Mastering The Art Of Surf Board Handling: Tips And Tricks For Carrying A Big Board
Welcome back Salty Sisters, to a brand new Women + Waves Top Tips Video. This time we’re back with surfing expert and pro-coach Kitty who is sharing her ultimate tips on the best way to carry a big surfboard.
Carrying a surfboard is no mean feat whether it’s a big foamie or a longboard - but with these expert-recommended solutions, you’ll be strolling down the beach with any size surfboard no problem! 🌊🏄‍♀️✨
Surfboard Tip 1 - Flip It!
Not all women have arms long enough to reach around the width of a board. But don’t worry, if you have this problem try flipping the board over so the fins point out, hold the board under your arm at a thinner section and let the nose tilt down to the ground so you can get a better grip. This makes it a million times easier to sling the board under your arm.
Surfboard Tip 2 - Hip Hold
A Hip Hold is another great option for carrying your surfboard - you balance your board on your hip comfortably and your arm can reach over and hold the thickest part of the board. This is a really useful hold particularly on windy days, as the wind passes aerodynamically under and over the board making it much easier to hold.
Surfboard Tip 3 - Head Hold
Our coach Kitty’s personal favourite, is the classic surfer head hold. Balance the flat of the surfboard on your head, with the fins facing back and the nose down, keeping it in place by holding the rails. This method makes it a lot easier to bomb down sand dunes if you’re pumped to get to the waves!
