture! It's such a game-changer☺️ I see you’ve been spending more time on portraits recently, which is super cool! People like to categorize things to understand them, but I don't think artists need to fit into a category. Your style is your style. I use references from chibi, shonen, or whatever, but I don’t want to put my own artwork into a category because it feels like I’m limiting myself🎨 So yeah, let's keep going on our journey with more and more paper and pen! ^^ By the way, since you mentioned starting photography again, I'm planning to invite my photographer friend over to give me some insights into that world. @@ogawachikako ooooooh tripod sounds very serious now :) for some strange reason I actually enjoy putting furniture together…like IKEA furniture. Maybe because it feels like I was playing with Lego again. I agree that we shouldn’t be too honed in on the definition of our styles. Our style is what makes us happy when we create the piece :) I’ll just draw what I like, and let people decide what that is, because truly, it doesn’t really matter. Yes photography. I’ve been looking at some mirrorless DSLR for beginners and made some shopping list. I used to think that I want to have as much zoom as possible. But now, I like how I observe things around me, especially the sky, not just a single frame of cloud formation, but the whole sky. So chances are I’ll get some ultra-wide angle lenses just for that. Plus those are really good for vlogging and video making too because you wouldn’t need to place your camera too far away or invest in remote microphones. I don’t have all these equipment yet but I know what I’d like to have, so I’ll wait for a good time to get them….like around Black Friday or Cyber Monday :) And yes please do ask your photographer friend a lot of questions. I definitely wouldn’t mind more knowledge in the field. Have a great Sunday Chi-Chan!
